  • First three days of our 2023 Camino de Santiago trip from St Jean Pied dePort France to Santiago de Compostella. The first three days were the travel day from JFK in New York, to Madrid, France. Then a commuter plane from Madrid to Pamplona and a taxi to St Jean Pied de Port. Our flight from JFK was delayed three hours after sitting on the plane at the gate for 2 hours. When we arrived in Madrid we missed our flight to Pamplona and had to rebooked. We arrived at the Albergue Beilari in time for the the communal dinner. The host does an incredible job making everyone comfortable and playing games to introduce yourself to the rest of the guests. He serves a vegetarian dinner and breakfast in the morning. In the morning we registered at the Pilgrim office which is directly across the street from Beilari. We hiked from St, Jean to St Michele and stayed the night at Albergue Borda which is a short walk past Orrison. These are the main two places to say if you split the walk over the Pyrenees into two days. After the say at Borda we walked the rest of the way over the Pyrenees and stayed at the Monastery in Roncesvalles.
Day 1 5.33 miles stay at Albergue Borda in St. Michele
Day 2 10.01 miles stay at Monastery in Roncesvalles

Loved the video. I am interested to know how much Christy's pack weighed, in SJPP the road was wet was it also slippery? The route to Roncesvalles was wet was that also slippery? When did you start your Camino, how long did you take to get to SdC? Thanks

Christy’s pack weighed about 13-15 lbs total weight. Lite AF pack, Patagonia merino wool shirts and shorts and rain coat. The first few days were storming including the hike over the Pyrenees.

Good video! What was the Date? it looked very non-crowded. I'm planning my Camino for 2025 and still have to decide on what time of the year works best. Thanks

Interested to know why Orrisson came before Borda, was it a mitsake or did you go to Orrisson for lunch and then back down to Borda? Nice video, reminds me of 2018 when we walked, no Borda then lol

Orrisson for lunch, Borda is past orrisson less than 3 k. Borda is a great place to stay, I didn’t stay at Orrisson so I can’t compare. The host at Borda is super friendly and I like the individual beds with the curtains so you have your own space. Thanks for watching and commenting

Thanks so much. I love your description and video. I am planning on walking in 2 years for my 70’th. I was worried about the walk over the Pyrenees but you helped me realize I could break it up. Please continue to post with lots of details and advice. Safe trip. Buen Camino

We started in SJPD on August 27 and finished in Santiago 10/03. Which includes several rest/sightseeing days along the way. We averaged about 13 miles a day I believe
