This video should be useful to anyone working on a GY6 scooter not just a Genuine Buddy 125. But if you ARE working on a Genuine Buddy 125 (PGO) you can download a factory service manual here: shrsl.com/2pzmq
Here are some useful tools that will help you get this job done!
-Here is the flywheel puller I use in this video: amzn.to/2XPcVKz
-Here is an affordable impact kit that can get this job done: amzn.to/3alJ9ji
-Here is the impact driver I'm using in this video: amzn.to/2yoRaqC (I really stand behind this one)
-Here is the stator I installed in this video: www.scooterworks.com/NCY-Stat...
-Here is a cheaper stator alternative: amzn.to/2XT52Uz
There are many reasons you may want to replace your stator. Maybe it wont keep your battery charged or maybe your scooter doesn't run at all. This video should be able to guide you through the step by step process of replacing your scooter's stator.

Thank you sir for the help. We didn't even need to do your "Special Trick" for the fly wheel.
This was one of the BEST explained videos I’ve ever watched. And I laughed hard at the sound effects lolol.
LOL I am working on a 1981 Honda CM 200 Twinstar and this video helped me! I really appreciate the thorough explanation and tips and tricks, it applied to my project, strangely...Thank you!
Glad to help my friend! The twinstar is an awesome bike! We're big fans of them down here in the shop!
Scooter 911 !!! Thank you for doing these videos .. I have learned so much about working on and maintaining my scoot!! The way you explain the technical issues so that even I can understand is great!!! Thank you !!!!
You sir, have to do way more videos. I don't even own a scooter but watched the entirety of this one!! Love the Corolla and Pinto
Hahaha well I think that's your subconscious telling you that you need a scooter!
@@Scooter_911 lol
You mean, "Another scooter".
I currently have a Kymco people 250, and an Aprilia sportcity Cube 250, and recently acquired a Genuine Buddy 50 for only $1. It does need a deep carpet cleaning. Thus your videos have come in very handy.
Having said that, I would still like a longer version of your theme song. Thank You, Alexandra
Carb cleaning... not carpet :-)
I knew how to do this but it's so satisfying watching this video. idk why.
hahah the S in ASMR is for scooter!
It's very well edited, thoroughly explained without overboard into detail, and you learn the whys of things and not just the hows. That's what excellent tutorial videos are made of.
You would say this can help me w replacing Stator in my Sym Symba? It's ordered but not arrived yet
Dude. Thank you. I now know how to change a stator. I couldn't figure out my no start issue. Finally I checked the spark plug after replacing the plug, Coil, cdi, carburetor and voltage regulator. I came across this video and got a stator boom fired up and after a little bit of carb tuning it's running good. Thank you
Well done Garrett!!!!... The ending. And alternative methods to remove made my day.... Big thanks for that too!!! Not something you see every day.
You would make an excellent instructor. Thanks for graciously passing your knowledge down. Thumbs up.
Can't thank you enough Great teaching.Mike from Michigan
Also, good job on the scoring haha
Super good teacher!! I have a Buddy 125. I have watched many of your vids. Thank u!!
Thanks for watching!
What a delightful video! I enjoyed the sound effects and how thorough you are, definitely gonna help me when I have to remove my scoots flywheel
This is a great video explanation. Ima watch this while I change my stator
After watching your videos I get more confidence thank you so much for instilling that in me
I followed the steps and my scoot still did not start. I put my old CDI back on because the orange one ended up not working because it was AC. This was not giving me spark to my plug. Right as I tested the plug with the CDI that was DC “original cdi” not the aftermarket orange one. My scoot started up. It’s a 2010 Sunny and now it runs and starts very easy even without carb cleaner. To think if I hadn’t rescued the scoot it would have been junked. Keep the scoots alive!!! Thank you!!!!
You’re a life saver. Thanks for making this walk through.
Thank you so much for your how to repair Tao Tao scooter videos. I've had lots of trouble getting reliable service work at the dealership in Myrtle Beach! Hopefully thanks to you I'll be able to make most repairs myself.
this is the best totorial i have ever seen
great joob thumbs upp
ok ... crystal clear video, clear verbal instructions, excellent editing ... i'm in.
So grateful for all the tutorial videos!!! ✌️ 🕊️
I have no idea how I ended up here, but glad I did. Great work here 👍
Thank you, even though I didn't need to fix my stator, I watched this and became very informed as to how it works. The wiring diagram and explanation was fantastic.
Thanks, I'm getting ready to try this on a 2002 Vespa ET2, great help as I had no idea where the stator was!
You're a Scooter Stator Superstar!
You know it!
Thanks for that hammer tip for the puller. I don't remember what I was working on but I had some trouble with some kind of puller before.
Your ability to educate is exemplary. Instructional video's by Tim Tebows doppelganger.
Outstanding video. Thanks.
Pro job, well explained sir.
Thanks for the info! Nicely presented.
Thank you very much!
Great editing and vid
Thank you so much buddy ,Wow, I really love your videos!
Glad to help!
Very helpful video! Thanks!
I have my fan cover off and now Im glad I watched this
Garrett for starters you're a natural teacher, your videos are the best FAQ type help that people need/want and I commend you for your brilliance! Lastly it's no secret that you are one handsome dude and you have that jeneseqwa that keeps attention😅 #peanutButterJeleous!
Wow, I really love your videos! Just stumbled on to you after purchasing a 2007 Honda Ruckus at a steal. It's had charging issues since I got it a couple months ago and after replacing the battery without any change... I dove into a deep UA-cam Rabbit hole. You not only helped me diagnose the stator issue (Just borrowed a multimeter yesterday and cracked her open today) but you are incredibly easy to listen to and straight to the point. I LOVE the diagrams and how clear your shots are on the parts - pointing out and enunciating each as you go along. I'm a super hands on learner and the service manual makes my head spin, but after watching these videos, everything makes sense. Thank you again for taking the time to share your knowledge. It is priceless for this middle-aged, mentor-less, mechanical wannabe!
I'm looking forward to watching more!
Wow thanks for checking in! It seems like you might be less "wannabe" than you might think! keep it shiny side up!
Great job getting the scooter repaired and going once again.
Just doing what i can!
@@Scooter_911 my scooter has a 12 pole stator and I need to replace the motor. Do I have to get another motor with a 12 pole (not easy to find) or can I get basically any gy6 motor as long as the stator is dc? It's on a 2017 Wolf ex150
hey ! Very instructoral effective and sharp pictures and good light and angels. Much pleased and apreciated this ! :-) Thx !
Glad you liked it!
I have a Tomos moped. You have’s helped me a lot. I have no choice but fix it myself
Good delivery of information. Excellent instructional video.
And the soundtrack to add tension is awesome
Thank you very much!
@@notpurple gotta get my money's worth out of that microkorg!
Just a simple thx for sharing the knowledge!
Thank you for helping us out here in scooter land. There's so much motorcycle help but not near enough scooter videos that
A. Speak good English that I can understand
B. Not shaking the camera like a horror movie
C. Enunciate and clearly explain the part names
D. the diagrams are super helpful
I have a little 150cc BMS scoot and it's been a champ thanks to your help. ❤
Thank you so much
3 or 4 ugga duggas, kattywampus....yeah I'm definitely related to this guy.
Best explanation ever thanks
your awsome you covered all the bases.
VERY Good video!!! Thanks!
Very Helpful.Thank You.I want to be able to work on my scooter when I get it.
Really v v good video/ demo ,love it,nice tips God bless u sir TKQ V MUCH
so many helpful videos. thank you
Thanks for watching!
Why didn't you say the gap its support to be
Last method love it you don't wanna do it but u do it for the crew!
It's so easy.....great video
Great video I replaced my starter battery , cdi , regulator and solenoid lol now I know it's my stator
I like this channel .from algeria .go ahead bro
Some of the most informative videos great job. Interestingly enough I came across a peace sports 50 where my universal flywheel 24/27 mm did not fit this one's more like a 26. Have never seen this.I'm going to have to use a regular type bolt spanner puller
Need my 2007 Honda Jazz stator changed sure draining the new battery Thanks very clear video, 80 year F ,
thank you. Very useful.
Thanks for the video,
Great info ,keep up the great work everyone
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Great sir. Appreciate
Garret, vis e vis the no spark issue that you addressed for me, double checked per your recommendations still had the same result so I built an external CDI start box as seen on Harvey Spooner youtube channel which then I had spark so I began by using old parts with the CDI box, not to belay this story I found the coil at fault despite the ohms reading on the coil Many thanks
are you referring to the pickup coil being at fault?because I found my pickup coil was a problem only the ohms was reading okay but did you also know that you have to check for voltage?when I checked for voltage I got nothing!!! and I checked with two different meters so yeah it was bad voltage no voltage reading oh sorry by the way this was on a 50cc GY6
@@shellilogan771 Shelli, I was referring to the ignition coil, yes I did check for voltage output of the pulse generator
Enjoyed both the Porno and Ragtime versions of the theme song in the background. But the OEM 8-Bit Atari version is the best.
And you're right, the last unrecommended method is terrible. It's an expensive part to mangle if it turns out not to be the problem, and it can be difficult to know with absolute certainty that the stator is bad.
Adjustable spanner to hold fly wheel to remove nut makes working with only hand tools so much easier, but I normally screw the screws back into the hole and use a pry bar to prevent rotation
you are good, so easy seems :)
Some people are born with mechanical talent above the average , it is a gift I am among them, and so are you. That's why I watch your videos. You understand the mechanical relations among the components of the device you are working on, and it shows.
We are lucky, not everyone is. But that does not stop them from posting a tutorial video. 😒Thank you, and keep up the good work!
nice video thx :)
You're just like Tim the tool man Taylor I like it
Don't forget your BINFORD 6200 impact driver. Uh oh ohh ohh
I learned a lot from your videos. I like the way you present explanations to the problems, diagrams and actual work. I like your sense of humor. I even like the stupid music and sounds. Great job man! I've watched hundreds of scooter videos and yours are the best. I wish you could do problem solving on Vespa LX50. Anyway, looking forward for new vids.
Take care.
Very nicely done video. Thank you. Sub'd!
Awesome, thank you!
Hey Garret , this is a great video man . Thank you. Just like all of the ones you make. So based on one of your other videos I was able to figure out that my stator is bad. I have SYM HD200. I have the new one and Im about to bust this puppy open and replace it. Any tips and help in regards to changing the stator on SYM would be great. It is a liquid cooled scooter and it looks like its going to be a bit more complicated opening up the right crankcase to get to the stator. Id appreciate any advice. Thank you .
Very good Video ,,,
Ill just take it to the shop. Much easier less Headache and Time.
One thing an old chainsaw guy saw that you missed was checking and setting the air gap on the pulse coil. I usually use a business card but a .010 feeler gage works fine, too. I think the general spec is .010-.025. I set mine to .010 on all my saws with a business card and check them with my brass .010 feeler gage.
I thought the same thing
Thank u 👍
Garret, could you please advise me what the AC volts reading coming directly from the stator should be on a 50cc scooter with a DC Cdi box when cranking? I have a no spark situation that is driving me mad. Thank you very much I really enjoy your videos...
Great video. Any ideas on upgrading a stator on a 2008 yammy zuma 50cc 2t? I need more wattage lol.
When I do not have a puller, I put upwards pressure on one side of the flywheel with one of my pry bars and hit the opposite side of the flywheel with a hammer, or putting the flywheel nut back on the crank a few turns and whack it. I have pullers now for all Stihl chainsaws and a 6y6 scooter, so I use them, instead, with my I,pact driver to remove flywheels. Pullers make things much easier.
So for the 50cc does the fly wheel tool thread on to the right?
How do you feel about stator upgrades to 11 pole stators for more watts?
You're video has been very helpful in my current situation. I am currently working on taking the flywheel off but I don't have that special tool mentioned. Any ideas on how to remove it without that?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hey @garret seesing, had a question about a tao tao... front lights stopped working and it wasnt the bulb or fuses. is it the stator? if so how can i fix it?
Hey Garret I was wondering is there a specific brand of 3 jaw puller you recommend the flywheel puller damaged the threads in the flywheel so I cannot remove it without a 3 jaw puller side note I also think I might need a new flywheel lol
Can I switch a DC stator to an ac stator and not have problems? I bought a new engine from the scooter store and after installing it, I have no spark. So I went back to scooter store and told them and they came and looked and said I have ac wiring but a DC stator In the new engine.... They told me to hook up the wires differently, which I did, bit that still didn't work. I have my old engine that has the ac stator I need but am not sure if they are interchangeable like that? Please help. Thank you for the great video.
Should I have continuity between green and yellow from the back plug to plug at rectifier?
Hi, thanks for the video. Will the flywheel puller you linked is compatible for a 2015 SYM Joymax 250i? Thanks
Hi, I have a question, I know you have the right answer. My 50cc wolf scooter have a 4 wires 8 poles stator( white, yellow, with connector and 2 more wires for spark plug system) but the wire harness in scooter have same wires plus a green one at the connector so when I plugged them together the green wire of the harness don't connect with nothing . Since I bought the scooter charging system never been working.
What you recommend me to do
I have a problem with my vespa LX50. It will not start up i put new oil
and stuff. And on more thing where is the cdi. U beed help bad ty
Hi! I love this videos! I have a problem with my Baotian sport 2006. It charges fine. But when I put on low beam or high Ben voltage over the battery goes down to 9.8 volts!? What can be wrong?
Can u use a 2 jaw puller to remove the ignition coil
My 49 cc madami moped scooter dont have that kind of set up how do i change stater in it and wat one do i need ?
Hey Gary I got a question what pole stator is on a 150cc Tao tao evo
Awesome 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
@@Scooter_911 you'll see a lot of me I just got a 2015 Kymco super 8 150x and it's built well so I wanna take good care of it. And yes fixing everything yourself IS the selling point of a good Skoo-Tor🤕
I need help! My Gy6 Scooter (BMS Heritage 150) will only start if I bridge the two posts on the starter solenoid. Once started it runs perfectly. Electric start and kick start do not do a thing, wont even attempt to turn over. I replaced the started solenoid and no better.
My woodruff key is lose any replacement link or way I can get my flywheel to set right
Hello I have a question I recently had my cooling fan to break I mean totally into pieces and I changed the fan and after I rode the scooter i could hear something rattling around inside the stator coil housing and I'm thinking that pieces of that fan got in behind the stator coil housing and yesterday could not get my moped to start and I'm not getting a spark to the spark plug and I'm thinking that that fan. In the stator coil and messed it up have you ever heard of this happening?
Hahaha full send 😂😂😂 great work there buddy. COA 250....
Team 13 all the way!
I just want to know what ratcheting wrench that is. So cool!
hay my friend, i have a 125 wange gy6... how many pull stator should i use... can not see as i am waiting for wheel puller to arrive...
I just recently got a buddy 50 Scooter I think the stator is bad because I have no spark is it normal for my stator to only have four wires three in the clip and one outside of that harness
I have 2018 kymco agility 50, it won't start using handle bar start button but will start using leg starter. After, it run for couple of minutes, then the handlebar start button works if it's warm.
So what happens or what do I do if it is stripped out inside an the special tool won't work? I did the hammer trick nothing.
Ia there a wheel puller that will work with the fan holes?
Quick question, can you use a stator from a motorcycle on a 200cc kymco scooter? (model unknown)
Mine only starts by jump starting the batery and u have to keep the throtle down or it dies was told my stater was bad ?
