This is how things get distorted. Johnny Gill never said Stacy or her Mom was racist. He stated in interviews that management personnel told him that her mother didn’t like the fact that he was dark skin. Now she may not have said or thought that but the point is Johnny never accused Stacy of anything and on this interview the host continued to push the false narrative.

    • @janepatton8100

No Sir/ma'am, he's since switched the story and brought clarity for many reasons... perhaps with the potential for a deformation lawsuit, and her outing him, being the two main reasons.
But his original story *(in past interviews that I've seen),* was that he personally witnessed this coming from her family. Not only that, but in the NE story, the narrative was that this was the case as well.
For whatever reason, he's switched it up in his most recent interviews.

      Calm down killa... Lol.
Not so much flip flopping, but he definitely flipped. He's being consistent in his flip, much in the same way he was consistent before the flip.
I definitely think that he believed his assessment of the situation was true. And I'm sure his own insecurities made it easy to believe.
But sometimes ideals that we form when we're young and dumb cement until someone pushes back on that narrative. I think Stacy offered the pushback that caused him to rethink their situation.
In other words, this seems like a misunderstanding and not a blatant lie.

I met New Edition twice, both times Bobby and Ralph were the most down to Earth guys and literally talked with my buddies and me for half an hour. Ron shucked my hand and greeted people whereas Mike, Johnny and Ricky appeared a bit hierarchical; now I’m not saying they owed us anything, especially after a show, however, if my band mates are greeting and meeting I think I would do so as well. Nevertheless, they put on the best performance ever.

Stacy seem to be kind hearted person . There are many colorist in all families . For example my grandmother is light skinned and she has her good ways . But you go to her house , you never see pictures of dark skin people on her living room wall . It's all light or fair skinned people on her wall . The dark skinned people pictures either be in her bedroom or in guest room . I know from experience , I visit her now & then but also keep my distance . Many people see that about her .

People act like colorism only happens to dark skinned people. Everyone on my mother's side of the family are dark skinned and they treated me badly growing up. On my father's side, there is a mix of brown, light, and dark skin. I never had any issues with my dad's side, but my mom's side definitely. It works both ways.

Colorism was very prevalent in the DC/MD area, even up until the 80s and 90s. There's a few families here that were famously all light skinned and shunned and even disowned members who brought home, much less married anyone below a certain shade. You generally didnt meet any dark skinned or even brown Proctors, Swanns, Queens etc until the mid 80s or 90s.

Yes, it is...it is a societal conditioned caste system within the African American culture and American culture as well started in American slavery times. Colorism comes from racism especially in America. The lighter one's skin tone, color of eyes, texture of hair, shape of nose, the more Caucasian like one's features are seen by many as more acceptable in certain segments of American society.

Yep. It was horrible in Louisiana. A lot of our Creole didn't mix with us "darkies" at all to keep that good ol' Creole blood. Even Cajuns were nicer than a lot of Creoles. That was then and waaaay back in the day. Plus, I only heard it by mouth but there was a lot of evidence. I know both Creole and Cajuns and they were all nice to me (though I don't know what they said behind my back if anything at all). But the Creoles I did know told me it was mostly true for their families at least.

Truly, neither one of them, owe us, anything. Yes, colorism, existed/exists. Bobby Brown stated the same about Janet and her father. We all see/know, Janet was with Jermaine, almost a decade. Was willing/waiting, to marry and bare his children.
I am a proud, chocolate woman and I experience colorism, more, than racism, EVERYday.
It's a taboo subject within our communities because we have no 'reason'/'season', for it, we simply, quiet as kept, loathe, ourselves.

Interesting …. In his interview on DJ Vlad I just watched but it just came out around 10-8-2023, he claims that he has taken the position that her and her family never made any such comments or issues but the other folks like I guess industry executives, Henry Allen, etc were making comments… to paraphrase “” one thing I’ve said, that I stand on, even to this day, that she never, her family or mom never said or ….had any indication that he was too dark etc etc “
So maybe he’s trying damage control …
