Who am I but you and the sun
    A slight reflection of everyone
Was it me who let you walk away?
    Were you the one
Or is it we're the same
What are we in time going by
The simple story of a younger life
Half in dreams and somehow through the day
We haven't come so far to lose our way
Look at me, I believe it's true
You're a part of me, I'm a part of you
Love is only what we come to live
The waking, breathing and all with we give
A crystal passing reflected in our eyes
Eclipsing all the jealousy and lies
Look at me, can't you see it's true
You're a part of me, I'm a part of you
Quiet as the voices in a dream
Without two shadows the things I've seen
Remember the evening I let you walk away
    Were you the one
Or is it we're the same
Look at me, i believe it's true
You're a part of me, I'm a part of you

"For Yasgur's Farm" by Mountain is a song that explores themes of identity, connection, and the passage of time. The lyrics suggest a contemplation of self and the external world, with the narrator questioning their own existence and place in the universe.
The opening lines, "Who am I but you and the sun, A sad reflection in everyone," highlight a sense of interconnectedness between the narrator, the listener, and the world around them. It implies that the individual's identity is not separate from others, but rather a reflection of the collective human experience.
The line "Was it me who let you walk away, Were you the one or is it we're the same" speaks to a sense of personal responsibility or regret over a lost connection. The narrator questions if they were the one at fault or if the separation was inevitable because they are ultimately the same as the other person.
As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on the fleeting nature of time and the nostalgia for youthful innocence. The verse "The simple story of a younger life, Happy dreams and somehow through the day" suggests a longing for a simpler time, filled with dreams and happiness.
There is also an emphasis on love and its significance in our lives. The lines "Love is only what we come to knew, The waking, breathing, and all with you" convey the idea that love is a fundamental aspect of our existence, shaping our experiences and relationships.
The lyric "A crystal passing reflected in our eyes, Eclipsing all the jealousy and lies" reflects the transformative power of love, suggesting that it can overshadow negative emotions and deceit.
The repeated phrase "Look at me, I believe it's true, You're a part of me, I'm a part of you" emphasizes the connection between the narrator and the listener, underscoring the theme of unity and shared experiences.
Towards the end of the song, the mention of "Quiet as the voices in a dream, Without two shadows the things I've seen, Remember the evening I let you walk away, Were you the one or is it we're the same" evokes a sense of introspection and reflection. It references an evening where the narrator allowed someone to leave, possibly questioning whether it was the right decision and pondering if they were truly separate individuals or intertwined in some way.
Overall, "For Yasgur's Farm" speaks to the universal desires for connection, love, and understanding, while also exploring personal introspection and the passage of time.

The magic is more in the feeling, it's in the guitarists fingers, when a guitarist has truly arrived. Leslie West was there.

Early ! He played thru sunn amps and speaker cabinets. Some bottoms had 4x12 speakers. Others had 2x15 inch speakers. He also used a 320 RMS watt sunn coliseum amp head as a pre amp.Later he went on to use Hi Watt amps and bottoms.Still Pre Amping then ?!? Probably for Leslie's Sound. It Was All Good.

I think the effects are "Chorus" which approximates a 12 string guitar sound and then "Sustain" that just sustains the note rather than let it fade naturally.

To re-do this Mountain masterpiece, decades later, without Felix Papalardi on vocals would have been a travesty in anyone else's hands. Leslie West, the only one alive fit to sing Felix's song, does so with the grace and respect necessary to convey the kind of emotions Felix demonstrated on this masterpiece.
The original "For Yasgur's Farm" by Mountain, is a much, much better theme for Woodstock than the great Joni Mitchell written, CSN performed, defacto theme.

My brother use to take guitar lessons. I had a slight interest in it but not much. Then there came a day, .....the day I heard Leslie West, and my interest shot thru the roof! What a master, what an artist. My favorite guitarist since 69. Yes, there are lots of great players out there, but something about Leslie's style just reaches out and grabs me.
