I miss the 80's too. Nothing has come close to the variety and quality of music produced during the 80's. Thanks god for UA-cam. It's may it possible for my fav 80's bands to tour again (fixx, tff, english beat).
You know their music (especially this song) just takes you to another place ... makes you forget everything. Its so different from everything else. I got my 17 year old neice listening to this now ... she thinks they great ... but she has not clue its from the 80s!!
This song is significant to me personally in numerous ways.... being 15-ish when it was released, it was automatically my favorite from the SFTBC album. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it would come to explain the rest of my life as a corporate worker; but more importantly, was an introduction to jazz when I didn't even know what jazz was ! And they are still one of my favorite listening choices to this day.... I guess that's what people refer to as timeless:-)
Songs From the Big Chair will always be on my all time best albums list. This song and every other song on it are probably the best work ever from Tears for Fears. Although I love the Elemental album and Raoul they really never have held a candle to this. I was sorry to see that the boys got lamb basted on their last album Everybody Loves a Happy Ending. That album stands up well on its own. but none of their other albums came close to this
That modulation before the "find out" part is so freakin great. It builds up to that slowly, and then it's such a great payoff. Fantastic songwriting and arrangement.
Tears for fears sendo Tears for Fears!! Nenhuma outra banda conseguiu chegar na relevância que eles tiveram para essa geração! Simplesmente sensacional!!! Palavras me faltam para descrever o que é ouvir e sentir Tears for fears !
OMG, not only a masterful song, but I wish I would have paid more attention to the lyrics when I was 15 ..... I only liked the music back then but now these lyrics are the story of my life
I agree, this could be for me their best song. I am so pleased I kept my video tape ' Songs from the Big Chair' by Tears For Fears I bought in the late eighties, I think I will watch it tomorrow.
from "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" try "Size of Sorrow","Who You Are"and "Ladybird" all slow beautiful songs.better yet listen to the whole thing from start to finish.plus what iluvTFF said, especially "Pale Shelter" "Bloodletting Go"is also a MUST!! enjoy!!
Best song ever, no doubt. No matter if it's the studio or live version, it will always give me cold shivers. One ques: What is Roland doing with his guitar, constantly strumming the strings?
❤Chile-Brasil.❤
Yeah, that could be it, maybe due to the time constraint. And you are also right the whole band does not to be 'in sync' with each other at times! Many years ago, I was watching a documentary/music video of Tears for Fears in Concert as it shows behind the scenes preparation of both concerts and music video. The Working HOur performed in it, in one of the concerts blew me away! BUt could not find them anymore/anywhere. Oh well . . . Thanks again Mezza
Peço desculpas aos mais puritanos e sem querer ofender...ESSA BANDA É BOA PRA KCT!!! Sou suspeito em elogiar uma especificamente. Gosto do repertório completo do Tears For Fears.
You are right! Upon reviewing and comparing both video again, I realised they are BOTH the same guy! My bad! Sorry! But I still feel the improv version does not work for me. (It still sucks) becoz it felt like he is rushing into it unlike the other one. Anyways, appreciate the head up there! Thank you. Mezza
Correction to the lyrics... with all due respect.... Those that pay us definitely DO NOT learn by our mistakes!!! They just want to get paid and go home. It's the American affliction.
The saxphonist guy sucks in his rendition for this! Otherwise its great song by Roland And Curt. The one Live in Canada (or Munich) from apeldo0rn is better I feel!!

"FIND OUT. FIND OUT. WHAT THIS FEAR IS ABOUT!" - utter amazingness

@TearsForFearsFan Agree 100%, this is my fav from TFF and probably the most under rated song of the 80's.
Tears for Fears, el suceso de los 80's.
25 years ago, that is insane. Great song-writers. Something fresh, interesting, complicated, and original to come out of the 80s. Great stuff TFF

His name is Andy Sanders. He played live with them during the SFTBC days.

That's cool.
@JeffTheNebraskaDJ agreed, Songs From the Big Chair is the best, and tragically underrated
Great! Sounds like a prog band!

"Ladybird Text Animation" LISTEN!!!
IS a god! so is Curt. Check out NOTP 2008 in Germany. You can't keep a good band down!
Why do I get a scene in my head of a 1985 Action Crime Drama film whenever the saxophone starts at the solo part?

Who's on the guitar with Roland and Curt?
The saxphonist guy sucks in his rendition for this! Otherwise its great song by Roland And Curt.
The one Live in Canada (or Munich) from apeldo0rn is better I feel!!
Who is that on the sax?
That one is Will Gregory
Please, tell me more? :D
(I'm like a-techinal, I'm sorry)
Rolly sounds like he's in a bad mood here.
Who is playing bongos?
He looks upset about something here.
