    I have a familial tremor. I will be 59 in June and have never known what it is like not to have it. They say I got it from my father. He had a similar problem. I have coffee in what I like to call my adult sippy cup. Without it my coffee would be everywhere. I can feel it coming on sometimes. When I am nervous it makes it worse. Sometimes I can get so frustrated and angry about it.
    This video moved my heart, I had my wife watch it with me. I don't have it as bad as he does but it is still very prominent. I remember being chastised by my German Grandmother as to what was wrong with me. My father came to my defense with it explaining that it was not my fault. My father is long gone but I will never forget it. My heart goes out to all who are affected by this. Thank you for this video.

      Hi Timothy, my dad also tried to be supportive of me as a little guy when I was so uncoordinated and shaky. I found that the older Contigo insulated "Twist-Seal" thermos mugs were great. The snap lid ones are easy for me to spill while trying to pop the lid but the Twist-Seal ones were great. I wish they still made them. 🙁

    I have essential tremors and its been 50 years without any help. I wish their was a way that we could share our experiences. I believe I've tried everything I could, from medicines, weighted utensils, booze and creating my own gloves that didn't work. Watching this video, I have the same intensity that Jeff has and its very hard to be independent. I'm certainly tired of being fired from doctors care, because of no cure.

    My E tremors started when I was 28 yrs old. I am now 72, but my tremors aren't as bad as Jeff so far. I keep thinking about Ultrasound for the tremors. I would love to talk with some people who have had it done, and how they feel after 2 years.

    I'm 75 and I was diagnosed with essential tremors about 20 years ago. My children noticed them long before I did. Even today I'm sometimes surprised when someone asks why I'm shaking, I don't even realize I'm doing it. I see in you many of the same difficulties I have, eating, writing, texting. I've learned to cope and adapt, most of the time. Thank you for sharing your story. And I've found that anxiety makes it worse, a sense of humor makes it better.

    My tremor started when I was 12 and I'm 21 now. I whent trough my teenage years with a tremor and it has made me incredibly insecure and socially anxious. I've given up trying to find a cure because all the medicine I tried makes me feel bad. I now started to practice confidence . I hope that if I'm less stressed and nervous it will not be as bad. My biggest fear is that it will become as bad as in this video... this really made me cry

      I am so sorry that you got it in your pre-teens. Kids are so brutal at those ages! Mine showed up in the Third Grade and I can really relate to your insecurities. Growing up being picked last for all of the elementary school play ground activities sure doesn't inspire confidence! :( I am blessed with a sweet wife now that not only helps me by carrying the glass of water to the dinner table, but also is constantly encourages me.

    Believe it or not Jeff, your Essential Tremors are mild, compared to mine. I was on Primidone for 35 years. I started at 50mg a day and it did help. As time went on the tremors got worse and the the dosage increased. Fast forward 25 years and I was taking 1500mg of Primidone a day and the Doctor told me that is the max he can prescribe.
    One day 5 years ago a friend told me about DBS Surgery. My Doctor had never heard of DBS (deep brain stimulation). I called the hospital to talk to somebody about DBS. Four weeks later I was talking to the Doctor that performs the operation. After a series of tests it was determined that I was a good candidate for DBS Surgery. Six weeks later I had the 7 hour surgery. For me, the recovery was extremely painful for about 2 months but having lived - sorry - existed for all those years I would go through it all again - in a heart beat.
    It's been 5 years since my surgery and at least 95% of my tremors are gone. I should say, controlled. No more medications.
    Ask your Doctor about DBS. If he doesn't know contact your Hospital and ask for the Neurology Department. Tell them you want to talk about DBS and Essential Tremors.
    DBS surgery has given me my life back. BTW, I was 61when I had my surgery.
    I wish you well.

      @@victoriaelisabeth866 All I can say is: Would you rather shake or not and have your life back. My recovery was very painful. I have talked to others that had DBS and their recovery was not painful. Every person is different.
      I wouldn't let a few weeks of pain stop me from having my life back. I have been "Shake Free" for over 6 years. For ME, nothing could stop me from having the surgery.
      There are side affects. I have 2 side affects. They don't bother me to much. One is my speech has slurred somewhat over the past 6 years. It was fine for the first 4 years and then it started to slur. The second is: My balance is off a bit. Sometimes I don't feel real steady on my feet. So far it is quite manageable.
      I surely didn't mean to scare anybody regarding the pain. Each and every person has to make up his or her own mind and weigh out the possible side affects.

I used to tell people I make great milk shakes, lol. Once in awhile I would get a "Mr know it all" who thought he knew why I shake. After listening to some BS I would tell him: A lot of people with an extremely high IQ tend to shake. That's not true, but that guy didn't know that, lol.

    • @patrickmurphy3759
      @patrickmurphy3759 4 роки тому +3

      Alcohol is definitely the most effective chemical for relieving essential tremors in my opinion. When I first discovered its ability to take away my tremor in my late teens it was like a miracle, it would make it so I had absolutely no tremor and I could draw, write with perfect penmanship, and play the guitar ect... over the years though it loses its effectiveness. Of course it has its side effects, and besides the physical side effects it can you cause people to look at you in a certain way even if you have just had one drink before going to work or school where you need fine motor skills, even if you try explaining your tremors most people just will not believe you. For me muscle relaxers (Tizanidine) do not help with the Tremor when taking it, and also after taking it for consecutive days my tremors will be worse after, especially if I stop taking the muscle relaxers.

    I have essential tremor and am 61 nearly 62 now (Aug. 2019). It is painful to watch Jeff struggling and he has a great attitude but it's not fun. Mine may not be quite as pronounced but I am considering Deep Brain Stimulation surgery that would help my dominant (left) hand function more normally. It is of course scary to think about surgery but I think my quality of life and emotional life may improve considerably. No meds. seem to help it and I'm not a candidate for Focused Ultrasound which though causes permanent change to the brain while DBS is reversible if necessary. It's all scary stuff to me.

    • @adamstephenson14
      @adamstephenson14 4 роки тому

      So far as I know it is caused be the motor neurones in the brain firing when they shouldn't. At least that is what I understand of the science side. Can say from experience though that it gets WAY worse if I'm stressed, angry or upset. Anti depressants also make it a lot worse too.
