Actually Eric just said "peekaboo" and killed her.
At the same time Dylan shot a girl named Valeen, who said "God help me" Dylan then asked "Do you believe in god?"
    Vlaeen is still alive.
    Still a good song though.

For all those wondering a background on the story, hopefully this will enlighten whomever. Cassie was falsely recognized as proclaiming her faith before her death by a boy named Craig who was also in the library with Cassie during the Columbine shooting. A girl named Val was actually the one who proclaimed her faith and she was shot 9 times with bullets that had shrapnel wood splinters in them. She survived the attack but was till this day never recognized while Cassie was mistaken to be a martyr. The Christian community had believed Cassie's story, as they should have from the media's coverage, and by the time the truth came out, it was already beyond too late. The point of this is to clarify what actually happened and this songs meaning. May all those who died in the Columbine massacre rest in peace

Rainbow Person No. The shooters were actively targeting groups of people, and Christians were one of those groups (jocks and bullies seemed to be targets too)
It seems Cassie was not one of the students individually asked if she did. It seems she was shot after they saw her praying.

".....The song refers to Lacey Mosley's (the lead singer) views on the Columbine High School massacre concerning the supposed incident where Cassie Bernall was asked by one of the gunmen whether she believed in God or not. Upon expressing her belief, she was shot to death. This incident is a common myth surrounding the events of the Columbine High School Massacre. According to some accounts, Cassie was not questioned about her beliefs, but a similar question was put to Valeen Schnurr, who was spared by the gunmen. The investigation team that worked on the Columbine shooting came to similar conclusions regarding the incident and its authenticity..."

In a nutshell the message is that people who die defending what they love and believe in are simply amazing. and imo people need something to believe in it makes us stronger and more understanding. To dedicate your life to something is truly amazing ...but to believe in anything, not blindly but, so wholeheartedly that you choose to die defending it. My my what a powerful feeling to wrap your head around. is there an afterlife? some believe so, some consider it, but then there are those who simply just don't know but by love and hope they just leap with faith. However tragic this story is....if there is an afterlife and a heavenly paradise Cassie is there because she chose to be and because she believed even when the whole God idea is questionable. How she died and why now were questions she probably asked herself/her God she believes in, but in the end she decided it was worth her life to say those last few words...idk about you but when faced with Death to admit that, knowing you will surely die if you do, that's powerful. That's something to think about. If there is no God ... no heaven to go to that she believed in... it's hard to think about, but even then there is still meaning to her death. The point is, people, that even if you are uncertain of something but choose to believe and follow it regardless of anyone or anything else simply because it gives you joy and someone tries to make you question your own belief, tries to break you, should you not stand firm defending it? All the joy it gives you, that thing you love, and something dares you to deny that love. Would you die for it? Is what gives you life worth dying for?

So I'm reading through the comments and seeing alot of people asking "What makes Cassie so special?" "What about all the other victims?". Naming a victim in a song doesn't mean they are better than the rest. There were people going on like that with the whole Amanda Todd story, what made her so special? Nothing. Nothing makes these people more special than the rest. There stories say a specific name of a specific person, but the message goes out equally to all of those who are or were involved. The reason they pick someone to talk about is if they tried talking about all the victims and saying all their names, it'd make it difficult to get the message out. With Amanda Todd, the message was bullying kills, it is bad and needs to stop. With this, its that we who believe in God ain't gonna back down from him even if you got a gun to our heads. It's not saying Cassie is awesome and shes better than everyone else. Hope that clears some things up

I know about her as well , it is sick that children feel as if there is no other thing to do but die because that can't get out of the awful things that are being done to them. I agree but what I think that made Cassie special is that she knew if she said that she believed in God that she would be murdered and yet with that threat she still said yes that she did and she would rather die than say other wise. I am honored because my parents named me after her, it is just wonders what this cruel world will do to people who speak their minds. Just very sad.

Ok, so I didn't keep up to date with the reports, still has nothing to do with it. This song was based off of the first reports, so in terms of what its based off of, it is still accurate, even if its "outdated". And the whole point of the song is saying that people die for there God, and that the one singing will also die for their God. Do you know about the huge ISIS Christian massacre going on right now? Thousands of people are being killed, and very brutally for God, and personally, I would too. Thats what this song states, dedication to our Father, and "Cassie" was being held as a role model for the song, in which case, there is nothing wrong about it, and nothing to complain about. I'm not trolling anyone, just defending the point of this song, and if you have a problem with it, just find something you don't have a problem with, and be happy with that

+Jon Hoskins (Headband) That's why they do it. People that die for something have to really believe in it? There is a book called "Jesus Freak" and has journals of many people who have died for proclaiming their faith in God. I believe God is as real as the air we breathe but don't see.

I know many have died for their faith, and honestly, I respect them, for being in the face of death and standing up for what they believe in. All I'm saying, is that people without faith killing believers of any religion is wrong (this shouldn't have to be said).
Islamic extremist jihadists commit heinous crimes, but by doing so, they are doing it for a reward in death. It's insane, but it happens. If an atheist kills someone, what reward are they hoping for? None. The fact atheists go out there and kill the religious is, I'd say, more messed up than any other jihad or crusade.

    • @HopePhotoG

+Jon Hoskins (Headband) the problem is so many are set on denying God, and they want to prove so badly to themselves that fact, i think deep down a lot of people want to seek God, or believe he is real, but they want so badly to reject that so they do horrible things :( try to mock God or other things.. some people have it set in their mind if God was real he'd stop these things, but God gave us free will. atheists do not believe in a God at all, so what is there to loose? (that is how some of them think)

I'm just going to put a few misconceptions to rest. Cassie Bernall was never asked whether or not she believed in God. Dylan Kle bold put his head under the table and said "peekaboo" before he shot her. Valeen Schnurr, a survivor, was the one asked this question. Harris and Klebold then laughed in her face but apparently the martyr Hollywood-ised story is much preferred.
Second, they were never bullied. Not only was Eric a real ladies man who had multiple girl friends, Dylan also attended prom just days before the shooting. Even Brooks Brown, one of Dylans closest friends has constantly testified they were never bullied. There are a few videos of them being pushed by "jocks", friends of the two have regularly spoke out about these and said Eric and Dylan would try to get reactions because they thought it was funny. Bullying was not a factor in the Columbine shooting.

the real event was blown way out of proportion, a girl named Val was asked and was shot immediately but survived, a classmate misidentified it as cassie cause they died moments apart. cassie was hiding under a table, the table was flipped, she was told "peek-a-boo" and then was shot with a sawed off shotgun. Val was approached seconds later by Eric (one of the shooters who was CATHOLIC), was asked if she believes and then was immediately shot but not to a critical degree. look it up it's basically a "Christian propaganda" legend.

amethyst heart val was shot 9 times. I don't remember where but I think it said in the head and back. Cassie was praying out loud so Eric Harris shot her after he said "peek-a-boo". right after shooting her he went to Val and asked her if she was a believer and she said "yes" so he shot her alot. I'm surprised she survived that many shots

How come nobody ever acknowledges the real reason the two shooters did what they did? Even after we had their videos, their diaries, the testimony from their parents... no one acknowledges the fact that they were bullied to the point of snapping. That they were beaten, isolated, ridiculed, and not in a typical way but in a very severe way and they had no one to turn to that didn't spit in their face. Nothing excuses what they did, but if you look at different shootings like this one you'll see a pattern of kids being tortured until they lash out. So why don't we take bullying in schools seriously? As individuals, not just those cutesy PSA's you see on tv. THIS is what happens when you try for years to break someone with your cruelty, they actually break!

      Take Action.
Just grabbing the little boys and girls who bully by the ear and dragging them off to tell them 'Bad boy. Don't be mean.' and leaving them be won't help. Bullying needs to be taken to an entirely different level - this is not just disobeying the teacher, or talking in class - this could mean murder and suicide. People can be stupid, and sometimes they don't realize consequences will come. Have your fun now, bullies, but one day, you will be no more. The only reason (besides being basically insane) these boys would try so hard just to kill so many of their classmates is because they tormented them - to the breaking point. If you ask me, they broke long ago, but they waited, and allowed themselves to soak in everything.

To comment In all of you asking why only Rachel and Cassie were mentioned in this song, my guess would be because maybe their stories were the most eye opening to the band. I don't doubt that flyleaf felt extremely shaken by ALL of the deaths. However, if I'm correct cassie was the only one shot after she was asked if she believed in God. And no the song is not making fun of the columbine tragedy. Lacey was very adamant about accepting God.

No one is brainwashed to stick up for God. Cassie stood up for Christ just like he stood up for us at calvary. She had a real love for Jesus Christ and just as he died for her she died for him. That is probably one of the most righteous ways to die. I am not saying her death wasnt a tragedy. It really was sad that someone took her life because of her beliefs but there is going to come a day when we all are going to die and a lot of them are for what we love and believe in. I would rather have said yes to believing God than living the rest of my life in shame knowing that I denied him.

Cassie died when Eric turned over the table and said 'Peek-a-boo'. Sorry. It's still tragic, but not as good a story.

Eric just bent down in front of her, he didn't turn over any of the tables
