I feel like the roster has gotten a lot more stratified than it was to start. A lot more isolated. Stories are more separate and isolated. People have their arcs and then return to where they started. I know a lot of things have gone wrong for the company but the main title picture has been stagnant. There were a lot of people we, the fans, wanted to see getting at least title programs if not title reigns. And it's about be locked down for another 6 months easy once MJF takes the belt, be it a babyface reign or a reign of terror. They're doing a tourney for the right to be the challenger right now and no one in that tourney feels like a threat to take the title. We wanted the House of Black in the title picture, literally any of them. We wanted Bryan Danielson in the picture. We wanted Yuta or Hook catapulted into the picture for at least a feud. Kingston. The Lucha Bros. Pac actually got on the fringe of the picture as an add-on and we got that fantastic triple threat he probably wasn't supposed to be part of. We got Jericho and Mox feuding forever. We got a Hangman run of no serious threats and then CM Punk ends it. Like, nothing stands up to Mox on his first run. Kenny's run. Even Jericho and the Inner Circle. Nothing has gotten that level of hype. Like even the thing about Kenny's run is we knew all along who was going to take the belt from him. Right? And still he had a procession of reasonable threats and great matches and entertaining feuds. Challengers we would've liked to see win. The title picture is stale, but MJF isn't. Face or Heel, people are cheering him because he's fresh. He's entertaining. He's a guy we watched climb to the top. We love to cheer him, we love to boo him, we're invested.
I’m so over long title runs. There are definitely exceptions but there’s too many of them so none feel special at all (apart from Roman but that’s only because his reign is like twice as long as all the other too long title runs). As much as a lot of the midcard and undercard Attitude era sucked, the main event scene was always stacked and everyone always got a chance to have their run. Imagine if Stone Cold and The Rock had held titles for a year at a time because they were the biggest stars. You’d get much less Bret, Shawn, Undertaker, Kane, Angle, Foley, Lesnar, Jericho etc. Hell, wasn’t the whole reason people hated HHH so much because he held those titles all the time and stifled other talent?
@@wh5601 Roman's thing started out fresh, got really really stale, Roman took long breaks, and then Sammy got into it and now it's back to fresh again. Not gonna claim it was good the whole time, that's not true at all. I suppose part of the reason I don't ever buy into some midcard guy winning the world title is because it's never happened and honestly I think that's over due. If you never do something, people will be shocked when you do it and bored when you do it. I'd say that being the first midcarder to upset the World Champ for the title is gonna be a star-making performance for AEW.
@@SageVallant Oh, I’m not saying it’s always been good at all, just that it’s the only one that really feels significant. A lot of other 6-12 month reigns (not just in AEW) don’t really feel that important because of how common they are now and as you say, they often spend a good portion of that time feuding with people that no one buys beating them
Completely agree with Tempest’s first point- I don’t feel any sense of continuity across storylines. Things also seem moment first not character first. It’s like “we need the belt on Toni Storm” not “we’ve been building the character and nows the time to pull the trigger on Toni” if that makes sense.
Man, "We'll come back to that later" feels like one of the key issues of AEW. Its not even a case that its planning for "long term storytelling", its essentially not wanting to adjust or even change plans despite circumstances have changed. Lucha Bros v Proud & Powerful The Trios Titles being delayed for Kenny's sake which effectively cooled the entire trios division until The Elite came back UE v Elite Holding off Thunder Rosa winning the title. FTR winning all the gold. The entire Jericho/Kingston/JAS/P&P/BCC/Garcia/Danielson story (Holy crap, this feud) Interim Titles Everything is just an example of not capitalising on things.
Do you remember tuning into Raw during the attitude era, (or before) and the first graphic they show you is an upcoming match between X vs Y on NEXT WEEK'S Raw. They planted the seeds early and made you want to tune in. AEW has a huge roster and the talent to take advantage of this.
As I've mentioned many times before, the best way to hold a storyline is to kayfabe an injury and use it to build heat. For instance, Hook was hot but now what do you do with him. Even though he may be green, they could've produced a serious violent challenger who attacks Hook and breaks his arm. That leads to a feud that can build over several weeks while Hook can't wrestle with the kayfabe injury. I thought they were doing that with Christian, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus but it was done badly.
Tony Khan has a massive issue with signing people on impulse with no plan for them, this has lead to a bloated roster with too much of nothing going on, no story’s are getting time to breathe because he’s cramming too many people onto 2 shows.
The mind boggling thing is when he had a "weaker" roster he wasn't booking as many rematches. He is cramming too many people onto 2 shows while also keeping stories for way too long, advancing next to nothing. Results: the feeling of importance the show had is gone. The performers are stuck in bubbles rather than facing various opponents (particularly infuriating in the case of Danielson or the Jas vs Bcc feud in general).
Its not even that, he has plans for them, he starts rolling the ball, and then STOPS. They have so many dropped storylines and things not paying off for no reason, and stuff just becoming like its always been instead of following through on things.
The thing missing for me is ,something to look forward to every week ,like I wait for SmackDown to see the next chapter in Bloodline storyline ,what sami is doing.
I think you guys are on to something with TK the booker. As a long term booker, I think he’s unrivaled. When injuries or backstage drama or other unforeseen circumstances derail those plans, he struggles to adapt.
Maybe one of the major issues that AEW and all promotions, including TNA, face and have faced is this idea of wrestling wars. If we stop with this idea of WWE v AEW we will be able to look at the good parts of both and say yeah that was cool and the bad parts of both and be able to call them out on it. Then there won't be these shifts in momentum where you will feel one has more good will than the other and would be able to look at the show by it's own merits
I live in San Antonio and was at this year’s St. Patrick Day Slam Dynamite. It had the Thunder Rosa v Britt main event, the official formation of the J.A.S., Undisputed Era v Jurassic Express & Hangman, Wardlow losing his TNT title match because of MJF, and the first Hardy Boyz match in AEW. It’s crazy looking back at great the product was just earlier this year. Everything just worked together perfectly. I hope AEW can get back to that level of consistency soon.
Pushing the gripebomb and Tony Khan's failed plans for CM Punk aside, the biggest mistake in handling the fallout was giving the belt back to Moxley. It resulted in the repeated beats of his Interim reign, which meant that the segments and the excitement around the main event title got stale. Mox had already ran through the "I am the heart and soul of AEW" with Punk and lost to him, so when the belt went back to him and MJF came back everyone had already figured out the outcome of the next PPV. It didn't really help that everyone was reporting on how Mox had missed his vacation for this title reign, so even one of the guys involved in the main feud is already on the stage of "let's get this over with". I'm not going to agree with everyone saying how "this PPV will be a reset" since I'm not really comfortable with putting my trust in Tony Khan to deliver a good product anymore. Sure, MJF will get the title with Regal turning on Moxley and sure, The Elite will win the titles back and all; but what happens after that is not an eager "yes, AEW is back now" from me but more of an "eh, guess we'll see what happens".
To add to your point. It seems that they might have Regal turn to join Mjf, imagine if the champ was Danielson and he turned on "his son" to join the Devil.
AEW's missing a consistent story. The Punk debacle derailed plans along with injuries plaguing everyone. Hype burned and fizzled out with Punk and Hangman only for guys like Danielson and Moxley to step-in short notice. Its done alright, but arguably the best talent just haven't been feat. or done properly (Wardlow ex.).
This discussion really got to the heart of the matter. AEW stopped paying off the fan investment. I'm seriously torn about spending $50 on this week's PPV. The card is there but it all feels like it means nothing. I really loved the idea of BBC but they've barely done anything with them and now it looks like Regal will turn on them. The Firm is wack. I don't even recognize this version of Stokely. He used to be so much sharper in presentation. And I never got a proper return on my interest/excitment of HOB. The Women's Division is a LOT of cringe. I am baffled at how cold TK has let some really popping wrestlers get. No, Dynamite isn't "horrible" but I used to have a really good time watching and that's not happening as often. TK has a lot of vitriolic critics and I don't always understand the extend they will go to drag him. I'm still rooting for him to deliver on AEW's promise.
AEW is missing its vision why they started the company at first place.. Tony had this vision that it would be different and fresh and showcase the storylines and long term booking. Having an AEW Originals be the upcoming stars but Tony has lost it and became the thing that he hated the most. if Tony just refocus and look back at Year1 he should be able to bring the company back on track..
Personally, I'm starting to feel blueballed by AEW. I now feel like I'm watching AEW out of obligation instead of enjoyment. I think if it is the case that TK can't handle booking on the fly, then he needs to hire people who can help fill those storyline/booking hole better. Lately I feel like AEW promises and fails to deliver and I'm left apathetic towards a PPV that has a solid card, but lacking the week to week connective tissue to really get me excited to see Full Gear.
It also worth noting that Tony has big roles in both his family’s sports teams, of which I know for sure at least the Jags are mid season. I think that he’s probably spread way to thin and just thinks that he can do it all.
I am just waiting for ROH to get a TV deal, once we get all the ROH talent over there, we can have more focused AEW talent. Nothing against ROH, but it seems they split the show 50/50, when i want 90/10 on my AEW show
most obvious thing to me is there’s no hot feud going on rn. Should’ve and probably would’ve been MJF v Punk. Felt like after the regal AND MJF promo there was no build for MJF vs Moxley
Call it a coincidence, but the storylines seemed to have started staggering once Cody left. I wonder how much input he had in the stories outside of his own?
This. I know TK swears everything was his idea and work but the storylines started going off the rails with Cody's leaving. Maybe TK has more help than he wanted to acknowledge.
I’ve been saying this for a while. People forget that Cody was there from the start not Tony. Cody was the heart of that company and now he’s gone. A lot of guys Cody liked are kinda fading away and the locker room has been is disarray.
@@derekebert8819 Tony was there since All In and was talking to the Elite about starting a company since then so it seems like you guys don't really know what you're talking about
Luke mentioned that it might be a sub 100 thousand buy rate, and i hope thats not true. But i wont be spending 50 bucks on the damage control show... I'll seek it out after the fact... REALLY looking forward to the roh 4 way though...
As someone that's been watching aew before it became aew it really has hopefully mjf leads the company in a way better direction but only time will tell
That was my point by the way. There comes a moment when all this negativity surrounding a company makes it hard to enjoy the art for the fact that I don't really like the company or its CEO. That was actually compounded with the old regime of WWE because there was that factor on top of the fact the product was a Goddamn dumpster fire.
Honestly agree, felt like no one was changing or growing in the company, I’m honestly so tired of this JAS stuff, and If I have to see the A$$ boys on my screen 1 more time I’ll just stop watching 😂
I think between the talent that was released by WWE and having ROH, Tony seems to think that he needs to shove all of that in our faces instead of building up home grown talent. Why hasn't Mercedes Martinez been on tv defending the ROH women's title? Where is Shida,Yuka and others?. Tony has way too much stuff on his plate and AEW had taken a hit cause of it.
Agreed very little ties together anymore story and interaction-wise, which is very frustrating. Lost interest following internet content weeks ago, not that it matters much with TV other than to establish match records. Still going to order PPV for Saraya's return (though concerned about her reception) and potential for Mercedes to appear. Sadly names in matches are more interesting than reasons for them to be in a match sadly (i.e. JJ/Sting, MJF/Mox, etc.) Losing patience watching meaningless content with so many story starts/stops.
Hearing brawl out used to make me chuckle now it gives me existential dread 😂 Also this might be a hot take but the acclaimed being pushed over ftr right now just makes sense. They should be featured more but they should not be taking the belts off of the acclaimed
So Morrissey was fed to Wardlow earlier in the year but impact said don't make him look weak he loses to 1 Powerbomb why did they not let him Kickout and then lose to the symphony that would have been a strong finish for him then. Now he's just a big man in a group doing nothing.
Biggest thing aew is missing is a weekly tv show for ROH. Once that happens the rosters will be split which equals more time and coherent storylines for all involved I’m tired of hearing all the complaints about how many title belts are on the show knowing full well that they are only around till ROH gets their own deal
I disagree with the wardlow take tempest had, that was on tony you can argue that mjf had a bit to do with it but after that once wardlow won the tnt title it was all on tony to capitalize on the momentum he had but he put him in matches against people that the fans just dont care about with the exception of orange cassidy. So far with Wardlow's tnt title reign there hasnt been anything that made me go "I want to see him as world champion one day"or "This guy's going to be world champion". I get why tempest kind of lost faith with the booking of the young talent for me it's the same. They either get built up or organically get over such as sammy before the tnt title as an example but once they win a belt the reigns they have are lackluster compared to what the people that are the future of the company should be having the acclaimed feel like the exception to that along with MJF when he gets his run with the world title. Britt and Darby were the closest to that personally, even tho their reigns had some repetitive elements to them. I've definitely found myself thinking "AEW's lucky that a good amount of the wrestlers they have on tv can have a good-great match" cuz to me the booking has dipped since Punks initial injury.
Tony stopped trying with the tnt title, that's a shame it was one of my favorite until Miro lost it. That's not on Sammy that's on his booking he could have been a good champ. Scorpio had no buisness winning that belt and beating Miro in their first match.
@@jimmycare9010 that is 1000% on his booking lol. I still remember watching swerves podcast with tony where tony said he thought putting tay on screen with sammy was a good idea. Me being a Sammy fan and him being my favorite pillar his story with the tnt title was me covering my face with my hands looking through the gaps of my finger waiting for the train wreck that was about to happen once tay was put with him on screen.
Injuries and personality/mental health issues combined with TK being bad at pivoting resulted AEW being in a perpetual holding pattern. What is AEW missing? The wrestlers that are supposed to be the focal point in the stories that TK created. This can be seen in just about every story. Jungle Boy? Christian is hurt. Miro? He was doing something with HoB and Malakai had his thing. The Trios titles? The Elite are out. Cole and O'reilly? Concussion and neck surgery. Page? Concussion. I could keep going on and they've brought up some others that I forgot on this video. Unless TK gets better at pivoting this will always be an issue.
What I've noticed is that TK is affair to pull the trigger on a lot of the great matches that he can do. Perfect example, like wardlow vs anyone. TK doesn't want wardlow to squash anymore else. IHe needs opponents, and Take hasn't booked anyone. Also once discovery Warner gives AEW the second hour to rampage. A lot of these problems will solve themselves
I've been playing Marvel Snap since it's launch and I'm 1000% addicted to it. I play atleast 8-10 hours a day. I'm currently playing it while i listen to this lol 😅😅😅
Moxley going to rehab, Kenny Omega's Injuries, CM Punk's injury, Brawl Out, House of Black leaving for personal reasons, Thunder Rosa's Injury, Santana's Injury, Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reily's injuries, CM Punk's politicking and rubbing people the wrong way, Brawl Out; With all of this happening it's a wonder things haven't been steady and connected like expected. The fact that the past 6-8 months have been enough for people to lose faith just proves what Danielson said when he was the planet's champion. People are FICKLE
One thing they haven’t mentioned is things running well past their sell by date. The Dark Order is the biggest one. Brodie Lee died tragically. These guys ceased to be some sort of spooky group. They’re just a bunch of weirdos who are together because I don’t know, but somehow they’re on tv just about every show even though they’ve been directionless for well over a year now. There are other groups like this, but they’re the most prominent
I think right now AEW just isn’t the red hot company it was last year & they are also lacking a compelling storyline. Truthfully the company isn’t as red hot as it was last year it’s currently in a slump. While the wrestling is good AEW is lacking a storyline worth investing in. This time last year the wrestling was good the company was red hot & you had the Omega & Page storyline that everyone was invested in. WWE for example like AEW also has good wrestling but the two major differences are the company feels red hot & they have a storyline worth investing in that being the Sami Zayn & Bloodline storyline. AEW tv doesn’t feel like must see tv while WWE feels like must see tv & a year ago when she was the opposite way. All companies go through ups & downs I want all wrestling companies to do well as both the wrestlers & fans win when everything is good. Rooting for AEW to get out of this slump
Full Gear feels like a big reset point for AEW the card is absolutely stacked from top to bottom and hopefully coming out of Full Gear we will be able to get new storys started with The Elite being back and MJF hopefully being champion and Jamie Hayter possibly being champion and Strickland ect.
I personally feel like Tony Khan taking over ROH has hampered the product of AEW overall because he's trying to manage to much. That along with Punk and The Elite situation probably messed alot of future plans up
If they were smart they’d put off the elite hangman reunion and flip the script by hangman causing Moxley to lose the belt because of the concussion mox gave him and then run a hangman heel face elite run until they finally come back together
I've been saying this since Full Gear last year...It was the Men of the Year vs. Inner Circle storyline when I started seeing the decline in booking. The quality in AEW has slowly gone down since then
AEW is missing the identity they had when they first started. It all started after the ROH purchase. I have seen both Dynamite and Rampage that were more that 1/2 ROH. Add to that the other cross promotion of NJPW and AAA. There is VERY little weekly focus on actual AEW I had been watching AEW since All In. I haven't watched either show in about a month now. This will also be the first PPV I skip.
AEW was perfect until they overshadowed Cole with Danielson and then didn’t go attitude eta with the title. They have 75 guys who could hold that title but they’ve only used 3 this year and they completely ruined 2 of those guys. And no title feels important
Perhaps Tony is not the booker he has been made out to be. Is it possible he told Hangman “you’re going to feud with Kenny - go out there and make it happen” (or the Elite may have pitched the feud from the beginning). Then all that great nuanced storytelling was carried by The Elite (much of it on BTE) and by Hangman’s incredible acting/reactions. Then flash forward a few years: “Hey Phil you’re going to feud with Max… go out there and make it happen” 🤷🏻♂️
I think AEW feels like it’s in a holding pattern because let’s be honest no Elite No hang man page No punk No Miro No Maliki Black / house of black Very little FTR No Adam Cole So it feels like something is missing
I think TK’s booking is actually good, yet he misses in balance. There were months where you had so many debuts and returns it became an habit, to a point where not having nothing new was The new thing around. Now, since Saraya, we really had nothing.
THEY JUST GOT WHAT THEY WERE MISSING AND HIS NAME IS DOUBLE J.... JEFF JARRETT.... AEW needs that OLD WOLF., Make Jeff Jarrett the AEW champion and make him defend it like a Legend.. cheating, outsmarting younger talent and having 5 star matches with the present OGs... let him hold the title for 1 1/2 till we're sick of it. Like John Cena....
The magic is gone. Familiar booking tropes and issues are being repeated and lessons haven’t been learned. It’s still good wrestling but it’s no longer unmissable TV
I’ve never been a huge AEW fan. Will say that out front since suspect this’ll be a semi long comment. Always felt somehow both predictable and messy/chaotic to me. Black and Gold NXT and Stardom were my two favourite brands and now it’s HHH main roster and still Stardom. However, there have been periods of/individual feuds in AEW I’ve really enjoyed and I think most of them come when the promotion takes its time. Not in the long term booking sense (though that’s good too) but more so when segments don’t feel rushed and time is taken to reflect on things, making the story beats feel more dramatic. If you’re making episodic tv, you need to allow stories to breathe, not rush onto the next totally wild and different thing within seconds. Makes it so much harder to invest in people and feuds. Honestly, think that style of booking bleeds into some of my other frustrations around the lack of psychology/selling in some AEW matches too. All part of that same inability to pause and let things sink in before moving to the next cool thing or spot
AEW : *huge heel turn in the ring from this guy on his teammate for five years* Excalibur : yeah yeah big deal but now let's go to Alex Marvez who has an exclusive 30-second interview with The Factory
Nothing to do with Aew but if you don't mind me asking, did you drop nxt? If so when? It's a pretty good show now honestly. It has the same feel as 2015 nxt, with a bit of nxt uk.
The issue is you guys loved the 2 week build for Cm Punk and Kingston but then say you need more than 2 weeks to build to a match. Yes the performances are great but the timeline still was short and undeveloped.
Some people, most people, are less fledged-out characters and have less presence than Kingston and Punk. That's why 2 weeks build don't work everytime.
I think aew finally got to focus on alot of new stars this year (death triangle, orange cassidy, acclaimed, Jamie hayter, willow, wardlow) and stop meta watching wrestling cause if you don't then every heel HAS to be likeable. It's so annoying when a heel is booked like a heel and the response is aw that's go away heat or it makes not care for the story. Like Damn can a bad guy be a bad guy!
Since WWE has improved so drastically, I wonder if AEW lost its purpose. When WWE sucked, AEW was an awesome alternative with long-form matches and interesting stories. Now Hunter is doing a good job, perhaps part of it is AEW isn't really needed anymore? Outside of that, I agree with the guys that not alot feels special. It's partly because they're not capitalizing and not talent like Hook or FTR.... but the endless stream of titles and talent means nothing has time to build, and nothing feels special. The roster is overinflated. Regardless of what happens, I'll always appreciate AEW for what it achieved when wrestling wasn't at its best.
While most of your points ARE valid, I think calling AEW “a cold product” and acting like no one really cares about it at the moment is teetering on catastrophizing
Eddie Kingston getting eliminated by Ethan Page in the first round is so reminiscent of Brock going over Austin in round 1 of King of the Ring. I love this random push Page is getting but it feels so out of left field.
There's also been a SLEW of injuries over the past 6-8 months (Cole, Page, Kenny, Malakai, Miro, Thunder Rosa, Kyle O'Reilly, Punk, to name a few) and couple that with backstage suspensions (Andrade, The Elite) all of that changes plans. Not only does an injury effect the Wrestler themselves, it effects whoever they are currently feuding with, as well as their allies, and the allies of anyone they were feuding with, it's like a ripple effect. Look at all those major stars out with injury and just try to name the people effected by those injuries. Cole and Kenny (derailed Red Dragon v The Elite, Cole v Danielson, which would have also roped in the Bucks, Regal, Mox at the very least) Malakai (Black v Miro as well as House of Black v Miro and allies) Thunder Rosa (Toni Storm and Britt Bakers stories were effected by this) Punk (well.. that one screwed the world title picture overall.) TK Books in PPV Cycles, 3 months at a time, everything from All Out to Full Gear would have been written, re-written, fact checked and signed off on. It's had to be progressively scrapped and hastily re-written several times due to the above.
This makes sense, of course, far be it from people who's job it is to watch and review wrestling to take things that happen outside of kayfabe into consideration without, and this is the most important part, letting their own expectations effect their opinion of current bookings.
I think for the trios The Elite should win after PAC tries to get The Lucha Bros. to cheat and they don't, then they have a small tournament (just 2 rounds, 4 teams) where they do go heel over the course of it to get a rematch for the titles.
Other than The Elite burying Death Triangle, I don't see any of that happening. The Elite getting the Trios Championship immediately coming off suspension, just makes the Trios title useless and nothing more than vanity belts for The Elite
They (somehow) lost the ability of long-term story telling. It's known (and slightly understandable) that AEW kind of hit a lull during football season, but they haven't told MULTIPLE long term stories for awhile. MJF storyline... and that's really it right now...
Hot take: Tony has some qualities as a booker, long term story telling isn't one of them and never was. The long term stories we got were pitched and developed by the performers.
@@jimmycare9010 Problem is there isn't really any way of knowing that for sure. I'd like to think that all creative is a collaborative process between TK and the tallent, but TK is incredibly hard to sit down with because he has so many other commitments
Turn Bryan Danielson heel, start feud with Moxley. After the feud Danielson (Heel) feud with MJF(Face) and eventually drop Belt to Danielson. MJF comeback and defeat Danielson and full on Face MJF run.
From what I can see they're missing a boss. I think a lot of them are improvising their promos. I won't be surprised if Saraya does what Punk did this weekend.
I feel like the roster has gotten a lot more stratified than it was to start. A lot more isolated. Stories are more separate and isolated. People have their arcs and then return to where they started.

The narrative that they're pushing wwe stars is wrong but I think some people may have this impression because of what you're describing.

@@SageVallant Oh, I’m not saying it’s always been good at all, just that it’s the only one that really feels significant. A lot of other 6-12 month reigns (not just in AEW) don’t really feel that important because of how common they are now and as you say, they often spend a good portion of that time feuding with people that no one buys beating them
This is a great topic. Great timing and everything. Way to read the room.
Completely agree with Tempest’s first point- I don’t feel any sense of continuity across storylines. Things also seem moment first not character first. Its not even a case that its planning for "long term storytelling", its essentially not wanting to adjust or even change plans despite circumstances have changed.
Lucha Bros v Proud & Powerful
The Trios Titles being delayed for Kenny's sake which effectively cooled the entire trios division until The Elite came back
UE v Elite
Holding off Thunder Rosa winning the title.
FTR winning all the gold.

For me it's Bray Wyatt, anything he does grabs my attention.
@@Dreagona Earlier ,used to be excited to see what MJF gonna do before he was away during Double or nothing.
I think you guys are on to something with TK the booker.
As a long term booker, I think he’s unrivaled. When injuries or backstage drama or other unforeseen circumstances derail those plans, he struggles to adapt.
The phrase "Ass Boys on the bottom" makes me laugh more than it should
TK should use Full Gear as a major reset.
Start doing stories that are actually compelling again.
And now I’ll mention that Darby Allin hasn’t mattered since the CM Punk match
AEW is missing the BLACKPOOL CONTENT CLUB.
I'm just here to say I love you guys and respect and support all your opinions. Jam that jam
Hookhausen was as over as Send Hook, but just like Send Hook it disappeared for no reason. See also Miro.
Great points, much love!
I fly the AEW flag . I want them to succeed .
But this love has to be reciprocated .
100% agree
It also worth noting that Tony has big roles in both his family’s sports teams, of which I know for sure at least the Jags are mid season. I think that he’s probably spread way to thin and just thinks that he can do it all.
They really drop the balls on so many Warlow, BCC, Kingston, Garcia and so many. At this point i really doubt aew will be able to recover
It's also around when Punk showed up and started monopolizing everything...
Gonna answer the thumbnail before watching. Good feuds and story telling, the stuff they used to do so well. Really lost their way.
As someone that's been watching aew before it became aew it really has hopefully mjf leads the company in a way better direction but only time will tell
I couldn’t agree more with the points being made here
That was my point by the way. There comes a moment when all this negativity surrounding a company makes it hard to enjoy the art for the fact that I don't really like the company or its CEO. That was actually compounded with the old regime of WWE because there was that factor on top of the fact the product was a Goddamn dumpster fire.
Blackpool Combat club should have more members and always have someone from the stable cornering you in a track suit
It's interesting watching this video after the events of Full Gear. Feels like a lot of their concerns they have might sing a different tune now.
How much heat could the Young Bucks get by wearing those new CM Punk Best in the World t-shirts in their entrance at Full Gear?
Agreed very little ties together anymore story and interaction-wise, which is very frustrating. Lost interest following internet content weeks ago, not that it matters much with TV other than to establish match records.
Still going to order PPV for Saraya's return (though concerned about her reception) and potential for Mercedes to appear. Sadly names in matches are more interesting than reasons for them to be in a match sadly (i.e. JJ/Sting, MJF/Mox, etc.)
Losing patience watching meaningless content with so many story starts/stops.
Khan's main strength as a booker is building to moments but he really struggles with the aftermath
Hearing brawl out used to make me chuckle now it gives me existential dread 😂
Also this might be a hot take but the acclaimed being pushed over ftr right now just makes sense. They should be featured more but they should not be taking the belts off of the acclaimed
Short answer Miro.
Long answer Miiiiiirrrrrrrooooooo
HHH has the major benefit of his honeymoon period leading into the road to Wrestlemania he can keep momentum moving up
I havent actually thought about this. Good point!👍
There is no need for Chris Jericho wrestle every week in TV. One in the month is OK.
So Morrissey was fed to Wardlow earlier in the year but impact said don't make him look weak he loses to 1 Powerbomb why did they not let him Kickout and then lose to the symphony that would have been a strong finish for him then. Now he's just a big man in a group doing nothing.
AEW feels like it's stuck in traffic right now. Also, I feel like Eddie Kingston should've had Ethan Page's spot in the Firm.
Marvel Snap is...holy mother of GOD, it's got its hooks in me like it's a Cenobite and I just solved the Lament Configuration.
Ethan Page is gonna be AEWs Baron Corbin.
Oh god, I hope not. Ethan deserves better than that.
@@yxeaviationphotog I agree, but gotta admit it's looking that way.
Fans: "We want FTR"
Tonk Kahn: "Okay, Here's the Ass Boys"
Fans: "Why are you the way that you are?"
I still love AEW, but I DO get what you are saying. The lack of a payoff on stories really does bug me.
Full Gear feels like a big reset point for AEW the card is absolutely stacked from top to bottom and hopefully coming out of Full Gear we will be able to get new storys started with The Elite being back and MJF hopefully being champion and Jamie Hayter possibly being champion and Strickland ect.
well from the clips ive seen,
much like WWE:
a full crowd opposite of hard cam
I personally feel like Tony Khan taking over ROH has hampered the product of AEW overall because he's trying to manage to much. That along with Punk and The Elite situation probably messed alot of future plans up
I hardly disagree with Luke for saying SD is not the best weekly show, simply because the other choices are not nearly as good
I do enjoy Marvel Snap
If they were smart they’d put off the elite hangman reunion and flip the script by hangman causing Moxley to lose the belt because of the concussion mox gave him and then run a hangman heel face elite run until they finally come back together
Ironically, YOUR SUPPORT. ❤️
I've been saying this since Full Gear last year...It was the Men of the Year vs. Inner Circle storyline when I started seeing the decline in booking. The quality in AEW has slowly gone down since then
I also think Omega and the Bucks are probably a big part of the creative brain think.
They should rename this podcast “ The slag off AEW podcast “.
2:10 Are you saying that we should change RAID SHADOW LEGENTDS for that? Sure Luke :D!
AEW is missing the identity they had when they first started. It all started after the ROH purchase. I have seen both Dynamite and Rampage that were more that 1/2 ROH. Add to that the other cross promotion of NJPW and AAA. There is VERY little weekly focus on actual AEW
I had been watching AEW since All In. I haven't watched either show in about a month now. This will also be the first PPV I skip.
Something Something Cody Rodhes
Unironically yes. Not Codelander but first year Cody, no one took his mantle
Tony Khan saviour of Wrestling and Booker of the year. Sorry wrong year
Missing? A actual storyline!
AEW needs Paul Heyman as the booker
I think AEW feels like it’s in a holding pattern because let’s be honest
no Elite
No hang man page
No punk
No Miro
No Maliki Black / house of black
Very little FTR
No Adam Cole
So it feels like something is missing
AEW : *huge heel turn in the ring from this guy on his teammate for five years*
Excalibur : yeah yeah big deal but now let's go to Alex Marvez who has an exclusive 30-second interview with The Factory
Nothing to do with Aew but if you don't mind me asking, did you drop nxt? If so when?
It's a pretty good show now honestly. It has the same feel as 2015 nxt, with a bit of nxt uk.
Need to get Enzo and have him tag with Big Cass again
The issue is you guys loved the 2 week build for Cm Punk and Kingston but then say you need more than 2 weeks to build to a match. Yes the performances are great but the timeline still was short and undeveloped.
Some people, most people, are less fledged-out characters and have less presence than Kingston and Punk.
That's why 2 weeks build don't work everytime.
Luke if you like Marvel Snap you should play Nikke... 😉
Bloodline stuff top them all
More than anything, AEW is missing harmony and professionalism.
ITS MISSING THE ENTERTAINMENT PART!
I could do without any Elite/Hangman storylines for awhile.
Some Adam Cole energy again perhaps?
I think for the trios The Elite should win after PAC tries to get The Lucha Bros. to cheat and they don't, then they have a small tournament (just 2 rounds, 4 teams) where they do go heel over the course of it to get a rematch for the titles.
Other than The Elite burying Death Triangle, I don't see any of that happening. The Elite getting the Trios Championship immediately coming off suspension, just makes the Trios title useless and nothing more than vanity belts for The Elite
Y'all bashing on Tony for not adapting but y'all aren't taking into account that Tony has only been a booker for 3 years...
Then maybe he shouldn’t have been the Booker in the first place?
It’s a tough topic. But you all handle it as well as you can
A tough topic?! My god you snowflake aew marks really need to go out and touch some grass.
Marvel Snap is fun!
