- The Lord of Ford Part 2. If you haven't watched the previous CarPervert video, where I meet serial Escort obsessive Russell Lord (who makes Escorts out of solid silver, gold, diamonds and other precious things) then you should have a look at that first.
In this episode London jeweller Russell Lord invites me to his house to see his full size classic Ford Escorts. He is in the middle of building his 57th mk1/mk2 Escort, which is a wide arched Atlas axle mk1 with a 2.4 Duratec injected twin cam. Russell also owns an early 1968 mk1 Escort Lotus twin cam (complete with solid gold bonnet badge!) and a beautiful unrestored 1300 GT 2-door. He is also deep in the build of a mk2 rally car, which has a Vauxhall red top engine.
For Russell Fords are a religion. He makes objet d'art ornaments of them, then he goes home to the workshop and renovates, fettles and perfects his full size Fords. Here are the tech specs of all three cars:
Green Escort #57
Based on a 1974 1300 base model
6 links 'Watts linkage' suspension
Narrowed Atlas axle with LSD
Bilstein adjustable coilovers
Mazda MX-5 5-speed, shortened propshaft

Motec ECU and wiring
Jenvey fuel injected throttle bodies
8 x 13 gold Minilites
AP racing CP4567 front calipers, vented discs
Sierra Cosworth rear discs
2.4 turn 'quick' steering rack, stock steering column
AP master cylinders, Rix pedalbox
Heater box/matrix modified to clear Duratec engine.
Bought and started in August 2019.
INTERIOR

Bespoke homemade full length centre console.
Home made rear seats and parcel shelf in a period style.
Period heated front seats are homemade and recovered by Aldridge Trimmers.
Home made door trim panels.
Boot area being trimmed to cover fuel tank etc
Raceline gauges
BODYWORK
Steel bodywork, including arches and panels
N.O.S bonnet, doors and bootlid (to be fitted)
Going to be painted Ford Sebring Orange
********
1972 mk1 Escort 1300 GT
Venetian Red
Never restored. Some light repairs over the years
Only modification is an electric washer switch rather than the floor foot button
Owned since 2016
The slowest car, but Russell's favourite car
********
1968 mk1 Escort 'twin cam'
Ermine white
1558cc Lotus DOHC
Rebuilt to produce approx 185bhp
Lotus 881A coded steel wheels
Owned since 2016
Russell is having a mk2 Group 4 Escort rally car being made with a Vauxhall red top 2.0-litre. Ready before summer. There will be another episode of CarPervert with the Lord of Ford when this rally car and #57 are finished. I've been promised a drive.

The Lord is a total legend! What an inspiration of determination and excellence
My most favourite car EVER! 💖
I think I am back for the third time. What a brilliant chap.
What a really lovely bloke. I love how he talks about his wife. A real gent. Great vid
I don't think his wife is happy that he spends all his money on escorts.
@@jordanbuckingham9630 ‘his’ is a keyword though...
Takes me back to my old man's Escort MK1 loading us up every summer weekend in the 70s at 4am to miss the traffic and gets us to Southend from Shepherd's Bush.
Absolutely brilliant!! Watching this video was pure nostalgia having owned a lime Green MK 1 1600GT Mexico all my dreams and aspirations are being fulfilled by this wonderful guy!! Look forward to seeing more of him and his Fords!
This guy..............this guy is just ......... ultimately 🤘🏻awesome🤘🏻...i am 30 years old guy who just adores old classics..(my bad, they ain't old, they are old for ignorants)..in those times peeps used to built with heart and soul that why they are still very very special than today's blings...
Always a biggest fan of you and your work...cheers matey..
I don’t like Fords and I don’t like Vauxhalls, but I love other people’s passions in their favourite marques. I also love garages, and he has the best two. Keep them coming, Pervert, these are the things car lovers want to watch but can’t get on TV.
God I’m jealous . Can’t beat the old escorts .
This bloke is a jack of all trades, master of all.
UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE. What a brilliant guy. WOW. I'm not a Ford guy at all. I'm a Honda guy, all the way. But this.... is just freakingly brilliant! What a guy! Awesome.
Same here, I am a fellow Honda enthusiast and initially thought, hmmm am I gonna watch a guy ramble on for nearly half an hour about old Fords... It was worth every second though, what an absolute Legend 👍
Agreed
Ford Sierra fabulous car. Ibought mine. A brand new#
is the morning
I look forward to the finished car Mr. Lord Of FORD! *Thumbs Up*
Being 50 I have to say, I love seeing these old escorts. Fantastic.
Takes me back to the days when my old man was in the army and life was good. Days gone never to return. England was so different.
My kids just roll their eyes back when I start going on about it 😂
Mate, it was so different back in the 70's though, it was great times for a lot of things, not so much for fashion, but cars were much more fun than they are now. And the 80's Escorts were changing hands for peanuts, i had loads, RS2000's, Mexico's, Sport's, Rally cars, they were all brilliant fun to own.
I always liked the old escorts, but now after watching this video I absolutely love them.
Now that really was a walk down memory lane.
What a star!
Beatiful cars cared for by a proper fella.
Thank you for sharing.
This is just a pleasure to watch. With the madness outside, retreating to enjoy this has been a real treat. I can't get enough. Good work Jonny and team. This should get a commission.
Thank you Geezer. Going to keep trying to deliver a variety of car content.
Absolutely! Fascinating! I have always been a Ford/ Lotus Fan! Will watch every possible edition! A very knowledgeable Man! Thanks you for this very informative! Video! Paul Budd.
My first car was a Mk1 escort,HOB 460N,1750cc,light blue, owned it twice, put a massive smile on my face every time drove..
This guy is a legend I could watch him for hours
I had a newspaper cutting of Timo Mackinen pushing his mk 1 through the water in an early seventies Safari. Probably the car in the pic. All the best with the restoration. Love the mark ones.
The Twin cam mk1 has been my dream car since birth.stunning .I will happily swap everything I own for it.
Attention to detail is mind-blowing 👌
Wow this brings back great memories of my Escort Mexico 1600 I rallied, raced and hill climbed in NZ in the mid 1970’s I think the Mk 1 shape is timeless and still looks good.
In 1990 when I was in 19 I bought a MK1 Mexico, Daytona yellow and in superb condition, avo on the log book and I loved that car ,it was a real crowd puller and even the police used to stop me just to look at it.three months later it was stolen from my driveway and never found.i cried my heart out, I never thought that a car could make me so emotional but OXE 941L IS A NUMBER I'LL NEVER FORGET .a true legend of a car.
What a lovely pair of videos to watch.
What a collection of awesome cars past and present. Did you know the JT Racing sticker is a BMX bike brand from the 80’s?
Stunning stunning stunning!!!!
That white car is magic. 👍
The humbleness and share decency of the man. In a world where "influencer" is a real profession and the "Kardashians" are a thing not a cartoon - this man is pure joy...
bless you
The first car I bought my wife was a Mk 1 1300 automatic! Not very fast but so light and fun to drive kids loved it we called it Bluey - well it was blue! Hole in the floor that the Year 12 Mechanical shop students fixed for me as part of their lessons! So we had two fords at the time my V8 Fairmont 1969 and the little Escort. Muscle car and buzz box!
The skills and talent and knowledge of Alan are just phenomenal, he's an awesome guy with gorgeous cars real and model .
What an amazing guy, i really enjoyed this episode ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I love the "grams" slip up. Only a jeweler would do that ❤️
Wasn't jewellery 😂
They nailed it with the design
It's always a bit dangerous trying to define what a "proper car enthusiast" is, but surely this guy qualifies on every level no matter what. Brilliant couple of videos.
.
I had the same car me and my mate used to race to work at 5o clock in the morning down twisty lanes in n Wales , brings back very happy memories I’m now 71 I’d love that car again. Nice to see someone with his skills looking after them !
WOW, the green Escort was good, the red 1300 GT was better then POW, that white Twin Cam, had a 1971 Mexico in 1984, that was Ermine White with a thin red triple pin stripe, RS alloys, rally seats the same as the ones for the green Escort, a centre console and map reading light and a blueprinted engine, boy was it quick, seeing that lovely Twin Cam brought it all back, what a great video, nice to see Mk 1 Escorts still being rebuilt and ENJOYED.
Pleasure to watch. Great to see his work. Absolute perfection ❤
One of my closest friends and I are huge fans of Mk 1 Escorts. We both spent years in Yorkshire during the early years of the Escort Mk 1. In fact my buddy had a Mk 1 and I had a Lotus Cortina which, believe it or not, I brought to the UK with me from the States. Every time I see an Escort Mk 1 video on You Tube I can't help but watch it and send it to my friend. Johnny, thanks a million for doing this. I only wish we could get those Mk 1s over here. Dick B - Sarasota Florida
I’m so happy for this guy.
In the other vid he said he didn’t consider himself an intelligent person. Maybe not academically, but this guy is plenty smart and extremely capable.
320 horse in that is just AWESOME
You Jonny are a Treasure, Such a Super kick ass Bloke!!!
Give the man a medal he is talented
This guy seems the type you don't feel jealous of. He's got wkd stuff and I'm so glad for him.
There's something about the MK1 & 2 I love. My parents had a white Mk2 estate when I was a kid, happy times.
I think they are the “best” most interesting, enjoyable UA-cam vids I have ever watched, bar none! What an amazing man, such a love and absolute passion for everything in his life and others. What a pleasure that was.
Thank you Rodney, really glad you enjoyed them.
The humbleness and share decency of the man. In a world where "influencer" is a real profession and the "Kardashians" are a thing not a cartoon - this man is pure joy...
Such an amiable chap, who has a wealth of knowledge about all his cars.
well done Jonny, bet he's a friend for life! Utterly gorgeous cars.
So very envious
He needs his own youtube his passion is infectious top watch ladz
This is a cracking shout bud
He probably already doesn't have any time left to sleep, with UA-cam his workday would be 25h/day
@@jacekjagosz The Jonny could start a recurring series ... "What's the Lord doing this week?"
My dads got a mate like him but John is knocking on 80 , his garage is full of escorts and yam rd’s
Even his air cold rd’s look the part ,
He’s got stuff that hasn’t been on the rd ,
He's on Facebook and Instagram already, if that's of interest.
That white MK1 tho😍, the twin cam badge looks all the more spectacular against the white and those wheels, unreal😎
This was incredible. No more words needed.
This man is amazing. Also, it us true that you will always have a soft spot for your first car that you ever own. The one that you bought with your own money. Mine was a total crapbox, but I loved it. A 1988 Hyundai Excel GS. Bright Red, two tone grey and red sports interior, 1.5 litre, 5 speed manual. Had every option. Cost me 8,250 dollars. Bought new. Put 200,000 miles on that car. Only caught fire once. (Electrical) Transmission gear shift fell through the floor twice. (Gear linkage slider failed) After 8 years the paint was a dull orange. The sport bucket seats developed holes from wear and tear. (Foam padding collapsed) Drivers side window broke when rolling it up and it crashed inside the door and shattered. 68 whopping horsepower. 13" "Mag wheels ". But to this day, I loved it, because it was mine.
This guy is delightful!
He is a very intelligent man. His intelligence though is totally focused on what he loves and this makes him a happy man.
Jonny as soon as you can and are allowed again you have to get them out on the road............. just awesome.
21 mins in and I realised I had a big dumb grin on my face. It’s great to see the passion, knowledge and enjoyment that he has.
Thanks so much for doing a follow up to the objets d’art episode.
A great video about a guy and his love ov motorsport and his lucky quarter lite window..he explains with passion .
What a super quality guy. great vid.
My first car was a yellow mk1 escort Mexico, bought from an old boy down my road for the princely sum of £800. Drove it for a year then was posted abroad in the army so sold it for £3.5k. I still miss it. They go for silly money now!
that white mk2 is stunning
What a humble man Russell Lord is. Very talented and perhaps doesn't realise quite how good he is. Reminds me very much of Bernard Newbury, the VW coach trimmer. Nice seeing the old Granada again too Jonny!
Talk about attention to detail.
This guy simply rocks.
‘I just done it for me and Fanny Ann’
I just love it 👍
Love that it’s the 1300 GT that’s the true love ❤️ What a guy!
I used to own a MK I with a 1.3L when I lived in Germany back in the mid to late 70's - blew the engine coming out of Munich one day but a bunch of us replaced the engine, throw-out bearing and clutch while we had it apart... fun little car - drove it to Switzerland and France - miss that vehicle !! Thanks for posting this video - brought back some good memories !!
This man is a perfectionist and it’s brilliant
Another good video, as a Ford fan myself I absolutely love the mk1 escort. Lovely man really takes serious pride in his work.
what a genuine nice fella his own passion makes the video! great work
What a joy to watch and thank you Jonny for taking us along. Also a big thank you to Russell for letting us share his love for his beautiful collection of Fords
Respect Russel you are a top man in your field. May the Ford be with you🤜🤛
The stuff of dreams!!
Wish I had picked up all the cheap MK1s back in the day because by the time the mk3 came out, the mk1s were cheap and plentiful!
I grew up with them, had several in my family, my dad liked the estate version, there was a brand new Mexico next door in that copper bronze colour, sounded beautiful. 👍😎😯
This was brilliant , wicked cars , top bloke. When I was a kid ,Dad owned an electric blue '72 1100L , EHU 207K ; I bloody loved that car ,very fond memories.
So many opportunities to smile, giggle and LOL with this video. I love this guy… in a totally appropriate, blokey way, obviously.
I used to own a Ford Escort 1.3L Saloon mk2 1980V. Enjoyed your video. Lovely to see your mk1&2.
Why I never watched this episode sooner I’ll never know. WOW JUST WOW! Takes me back to my childhood days of when my dad and uncle used to rebuild old Fords. Plus my Grandad (Gordan Mcfarlane) was Ford mad as he worked in the Halewood factory from 1962 to 1989. Our family had so many old Fords over the years it’s hard to list them all. Sadly my Grandad past away just before Christmas at the grand old age of 93. The guy was my hero and loved by everyone. God rest his soul. XXX
Could watch videos like this all day. Half an hour well spent. The Lord is clearly an enthusiast and a gentleman to boot. You have a great job Johnny.
...Ya wiv me!
😀 love it
Nice work geeza
👍🇦🇺
this is so well done
WOW !! Brings back some memories for me. The first car I ever bought was a 1.1l Escort mk 1, twin tone purple that I bought for £250 off a midwife that worked with my Mother at Marston Green Maternity Hospital in Birmingham.
I'd already learned the basics of driving in a BMW 2000 that my Father owned but no longer drove & then I got the Escort so I could get it insured & learn out on the road with Mom, Dad or my Granddad as the qualified passenger.
I bought it in September 1988, passed my test in January 1989 & sold the Escort (after buying a B reg 1984 1.6l Sierra) to my best mate's girlfriend's brother who decided to uprate the alternator (or would it have been a dynamo ??) and almost burnt the car to the ground because the wiring couldn't take the current and so it all melted. I think he started rewiring it but I don't know if he ever finished it or sold the car or scrapped it.
YXC 668 K.
@@moilanen6666 OK .... well I would say it was scrapped at that time then & June 1990 would have been about 6 - 9 months after I sold it to him, can't remember if it was around September or Christmas that I sold it. I know I bought my Sierra in May/June 1989 (B 251 NAY) & wrapped it around a lamppost at 70mph (after the steering lock dropped on so I couldn't turn) sometime towards the end of May 1994.
Crazy money for old Fast Ford's now but chappeau to this chap
This is fast becoming my favourite UA-cam channel, no gimmicks just proper car people with interesting stories. I love it
What a great video for old school Ford lovers.Enjoyed it loads thanks guys
2:43 That 2.4 duratech in that car at that weight is gonna make for a hell of a drivers car along with that box :D
Wow such nice to see the great work he's doing on the escorts and omg a mk1 with heated seats I hope electric windows too that waod be cool and omg that mk2 is mint such classic cars
You know guys, that I'm very far from UK here, not an englishman too, but still I saw and knew the Mexico based on the Escort, this car take a special place in my heart, not in my mind, deep in my heart. A mauritian friend of my dad had a red 1.3 Mk1 with a set of Minilite on it, and another friend from Scotland had a green coupé Bertone in 1750cc on Crommodora rims ! I remember had both of them in 1/43 scale, and my dreams was to get one of those fabulous cars one day, I never get the opportunity and now an Escort in good conditions sounds expensive, the same for the Giulia Coupé and maybe a bit more than an Escort.
But, the real reason why I love the Escort, that it made to be a popular and very simple car first and it became a beast for racing in your fabulous country, I mean the UK the other country of cars and bikes ! You are lucky guys with all those hundreads brands that offered so many models and so many racing derivative from popular models. I have a pronounced taste for populars cars transfigured in road beast or for roadtracking, and the Escort had the special taste and take place in my heart, maybe the other british beast is the Dolomite sprint... But it's another story.
Russell is so good at building these Escorts! Bravo to him and Jonny for introducing us to him and his beautiful cars!
Well done Johnny for bringing this happy moment to us. Don't know how you find them
My dad had a Mk1 RS1600, bought new in 1972. What a car that was, I loved it, the noise and the speed.
Wow, jammy
Jonny I need to introduce you to a friend of mine who is to Lotus Esprit what this chap is to Escorts...
Is it Mick White ex Bell & Colvill
@@colinsharland-brown6257 No! His name is Fabiene Steele. He has built a precise bond white replica esprit and is now working on the red one
What a lovely man.The Ford lotus is special.
Best video I’ve watched in a long time, well done Jonny!
Oh... putting the “pride” into pride & joy.
Bloooooody Hellllllllll!!!!! My good Lord almighty man! You are blessed with practical hands and a mind of genius..... My goodness my goodness, from car to obregé...... My goodness man, ALL my hats off to you!!!
One of the best looking engine bay and 320hp from a NA 2.4 Duratec it’s incredible power.
I had a Mk1 Mexico when I was 16...
Oh boy this brings back memories.
Super little cars and super escort enthusiast keeping them alive. ☺
I could listen to Russell talk about cars all day he's so humble an absolute gentleman thanks Jonny for the great video
There are some crazy collections out there. I knew a guy who had literally a shed full of immaculate MK2 RS1800's and spares. Lots and lots of spares.
I now follow Russell and detail he goes into on things is phenomenal 🙌 👌
When you see and hear the passion, and knowledge this guy has for the humble Ford Escort it’s somehow reassuring, he’s like the antidote to a modern homogenised Ford or any new car come to that.
Honestly it's a beautiful thing when someone can pass on the passion they have just by showing and talking about it.
This was once one of those modern rubbish cars. Just put the marker in time where you started.
That guy is a legend with those cars he owns, lovely mk1 Escorts ..I also bowed at the unveiling of the 68 Twink, real or not it's gorgeous none the less. I own 11 Escorts mk1/2s but none as good as those , including a mk2 my 2nd car bought for $250 in 1995 !!
What a lovely workshop! I'm jealous...
Love to see this project finnished.
Like a doctor's surgery! Not a Ford fan but these were immaculate, really, really lovely!!! What a passion, have to admire that!
