Just installed one of these units in an Audi A3 (2004, 3.2). It's fantastic. Nice and responsive, loads of sound quality settings, physical buttons. Well worth the outlay.
My Kenwood Hi-Fi is still going strong after 25 years, I put a kenwood head unit in my parents Peugeot 106 back in the day with a BMW subwoofer in the boot, great sound
I read that the DMX 8020 model had some minor software bugs. Is there any problem with the new DMX 8021 model, is there a possibility to read about it somewhere, what is the feedback from customers ?
Thank you for the review, I've been comparing 8021 vs 8020 and the biggest difference seems to be the usb c and the shallow chassis, is there any soft differences between the units that we can't see in the specs? I'm finding it hard to justify the increase in cost from the older one to the newest.
@@MumenRider78 I ended up getting the 8021, it's good the sound quality is awesome. The only issue I have with it is that it loses connection with the android auto when there is any kind of interference, like automated readers of license plates or paid highways readers. I think it is related to the frequencies of the Bluetooth connection.
@@TheHeavenArt Thanks for the response. I'm having it installed in my mk2 TT in April from CAS. Just checking that I selected the correct head unit after visiting the shop today.
@@MumenRider78 yeh, I think you made a good choice, I installed it in my MK3 Miata, it was an easy install but I haven't been able to get the steering wheel controls to work, though is probably because of the cheap harness, planning on changing that soon
I like it, but I'm looking for a unit to watch some netflix and UA-cam while parked up, still a bit confused about how to get them applications on the unit
I have a shitroen Dispatch that has many settings to be adjusted through its OEM screen, if I fitted this unit would I loose access to all those settings or does this have an interface to allow adjustment of those settings within a menu on this unit?
The problem I found is they're not full screen there's that menu at the bottom so when you put your phone against it, its not much bigger. I'd rather have maps on my phone on the air vent where I don't have to take my eyes off the road to see it in the lower centre of the car. I've missed a few turn off's because of this. I've had 2 different makes and they are the same.
How do you get the weather widget to work? It's a 2023 headunit where the manual says to install a kenwood app for the weather. The first screen to appear after the install of the app is that the app won't support weather or traffic from Jan 2023! Unless you have a solution this headunit needs a big update to remove the useless weather screen. The stereo literally doesn't do what it's advertised as doing.
Is this support iPod music for iPhone when CarPlay disable and fast Charing at same time? It’s quite important for me. I want put a iPad on top of that.If the type-c support fast charging and iPod music(wired). I would definitely take one. Since this is the only one looks like support this feature. Sony, Pioneer abandoned the iPod support with type c port.
I’ve currently got a pioneer sph- Da160dab with steering wheel control wiring fitted in my Audi does this unit support steering controls and if so will my stuff plug straight in , thanks 😊
I had the same doubt (+ Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB). I bought Kenwood - there are two camera inputs (in Sony only one; I use front+rear). I think also, that Kenwood's screen is better. Pioneer is 9200 is old, I was afraid that system SD card will gone - there are many opinions in the Internet about it.
I have a question. This unit have a gps thats work without the cel phone? Does work the google maps independently of the cel phone? Like a GPS device? Thanks .
Hi I've just stumbled across this video, can you confirm that I can change the bottom LEDs to almost match the alumination of my BMW e46? I previously bought a kenwood DMX5020DABS and was told that I could but after installing I later found out that I was lied to.
Kennwood has this absolutely horrible and ridiculous user interface (hardware and software not well thought-out). Plus an annoying warning message during start-up that cannot be removed. I bought this one, wouldn't buy it again!
Every single unit whether it’s after market or OEM has a warning message when you start up. The only units that don’t are the crap Chinese knock off ones.Surely it cannot be that annoying and besides it disappears after 10 seconds if you don’t press the ok button. What exactly are you looking for if you wouldn’t buy this again? And what interface would be perfect for you? Most if not all people will be using either CarPlay or android auto so the only time the interface is seen is during start up.
I completely agree with you I just bought 8021 if you switch AppleCar ply picture looks like from cheap head unit my original vw head unit was show better quality
@@radford_0731The warning message gripe aside, that user interface is absolutely disgusting lol. I completely understand where they're coming from, and Pioneer is jus as bad. Alpine is a little better in that regard, but barely. The only brand making a modern looking 3rd party UI is Sony, and they lack customization (but it still looks great) I personally don't mind using android auto/carplay, but Android Auto especially is just inherently glitchy from an application perspective sometimes. You're better off utilizing a simple Bluetooth interface for head units for simple reliable Audio listening, and thats when the UI absolutely matters Alternatively, brands could spend more than $5 in their R&D budget to make their UI look like something from the last 20 years, but I digress
I was thinking in buying one, because it's the only brand here that give full warranty and any problems they solve it. I think probably i have a option for pioneer, but i see this is better, i wanted alpine but no sellers here. I thinking in going for the cheaper Dmx7722dabs what do you think?
I would not buy it again either. It's only a Display with Radio. The volume knobs are ridiculous small. No possibility to Control it from the steering wheel. If the sun is shining I cannot see anything. Once the DAB radio is switched on, there is no possibility to switch it off. Horrable UI. I hate it...
If you're listening to a radio station through AA, using an app like Tunein, BBC Sounds etc you can use the shortcut buttons on screen, or your voice, or steering controls if fitted. If you're listening to FM, AM, or DAB, you would need to use steering controls as these features aren't built in to Android Auto.
@Panscrank999 maybe but I paid £300 for mine and got a dab arial I could think of another name buying a head unit for 480 and then having to go buy an arial to listen to dab pmsl
Of course it's not worth it if you're already have 8020 installed.. I mean come on lol I know it's in your best interest to sell it, but be more fair haha Either way I'm looking to get 8020 or 8021 but I see very little difference between these 2 other than the form factor.
Do you think it is better to buy the Alpine ILX705D, of course this is the European model and the American one is probably the ILX507 like the Kenwood DMX8021Dabs? From the beginning, I thought of buying a 7" head unit, but I came to the conclusion that it would cost me a lot, if I want a good thing and not some Chinese crap or something else, because I was also interested in the BOSS head unit, but then what I read from users many bad experiences etc... I will probably buy a 1-DIN head unit which has good Pre out 5-Volts and good sound and good screen lighting on a sunny day. Volts pre out, the screen is still very difficult to see on a sunny day. Of all the 1-DIN head units I have at my disposal, I chose the Kenwood KDC-BT960DAB because it has 5-Volts pre out, good sound, and the screen lighting is good on sunny days and of course it also has a ROTARY KNOB for the volume. Of course I forgot to say that the ROTARY KNOB for the volume is also very important to me because I don't have steering wheel controls and I hate typing on the screen or buttons. The price for the Kenwood KDC-BT960DAB is at me in the store 173 Eur (190 US dollars) and then the Alpine ILX705D has a price of 650-700 Eur (710-760 US dollars) and the Kenwood DMX8021DABS costs 550 Eur (600 US dollars).

What is the resolution of the screen?
Hi, which model do you suggest between this Kenwood model and the Alpine ILX 705D. ?
I am also interested in this, which would be better Kenwood DMX8021dabs or Alpine ILX-705D
Sounds just like what I need (OK what I want, not need)
