Justin is among the best teachers of pop guitar in the space...these 4 vids on Sultans is EXACTLY what a hard working student of making the guitar cry and sing needs to get some technique rolling-then finding their own way-with Maestro Jason's help. Well done mate!!!
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I've always wanted to know how to play it. Just picked the guitar up again after having fooled around just a little bit over 20 years ago, and am absolutely thrilled at being able to learn this -- would never have been possible without the amazing way Justin breaks it down.
Alan Painter I can see I'm not the only old dude here ha. we had to wear the record needle out working out every detail by ear. To tell you the truth since utube I cant remember how to do that again. but its in us there somewhere. even now you work out chords by ear and they can sound great but theyre in the wrong key and different to the record. even today some british bands are not even as good as they were in the 60s 70s 80s 90s. I cant figure out why they think oasis and arctic monkees and all this shit is good today?
I've always wanted to learn some of the little licks in this song, but never could be bothered to either sit down and tab them myself or get a decent tab and work through them. You have enabled my lazy-ass attitude and I thank you! The guitar George chord lick has gotta be one of my faves, that and the paradiddle drum bit on the timing bell ring. Absolute class tune.
Watching this one for the umpteenth time trying to crack those licks, I have to stop to express the admiration and respect I have for the excellent and conscientious work that you put into your videos. Best regards and thanks, Justin.
Thank You , I've been lucky since i returned to playing after a hiatus of 18 years of concentrating on vocals only..I've been blessed by two very accomplished players who have tutored me since picking the guitar back up..Both are flat pickers though. No right or wrong just a style choice..When it came to this song because of the finger picking neither have attempted to learn it .Thanks to your lessons i'm starting to learn the technique and this song which is a all time favorite.Thank You
I'm from Brazil and I do not understand much English, but.....Dude you teach very well !!!!! The best teaching I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!
That's quite some impressive work making note of all of the nuances. I didn't even hear that fret 6 on strings 1 and 2 on that "riff 2" until you pointed it out. Well done.
Really nice vid, dude! You've put a great deal of work and engagement in that tutorial. Every lick is showed in such a detailed way, that it's seems much easier to play than before watching your vid. Thanks a lot.
I'm just a beginner really glad there's someone giving step by step lessons to make learning interesting, Can you do a video please of mark knoplers "wild theme" and "if this is goodbye"
this is one of the best lessons I´ve seen, and you are a great player also - can´t say the same to 90% of the teachers out there - congrats and many thanks.
Massive lesson, very clear, good tempo of explaining, excellent explanation of strumming. Very detailed! Good job Justin. Other lessons are also very good
Brezimenko: lmfao good catch Justin your seriously an awesome player and dude for doing all these free lessons the pinch harmonic one totally helped me out not to mention every other one that you've made. Keep it up man I really appreciate it.
I'm finally getting the hang of this song, and it got a lot easier when I stopped trying to assign particular fingers to strings and just started doing it ad hoc, whatever felt natural. I saw an interview once where mark said that he would be a guitar teachers nightmare because his thumb and fingers just go all over the place, rather than the traditional thumb on the 3 thickest strings etc. So yeah, dont worry too much about which finger is on which string, just try and do it however it comes to you.
Massive thank you for this, I've managed to get the licks from the first 2 videos down in around 3 hours playing time, which is all down to this video!!
great lessons, thanks. The main riff had been doing my head in for years so i finally decided to figure it out and yours was the best lesson i found anywhere on the net. Really nice licks throughout, not super difficult to play but really tasty and clever use of notes and scales. Well done on figuring them all out. Nice job!!
Thank you Justin. What a great lesson. I have loved this song and now can see in detail how all the marvelous sounds are made and try to make them on my guitar. Just a great blessing.
Impresionante!, Impresionante!, Impresionante!. Ahora si estoy seguro de que acabaré tocando el Sultans Of Swing. No te imaginas lo que se agradece una lección como ésta. Un fuerte abrazo y muchas gracias.
Still very much learning, but I’m making great progress thanks to your videos. Struggling with the barre chords but occasionally I get them to sound right 😂 Can’t thank you enough for these videos 👍🏻👍🏻
get rid of the wife, hibernate during winter and do the "sultans" as a project. then when the bitch complains in summer play it for her . I'm worth it!

By far.. the best teacher on the web!! you also have a very down to earth attitude, cheers mate!!!
loved it great and clear, I wish we had you tube in the 60's
+Alan Painter I fully agree, and the 60's had been somewhat easier guitarwise compared with the time of the 'Sultans...'

and the 70" s and the 80 s
@@briantrend1263 I'm not the biggest fan of the arctic monkeys, but comparing them to Oasis is just insulting haha
@@ljbull33 even 90s... learned this from ear only... very hard, when you are an absolute beginner.Half a year for the first 4 bars.....
Really good instructional video Justin, very clear and simple to understand....good job!
what would we do without people like justin personally i would struggle
