Both ideas sound great! Just do what you feel in the moment. If Reese's next 4 books don't excite you test another bookclub closer to your current taste ^^
@@the_eerie_faerie_tales that’s what I kept thinking too! Like, I could see how certain scenes would look and I could hear the music that would be playing at different moments.
I loved First Lie Wins. 6 🌟 I think the author did a really good job with all the details and I thought the banter was very specifically not cringe (for me).
The Most Fun We Ever Had was totally a 5. I was equally emotionally connected to the characters and I didn't want it to end. You gotta give it a 5. I like the ideal of rotating the Celebrity Book Clubs. Great video.
I loved what you said about your relationship with your parents. I feel the same way about mine ❤ I would choose them as my friends if they weren’t my parents
I really liked First Lie Wins, 4 stars for me. But I've seen where a lot of people didn't care for it. The Most Fun was 3 stars for me. We usually agree more on books, LOL.
I think it'd be fun to also read the books still on your TBR that were past picks you haven't gotten to yet! Esp if you don't align with other celeb book club picks after the next fourth months are announced!
Great news! Claire Lombardo has a new book coming out soon! For complex family relationships, I'd recommend The Latecomer. It doesn't have the most likable characters at times, but their stories are so fascinating.
I love the idea of testing out different book clubs. I feel like you about Reese’s book club, and I really wanted to love it. I’m curious to see what you think about the other ones.
I love the idea of sampling different book clubs! That’s such a fun video concept. I’ve also had a not-so-great time with Reese’s picks, but personally love most of Jenna’s!
Great idea! Please try out different book clubs. That sounds fun. I was just looking at book clubs lists trying to find my own fit and had the same struggles.
I love this video idea no matter how you decide to do it in the future! Honestly, just kind of see what she picks for the next four months and decide from there if you would want to read them or if you'd rather switch book clubs. Love your videos
kept putting this idea off and you beat me to it! hahah i'm just going to live vicariously through you at this point 😂 also we agree on so many of the ones you loved! OPE that's my face aw 😇
I like the idea of testing out the different celeb book clubs out there! I have The Most Fun We Ever Had on my TBR and now I can't wait to read it based on your review. I need to move it on on my list :)
I would like to see you give Anita De Monte Laughs Last a second go. I read along with the audio book and it was one of my favorite books all year! But I recommend reading it with the audio!
Oh yay I was so happy to see that you watched DDAY!! We had fun watching here at the Philippines too! 🩷 There's just something special about shared moments with ARMY that makes the watching experience even more intense. Our cinema was filled with almost 600 people and the singing, fanchants, and screaming felt like we were at the actual concert. I was sad that SDL and Dear My Friend were cut out because they were my faves. :( People too of course! But I'm so glad that you had fun!! ALSO I'M SO JEALOUS THAT YOU HAVE THE POPCORN BUCKET! We only had the tumbler here in our country. 😅
I think you'd enjoy GMA book club picks the most in general! i feel like that's a book club that's often overlooked but a lot of great books have been picks for them
Well, for Reese's if you did want to do it, I think you could also do previous years and see if you have anything on your TBR and read it from her book club picks. But seeing other book clubs would also be cool
I’m so glad you did this video, Gabby, because I had the thought I wanted to read all of Reese’s picks this year too but wasn’t super excited about any of the titles so far. So now I know, I will not be! I still think I’ll try First Lie Wins out of curiosity though.
I think testing out others would be really fun, plus you get others taste in what they read. What got me into reading again was years ago Oprah's Book Club. I fould a lot of authors that I enjoyed. 😊💜
I get this feeling i grew up on sci-fi and fantasy and now try thrillers and mystery and i find it kind of boring if things are just to grounded. Im currently reading First Lie Wins and it's interesting but i was confused as to why this person is falling for her mark and i am wondering if the mc believe this guy is going just over look the fact she isn't who she said she is. I dont know if i would be continuing if i was looking for realism i would probably dnf. Its ok to be over top bc these characters aren't real. So it will interesting to see what the author tries to do if this a Bonnie n Clyde story or something else altogether
Hi Gabby, I was not a fan of The Most Fun We Ever Had. First Lie Wins is still on my TBR.😀 Our opinions align for sure on past selections we liked/ didn’t like with exception of Yellow Face.
Trying different celeb book clubs sounds fun! I'd recommend checking out the Richard & Judy book club which has been very popular in the UK for the last 10 years. They usually have a lot of thrillers on their lists too!
There are so many book clubs! I’d love if you tested all different celebrity book clubs and other book clubs too like in the UK I’m pretty sure Costa Coffee have a book club (or a book prize at least) and radio stations have book clubs. Dua Lipa has a book club, Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts and so many others too. Also if you tested out Oprahs book club, going back to older picks and recent picks too? There are so many to choose from but I think this could be a really fun series❤️ also loooads of genre based book clubs too
I had the EXACT same experience with First Lie Wins. I don’t like the spy genre and had no idea it would fall into that. 😅 I might need to read The Most Fun We Ever Had - I’m super close to my parents and always pick spending time with them over anything else, so what you said about it really resonated with me!
maybe you should like do try a chapter for a certain book from a couple of book clubs and then chose one to actually read. and then see how if you end up choosing books from the same book club every time of from different and if having the chose would improve your overall rating
yeah I agree with the testing of different book clubs.. I've not read any books specifically because of Reese but just coincidentally read a few that I liked... Where the Crawdads Sing, Daisy Jones & the Six, and First Lie Wins. Don't think I've read any other Reese picks and have no interest in any of the other ones. Our taste overlaps very little. One of the books I'm reading now is a Jenna pick - The Measure by Nikki Erlick. It's a really thought-provoking one! The topic would make a great book club pick.. asks the big questions about life and how we measure it.. in time/length, or quality?
I feel similar about Reese’s book club. I respect what she’s doing and think she’s great but I read with her book club for around 1 1/2 years and I had more misses and oks than hits so I stopped. Now I just check in every now and then. 😄 I would love to see a mix of these popular book clubs to see what you have to say!
I have read some books in resse book club my favorites are The cactus by Sarah Haywood Seven days in June From scratch memoir The proposal Honey and spice
I am intrigued by The most fun we ever had now. Historical fiction is not my jam at all; however, I'm currently reading the women by Kristin Hannah for my in-person book club and I'm loving it. I like the idea of you doing trying out different celebrity book club picks.
If you live near a Whole Foods, you can make a great charcuterie board out of things from there. My local one even has a little section specifically of charcuterie stuff.
I liked first lie wins but I get if you didn’t. But anyways some recent thrillers I’ve enjoyed is: the gathering (this will be a perfect summerwenie pick) how can I help you is a quick thriller about a library, the reappearance of Rachel price (same author as a good girls guide to murder)
There is a great book club out of England Richard and Judy book club and they pick a wide variety of books. I have really enjoyed most of the ones I have read.
I had the same reaction when I started First Lie Wins. Everyone was going nuts over it so I was like yep that’s for me. I hate spy shit and the ending did not pay off for me to make it worth it.
Just fyi - Anita de Monte isn't slice of life. This is a spoiler but in part two, the main character becomes a bat and haunts the man that killed her. And how much power she has depends on how out in the world her art is. It wasn't my favorite book but it definitely gets more interesting after part 1.
I’m also reading some of Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club books. I would love to be part of your book club! How exactly does it work? Where do I find the current book to be reading? Is it discussed live? Thanks so much for your time!
I feel like I am getting to know you as a reader and when you announced that you were going to read First Lie Wins I thought “ oh, she’s not going to like that one
The neon green on the First Lie Wins dust jacket is so eye catching, sad you didn't like it though. I completely agree that very obvious feminist messages in books make me annoyed or feel so forced. I like when those messages are woven in naturally or at least more subtle. My dad is the only guy in a family of women as well lol. Why am I crying after hearing that quote from The Most Fun WE Ever Had, I feel the most comfortable with my family/my parents too and that just hit home 😭
Never been into celeb book clubs, b/c as i understand, these pub comp pay celebs money to push a book. Like the celeb's side gig. Like if they pay a celeb $30k or $50k & make $1M, thats a good return. Which is why I prefer your book opinions.
I’d be interested to see how you rate Reece’s picks over the full year and if you liked or disliked more of them, if you had any interest in doing that
I remember following a UK celebrity book club a few years ago and it actually put me in a major reading slump. I'm too much of a mood reader I think to follow monthly clubs.
I like the idea of testing out celeb book clubs instead just to showcase a little more variety in what's out there anyways 😊
Yes, I would love to see a video with you testing out other book clubs. I seem to have the most luck with Jenna’s picks.
It physically hurts to hear historical fiction connected to the 90s! 💀😆
Right! 😂😂
Seriously. Might as well reserve my spot at the old folks home. 😅
Oh yes please do
Jenna's book I love her picks
Good morning America book club is totally worth a try
I think it would be really fun to see you read some POC book clubs too! I’m always looking for more POC authors/creators to support
Both ideas sound great! Just do what you feel in the moment. If Reese's next 4 books don't excite you test another bookclub closer to your current taste ^^
Not me with First Lie Wins literally sitting on my lap as I watch this video 😅
😂
It’s so good!! Idk what the heck gabby is talking about lol
I really liked it! would make a great TV series or movie imo.

Definitely like testing other book clubs for comparison 😊

Love this series but also open to other book clubs! I too have had a lot of misses with Reese’s book club but still have fun trying them out. ❤
I would love to see you test out other book clubs as well! That would be fun!
I agree with your patreon’s idea. 💡 It would be interesting to see what you think about their book club picks.

Testing different book club books sounds great!!! Jimmy Fallon always seems to pick cool books I have been curious about reading those books.
I think gabby would find more five stars with jimmys picks. She’s read quite a few of them already
I own all of the books for the last two years picks 😂 it’s all hit and misses. But more hits than not. First Lie Wins was really good for me
Your patreon idea is brilliant! Do it.
