I like how jaunty/cheerful(?) this song sounds versus the almost apocalyptic and abstract tone of the lyrics, it's a cool contrast - makes me think that the singer is trying to distract themselves from their worries by imagining all these different mental images while still trying to go about their day, hence not hearing their friend because they've zoned out and asking them to repeat themselves!
FERRY UPLOAD MY DAY IS SAVED! Edit: I think this song is about a friends suicide and pretending to not notice the struggle before they committed suicide. The lines, 'Bite your tonge until it bled, bled' and 'you smile politely while you sink into the mud, mud.' The lines about a falling sky and a fissure in the place your house once stood indicate a unhappy household. The lines 'it's not on me to save a stray train from it's impending crash' and 'Your hands scratch the ground but all of us have it hard' as well as the repeated lines about pretending to not hear what the person is saying. TLDR: The song is about someone who tried to pretend that they couldn't tell that their friend was suicidal and as such they killed themselves. Edit 2: I have been following Ferry for such a long time, it's nice to finally support them by buying a poster. Much love from Aus!
Oooh you might be on to something, the "But all of us have it hard" line makes a lot of sense in that context. The repeated "What were you saying" implies some regret or trailing thought and I couldn't place that either especially with the "I" lines in the chorus, but it makes sense here too.

READY FOR TEN MILLION PARAGRAPHS OF ANALYSIS? 'CAUSE BOY DO I HAVE A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS SONG Let's start with our characters. From the mentions of "girly song", "missing a beat", "rerecord" and "practice at your place after school" we can infer that the singer and the second person (the "you" in the song) make music together. It's easy to make the conclusion that the singer (Yuzuki Yukari) is also a singer in the story and the second person plays some kind of instrument. We can infer that the second person is going through a bad time. "A fissure where your house once stood", "your hands still scratch the ground", "sank into the mud" and so on. "A fissure where your house once stood" most likely indicated issues within their family life. The singer, knowingly or subconsciously, is ignoring their pleas for help (their "silent mayday"), as indicated by the repeated questions of "what were you saying?". The second person is trying to reach out but is not being heard. The singer is outright dismissive at times, in lines such as "you can do better" and "all of us had it hard". She does accidentally acknowledge the second person's suffering in the line "It's not on me to save a stray train from it's impending crash" - here, she switches from dismissal to the denial of her responsibility. The stray train being the second person and the impending crash being the consequence of their problems (possibly suicide). The idea that the singer is simply a bad, ignorant friend would be a reasonable conclusion to make, but I actually think there's more nuance there. Let's hold that thought and observe the connection between the lines "My hand slipped with a dirty splash" and "You smile politely as you're sinking into mud, mud, mud". The second line refers to the second person succumbing to whatever bad situation they're currently in (same as the previously mentioned "impending crash"). The "dirty splash" of the first line is what undeniably connects it to the second. What would cause a dirty splash? Mud. I think the first line is about the singer holding onto the second person to prevent them from sinking into the mud. Notice the word "slipped". While she may have been dismissive of her friend, she didn't want to let go of them. At some point her friend's issues may have simply grown beyond her ability to handle. These characters go to school. They're teenagers at most. It's not unreasonable to believe that both of them are out of their depth here. Let's move on to the second part of the song. I think many of the lines here indicate that the singer herself is going through a hard time, albeit a lot more vaguely - "the weekend chokes on a filthy shadow", "I'm losing my hold" and "It feels as if my tired legs are filled with lead, lead, lead". I think the source of the vagueness is that the singer is dismissive of her own issues as well. Perhaps the reason why she dismisses her friend is because acknowledging her friend's issues would imply some uncomfortable things about her own life. It's easier for her to believe that suffering is just an acceptable part of life for everybody ("all of us had it hard"). I especially enjoy the breakdown of the song. "In my head you sang the same way" is such a powerful subversion to throw on at the end. This means that the singer believes her friend is treating her in the manner that she has been treating them: being dismissive and unhelpful. I don't think we, the audience can conclude whether this statement is true or not, as the singer has been an unreliable narrator all the way through. It could also just be the natural escalation of her denial: going from "your problems aren't that bad" to "you're problems aren't my responsibility" to "well YOU didn't help me, so why should I help you?". "Your voice was clear, albeit shaky, but even so I asked" - This, to me, no longer reads as denial. She asks her friend what they were saying out of pure shock, probably. We never find out what the friend has said, but considering the theme and tone of the song, I think we can infer that the friend has just told the singer they don't want to be alive anymore. This is as explicit of a call for help as the singer is going to get. It's no longer a silent mayday. And now, confronted with the fact that she's been subconsciously dismissing her friend all this time and that this really is a moment of crisis: She plugs her ears, forces a frown and falls back on the same dismissals and denials, willingly this time. Fucking excellent ending.
GOD DAMNNNN I never thought abt it like this but when you lay it all out like that it makes so much sense!! The parts that still stick in my brain are "Now shame and anger overtake me atop the overpass" especially contrasted against "You're looking down from atop the stairs", just because it feels like a parallel, as if the singer is now in the position of the subject of the song and understands what they were going through or regrets it somehow--all around I love the interpretation of it being abt complex grief though! It wouldn't be a Ferry banger if it didn't make me think about it for hours afterwards HAHAH
there's something about Ferry's song that's so addicting. I just HAVE to listen to them at least 2-3 times to be satisfied. it just pokes my brain in a way nothing else can
this is actual fire, holy shit. it feels so different from your other music, but in a good way! i’m getting a “hopeful desperation” vibe from the lyrics. not sure if they’re literal or metaphorical, but… i’d like to think they can be interpreted either way! excellent work man, it’s always great to see you upload!
I really like the suicide theory, (though I could also see it working with say, domestic abuse) other commenter proposed - line "it's not up to me to save train from it's impending crush" it may seem as though they were impossible to save, as sometimes it is said - well if somebody wants to die they are going to do it no matter what, but that's just an excuse to calm pangs of one consciousnes here Friend is already long dead - fissure when your house once stood They were trying to look for help, sings of impending doom were clear- their voice was "clear albeit shaky" (its admited only in the end by lyrical ego in the end) 'message unread' and they ended up getting half intentionaly ignored, their problems relativised - "im sorry friend what were you saying ?" and classic every person with mental health problems must have heard before "but all of us have it hard". Ferry as always nails upbeat voclaloid with depressing lyrics theme.
the vibes for this are so good ahh it feels very summery(?) if that makes sense, while still keeping the classic ferry grunge, this is going to be playing in my head for days I can tell loll
I just ordered a poster from the link in the description :D My... reptilian brain tried to find more of PAFL lore in there... and then I got stunned by the art and wanted to express appreciation for all the cool songs over the years :,D
A NEW BANGER!!!! edit: after listening to the song the way that I see it is as like... someone who has the visions of an oncoming apocalypse, visions that completely take over the way they perceive things until they snap out of it ("sorry friend, what were you saying") but they see themself ask someone who would be unable to stop it in any meaningful way, or at least that they don't know how to stop it, so they just kind of choose to ignore the visions and go on with their day-to-day life. so what happens is they almost get used to these visions, so much so that when the apocalypse actually happens, they try to snap themself out like usual only to realize that it's not a vision this time. ("your voice was clear but shaking [...] sorry friend, what were you saying?")
Obsessed w this song....... the repetitions are wonderful !!! This song feels so.... ough. I don't know how to describe it. Yuzuki Yukari is a wonderful choice for this song.... this kicks ass ‼️‼️‼️
this song seems to be a reference to taking ones own life mixed with references to either nuclear bombs (filled with lead, lead, lead. Also the dry riverbed line because it instantly evaporates pretty much all water) or the japanese fire-bombings(phosphor burned a silent mayday) Or maybe im just looking too into this
Ooh, they’ve written songs about nuclear warfare and historical metaphors before so it would actually make sense. The theories I keep seeing are hello charlotte/friends suicide/prophecy visions and I’m very curious what it was actually written about, if it’s anything specific. It does feel like it has a narrative.
Oh I love the guitar on this one. It has the usual crunchiness but sounds a little different. Also, happy to see the dead hand girl's still kicking around!
This song was uploaded at the perfect time for me to listen to it on the train ride home from staying at my best online friend's place for a week. It kinda reminds me of her because lately I feel like I can't stop her from making bad decisions, I can't warn her about the red flags of her latest relationship that she swears will last forever because in the moment she wouldn't want to hear it. It will be the same as always. All I can do is comfort her when it inevitably doesn't work out and pretend I didn't see it coming. This song gives me kind of a nostalgic vibe. I've known my friend since we were 13. The last time I visited her was in 2018. It's not like we've grown apart, but it's not the same as it was, bad things that forced us to grow up have happened to both of us since then. Nobody could fault me for not somehow preventing her from dating this guy, if it makes her happy then that's great but I still have an awful feeling about him
The two phases of me listening to a new ferry song: Phase 1: Bestie, I'm not sure about this one... Phase 2: PHOSPHOR BURNED A SILENT MAYDAY... Idk what it is, Ferry just. never fucking misses. She unerringly manages to, time after time, find the perfect combination of sounds to make my serotonin receptors light up. "The sky's careening down, into the red waterfront..." and boom, I'm stimming in the street. Holy shit

I know it's besides the point but I can't stop staring at the art--I don't know if you drew it on paper and scanned it or just used really realistic digital brushes, but god DAMN it looks so crisp and dynamic!! Music-wise though I'm always a fan of the upbeat tune and stream-of-consciousness lyrics with sad undertones.....if I were to take a crack at analyzing it I would say it's about trying to remain calm and/or positive in the midst of terrible things happening all around but finding it difficult to continue living day-by-day as if nothing's wrong e.g. "smiling as you sink into the mud", but I assume it's meant to be kind of vague by nature HAHA
Ferry sneakily uploaded while im asleep hoping i would not notice /j The front bit almosy reminded me of a video that was like "every smiths songs ever" or something like that. That being said, i love the guitar
I feel like this could have symbolism of death in some variety. Either physical(sinking into the mud like being lowered into a grave) or the death of the self. Mud perhaps in this case representing "dirt" or a "tainted" act or action. Or it's neither idk
Makes me feel empty numb depressed yet just wistful for the childhood I could’ve had in a nostalgic watching the sun over the bridge and cars driving by as white noise
you know its gonna be good when you see Ferry use Yukari
Nah, I know it's gonna be good when it's ferry

Strong Hello Charlotte vibes. Love it
when i first saw the thumbnail i thought it was a q84
Try listening to chattering lack of common sense.
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGH TOO. the vibes, the artstyle, everything.
Can't wait for this song to alter my brain chemistry for the next 6 months
underrated comment X,D
Same! That or its relatable one of my favorites is prolly feline philosophy
FERRY COOKED
Ferry will say "I whipped up a quickie" and drop a song that alters my brain chemistry permanently
this is actual fire, holy shit. it feels so different from your other music, but in a good way! i’m getting a “hopeful desperation” vibe from the lyrics. not sure if they’re literal or metaphorical, but… i’d like to think they can be interpreted either way!
excellent work man, it’s always great to see you upload!
ohhh kumo thank you!! very glad you enjoy:)
I really like the suicide theory, (though I could also see it working with say, domestic abuse) other commenter proposed - line "it's not up to me to save train from it's impending crush" it may seem as though they were impossible to save, as sometimes it is said - well if somebody wants to die they are going to do it no matter what, but that's just an excuse to calm pangs of one consciousnes here
Friend is already long dead - fissure when your house once stood
They were trying to look for help, sings of impending doom were clear- their voice was "clear albeit shaky" (its admited only in the end by lyrical ego in the end) 'message unread' and they ended up getting half intentionaly ignored, their problems relativised - "im sorry friend what were you saying ?" and classic every person with mental health problems must have heard before "but all of us have it hard". Ferry as always nails upbeat voclaloid with depressing lyrics theme.
the vibes for this are so good ahh it feels very summery(?) if that makes sense, while still keeping the classic ferry grunge, this is going to be playing in my head for days I can tell loll
Oh my good, it has such a summer vibe for some reason
i'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks this!
I just ordered a poster from the link in the description :D My... reptilian brain tried to find more of PAFL lore in there... and then I got stunned by the art and wanted to express appreciation for all the cool songs over the years :,D
that's so sweet of you, thank you so much!!
i fw this heavy. Cannot describe what i like so much about it but this is really fucking good
Thanks kanade
@@ferry2943omg K praised you are you happy? I think it means you save people with your music well
A NEW BANGER!!!!
edit: after listening to the song the way that I see it is as like... someone who has the visions of an oncoming apocalypse, visions that completely take over the way they perceive things until they snap out of it ("sorry friend, what were you saying")
but they see themself ask someone who would be unable to stop it in any meaningful way, or at least that they don't know how to stop it, so they just kind of choose to ignore the visions and go on with their day-to-day life.
so what happens is they almost get used to these visions, so much so that when the apocalypse actually happens, they try to snap themself out like usual only to realize that it's not a vision this time. ("your voice was clear but shaking [...] sorry friend, what were you saying?")
im obsessed with this, its becoming my favorite... like ever maybe
Obsessed w this song....... the repetitions are wonderful !!! This song feels so.... ough. I don't know how to describe it. Yuzuki Yukari is a wonderful choice for this song.... this kicks ass ‼️‼️‼️
ferry drops a quickie and it's literally all i listen to for the next week
I thought everyone forgot about Yukari at this point, no one uses her these days, and as usual Ferry delivers, bless
this song seems to be a reference to taking ones own life mixed with references to either nuclear bombs (filled with lead, lead, lead.
Also, happy to see the dead hand girl's still kicking around!
i ate mud and it looked like shit on my face because of this song
thank you for that experience
I CHOKED ON AIR AND FELL OFF MY BED THANKS FERRY🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Nobody could fault me for not somehow preventing her from dating this guy, if it makes her happy then that's great but I still have an awful feeling about him
dude. Another "quickie" that's not gonna leave my head for years just like all the other ones you've done before lol
LETS GOO FERRY UPLOAD
ferry says quickie --- I say fucking forest fire
The guitar riff is so fun
ANOTHER FERRY BANGER LETS GOOOOOO
AYOOOO NEW BANGER DROP, LETS GOOOOOOOO

I wish Ferry's music and videos will be my personal circle of hell, because I think I can watch them over and over again
The two phases of me listening to a new ferry song:
Phase 1: Bestie, I'm not sure about this one...
Holy shit
That's actually so real though
FRRRRR if youll excuse the cringe anime reference, shes like the gae bolg of good music
Ahhh! This song is so good too! Sense!
As soon as your alarm went off, I immediately came to listen to your music! The pictures and music are great!❤💗🌈🦋✨👍☀️🎵👏😻

I WAS JUST LISTENING TO UR MUSIC OMG
THANK YOU FOR THE MEAL!!
IM SO HAPPY TO FIND THIS CHANNEL AFTER SO LONG FERRY AND YUKARI ARE THE DUO!
Got the go, now we’re locking the door
A girly room, girly song, girly nylon
Missed a note, but we’ve been there before
A finger snaps right against the bone
Don’t you think they’re a little too cool?
It’s all the same kinda lame ambition
Sure, I’ll make it to the practice at your place after school
To find a fissure where your house once stood
The sky’s careening down
Into the red waterfront
You can do better, force a frown
And watch the flood, flood, flood
Your hands still scratch the ground
But all of us have it hard
You smile politely as you’re sinking into
Mud, mud, mud
Phosphor burned a silent mayday
My hand slipped with a dirty splash
My throat was overfilled with waste and
Pure noise spilled from the gash
It’s not on me to save a stray train
From its impending crash
Ah, sorry, friend, what were you saying?
What were you saying?
Rerecord? No, I’m getting too bored
The weekend chokes on a filthy shadow
And the door is gaping open but I’m losing my hold
The air is damp with the stench of mould
A cute pic for some iffy affairs
You say I’ve always been slow on the uptake
I can’t find you anywhere but then I lift up my head
You’re looking down from atop the stairs
The autumn sun descends
Under the dry riverbed
It feels as if my tired legs
Are filled with lead, lead, lead
A wry expression melts
Into a message unread
You smiled and bit into your tongue until it
Bled, bled, bled
Phosphor burned a silent mayday
My hand slipped with a dirty splash
My throat was overfilled with waste and
Pure noise spilled from the gash
It’s not on me to save a stray train
From its impending crash
Ah, sorry, friend, what were you saying?
What were you saying?
In my head you sang the same way
In bare cement and burning grass
Now shame and anger overtake me
Atop the overpass
Your voice was clear, albeit shaky
But even so, I asked
“I’m sorry, friend, what were you saying?”
“What were you saying?”
Looking down
I saw the red waterfront
I plugged my ears, I forced a frown
And watched the flood, flood, flood
Your hands still scratched the ground
But all of us had it hard
You smiled politely as you sank into the
Mud, mud, mud, mud
This just gets better and better the more I listen to it
Funky sound or electric guitar are so vivid and cool to me.
ok wait this is definitely one of my favourite ferry songs now, its so well produced
mmm... crunchy
New Video LET'S GOOOO!!!!
I've been listening to this on a loop for nearly a day now; what an absolute banger.
ART LOOKS SO COOL... 😦
GRRR THIS ONE MAKES MY CHEST HURT!!! love your work ferry
Yukari sounds so good, love the way she's tuned. Another god-tier song right there :))
FERRY STRIKES WITH ANOTHRR BANGER AS USUAL....
This songs feels like sitting alone on a swing in the middle of a feild at the end of summer
i love staying up til 5 am and being gifted a new ferry song 👍 my insomnia is never punished
Ferry dropping a "quickie" made my day for years now
I know it's besides the point but I can't stop staring at the art--I don't know if you drew it on paper and scanned it or just used really realistic digital brushes, but god DAMN it looks so crisp and dynamic!! "smiling as you sink into the mud", but I assume it's meant to be kind of vague by nature HAHA
maaannnnn the guitar on this is great. i love the imagery, these lyrics feel very evocative. super catchy as usual. amazing stuff
Ferry sneakily uploaded while im asleep hoping i would not notice /j
The front bit almosy reminded me of a video that was like "every smiths songs ever" or something like that. That being said, i love the guitar

Every Yukari song they post is a banger frfr
FERRY COOKING AND LEAVING NO LEFTOVERS AS ALWAYS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ferry with Yukari feels like a warm breakfast 🎉
NEW FERRY RAHHHH
I feel like this could have symbolism of death in some variety. Either physical(sinking into the mud like being lowered into a grave) or the death of the self. Mud perhaps in this case representing "dirt" or a "tainted" act or action. Or it's neither idk
amazing stuff is happenning 🔥
Well well well look who's here
can’t wait to listen to this over and over for the next few months
Makes me feel empty numb depressed yet just wistful for the childhood I could’ve had in a nostalgic watching the sun over the bridge and cars driving by as white noise
