I deeply admire how this scene contrasts perfectly with the scene before where Widmore humiliates Desmond with the whiskey. Mirror moments like this make Season 6 much more palpable and satisfying as it finally reveals the characters' inner desires being fulfilled after such a remarkable journey.
@@kbanghart I would say that Widmore was a dick to Desmond because he knew that Desmond had to enter into the sailing race to get Widmores approval, so that he would crash on the island, where he would save the world. He knew this in the same way his ex partner Eloise Hawking knew these things, because of Faradays journal.
0:43 the painting shows a duality balancer. it's a reference to Jacob and the black smoke. it's also a blatant connection to the balancer that the black smoke takes sawyer to inside that cave in a cliff.
I think this is who Charles was really like, and wanted to be. But in order to fulfill history he has to treat Desmond terribly to get him to the island. Once destiny was fulfilled, Charles was much nicer to Desmond. After all this is Charles’ flash sideways too. Is idealized life.
Sorry for the double comment, but I can't resist: in the end, when old Charlie says "Nothing's too good for you", am I the only one that feels he forgot "except my daughter"? Daddy Widmore is so less protective of Penny in this.

So did widmore actually have a heart, and like Desmond?

that whiskey.. he finally got a taste in another life brother.
Now THAT was a surprise.
You really do have the life son. No family, no commitments... ahh to be free of attachments.
The secret to life right there.
Amen.
I was so happy for old Desmond in this scene I turned my tv off and choose to believe that this is how Lost ended. I never watched another episode.
Lol
that's pretty weird
Your own "Our Mutual Friend".
The outtake on this is the best.
"That's your 100 year old scotch Charles."
"Nah it's just the 60......nothing's too good for you."
1:29 - Amen to this.
I knew things were weird when Widmore said (nothings too good for you.)

"Déjà vu" 🦨 😲
