I suspect the attestations of the Hitler youth sounded very similar. Kids trust adults and are more easily conned by them. It’s why Christian organizations ALWAYS have youth organizations.
This call is so sad in that such a young mind is so dogmatically defending garbage, while at the same time is in the top 1% of theistic callers in both intellect and behavior.
@@jefgir Did you watch the whole clip? While explaining the reference to an empty tomb as not sufficient enough evidence to support the claim of the resurrection, Matt mentioned how after Elvis died there were lots of reports of people seeing Elvis after he died and asked the kid if we should believe them. My comment was in reference to his apparent age and probable non-awareness of this happening and possibility that the kid was unaware of who Elvis was due to his youth.
This is precisely the sort of reasoned discussions and analysis, that ultimately led me out of religion. The more I studied to defend my faith, the harder it became to justify.
@Dominique Roydor True, but some people need to hear it, and be reminded. I only say that because you too often hear, you're not going to change anyone's mind. But minds are changed for the better every day.
Proud of this kid for wanting to come on the show. Back when I was a kid and Christian I would have been terrified (due to social anxiety and other factors as well). Seems like a bright kid, hope he keeps asking questions!
Dr. Bart Ehrman spent a few months in some of the oldest libraries in Europe , he came across a Roman 1st century document that said every one crucified spent no less then 6 days on the cross . A few criminals were not crucified as a show of leniency on Ceaser's birthday . No one in Roman history was removed from the cross , The purpose of a crucifixion was to deny a burial. The tomb was empty because there was no burial . The resurrection story is just a story ,
The same can be said of education which often use arguments from authority to push the political beliefs of certain teachers. They typically don't teach critical thinking in public schools.
Only because he's memorized the entire conversation. He knew exactly what people would respond and was ready to counter it. That's why he kept going to the body being stolen even after they told him it didn't matter. He was trained to have that as part of the script, and he could NOT go off-script because he's not capable of thinking without the script doing it for him. In other words, it's easy to sound intelligent when an adult hands you exactly what to say and beats you until you can repeat it in your sleep. Poor fucking kid.
@@EdwardHowton Memorized? I think he was reading from a script or some argument flow chart. That's exactly why he kept going back to the body being stolen, he didn't have an answer for some of the things they were saying.

Yes, but as I understand from a non-American perspective, most us politicans are vocal christians, so they will just keep on doing what they want, because no one will hold them accountable to their own laws :)
The "resurrection theory" for the empty tomb is farfetched and needs extraordinary evidence. We live in a world where there is far more evidence for extraterrestrial visits to earth. There are firsthand accounts, photos and even video evidence. I could probably even contend that extraterrestrial visits are more plausible than is a resurrection. Still, I would not argue that the planet is being visited by extraterrestrials. This kid is arguing for a resurrection.
Christians are arguing for the resurrection theory even though there is no contemporary evidence. Meanwhile christians are saying the earth is flat WHILE WE HAVE ACTUAL FOOTAGE FROM SPACE TO THE CONTRARY. That's the level of stupidity we are at. Ofcourse, there are more moderate christians, who like to pretend they can just reinterpret everything thats wrong in their bible, but they still cause harm, it's often just not as blatant.
To Heather Watson You make a good point. Religious beliefs are given a pass on the "absurdity meter" for no other reason than they are religious. Say that you believe the eyewitness reports of Elvis's resurrection (and there are such reports) and see where that gets you.
@iHost yes and no. It is a Christian position, but it is not a position held by the vast (overwhelming) majority of Christians. That is, it is not universal Christian orthodoxy that the Earth is flat, however a minority of Christians believe that it is flat due to their interpretation of the Bible.
@@jymbo1969 Yes, I think there is a passage where Satan shows Jesus the entirety of Earth from a mountain or something similar, which would not be possible unless the popular belief at the time that the Earth is flat were true. The child likely had a script of prepared talking points. Notice how when the hosts asked him a question or explained something to him and asked if he understood, he breezed on by and didn't address it most of the times?

I recently asked a Muslim for any good evidence that the claim is true and that Muhammad did not make it all up. The resulting discussion sounds a lot like the one in the video. As if it is a foregone conclusion that Muhammad most assuredly was involved in a phenomenon, a phenomenon unknown to mankind.

The famous empty tomb wasn't completely empty. There was a young man sat on one side, two men standing and several women. That seems pretty crowded to me.
Yes, but a simple (part 1) in the title is all that's needed to make it clear that there's a second part and not a mistake. The current title makes it seem like this is all there is to this clip.
It's not guaranteed that I'll even see the next part, let alone make the connection that it's the same call topic or person. That's an extra jump one has to make buried in the titles between the two vids
Yeah, that's why they try to get him early, especially the smart ones, they can become great assets to spread the indoctrination. A mind is a terrible thing to waste!
How tragic it is that such a bright young intellect is utterly squandered on the detestable fraud of Apologetics. This video should stand as a warning...
@Dirk Knight The kid seems too quick on his responses to be just a automaton regurgitating spoonfed answers, although I may be wrong. But he's very articulate and grasps a lot of the context of what's being said on the other side even though he's still hopelessly brainwashed by whoever his mentor is. I just think what this kid could do in the role of arguing against Global Warming or the income gap. Sad that he's wasted in this role.
@Dirk Knight Come on, you can't admit that this kid is eloquent and well-spoken in this debate? That's not saying that anything he says is correct or true -- he's obviously coming from a cesspool of Apologetics. But the kid is sharper in his responses and ability to sum up his points in a cogent manner than most adults I've heard call in. Give credit where credit's due. He's a bright kid, he's just dealing with bad facts.
@Dirk Knight I hope that I never become as conceited as you are, Dirk. Anyone with a brain could hear that this kid is intelligent while admitting that he is indeed well-schooled and trained as a seal. To call him a fool presumes that he came to his own conclusions about the deeper matters at hand, about which he would never have been able to formulate the perspicacious opinions with his youthful brain. To admit his bright demeanor and presentation here does not diminish you, Dirk. A little humility and generous grace is called for.
@Dirk Knight It's a shame, Dirk, that even among enlightened people, some are tempted down this path of conceit and ego which is so enticing that they lose all perspective and decorum, and in turn, wind up being the worst examples of whatever they represent; in this case, atheists. In that regard, you are representing your cohorts no better than the mere boy that you condescendingly slander caricatures his own. Insults against myself are not even recognized; it's tragic that you can't see past your monumental ego. I will say it once more; admitting the obvious intelligence of this poor, mis-directed boy in no way tarnishes yourself; in fact, you do a perfectly adequate job of the latter, yourself.
5:33 "Why do you think supernatural events are impossible" That was a good question ( it was certainly much better than whatever that rehearsed stuff was about accounts for Jesus) .
This kid is probably what Matt was like at that age. A fully indoctrinated kid that those who believe would find a promising potential because of confidence and confirmation bias.
Actually, I've just been checking the evidence of the four gospels. How many men were in the so-called "empty tomb" ? Matthew 0, Mark 1, Luke 2, John 2. And how many women visited the tomb? Matthew 2, Mark 3, Luke 4+, John 1. As you can see, the gospels are very reliable !
Poor kid. He's well rehearsed, somewhat "well educated" in terms of his faith but seems to have no idea that they are answers or arguments against his claims nor any convincing evidence in support of his claims.
My father died in 2007. Since then I think I've seen him walking about in town. Do you believe he rose from the dead ? Could there be a simpler explanation ?
5:00 caller. listing types of evidence, misspoke. Cited hysterical, not historical. one of his few word slips. I kinda love that, while unintentional...it is extremely apt.
I like greg. I want good things for greg. I think talking with people like this is a good thing for greg. I hope greg continues challenging (his) own beliefs.
Imagine had this child’s parents and church not brainwashed him. Imagine they let him develop without limitations, develop with an open mind. Imagine the good he could have done instead of wasting his intellect on fallacies about god. The sad thing is he walked away from this conversation as ignorant as ever and probably whining that the hosts wouldn’t let him finish his erroneous thoughts. It’s so sad that adults are permitted and even encouraged to do this to children.
I gave you a like, but to be fair, there's a good chance he's essentially been abused into knowing all of this information, be might not even have a natural drive to gain more knowledge. In that scenario him not being indoctrinated would just mean he's a normal kid, and he wouldn't have turned out this way. I'm not saying that that's definitely the case, I'm just bringing it up as a possibility. Plenty of us grew up being force fed religous arguments.
When Mary Magdalene found the tomb empty, what was her first thought ? "They have taken away the Lord ... and we know not where they have laid him !" She did not think the empty tomb was evidence that Jesus had risen. (John 20:2)
Growing up in religion I knew kids just like this , their parents groomed them to be warriors for the fight . These are the kids that figure it out and the fall is hard .
The biggest problem with apologists (aside from the fact that they're incapable of demonstrating anything they claim) is that they begin with the presupposition that the biblical story actually happened as described, without any demonstration that it did or even COULD have.
If I saw a man walking on water, I would not think it was supernatural I would try to think of a natural explanation, one that is feasible. For example, in winter, people often skate on water. And magicians can do it using deception.
Why was the tomb empty in the story to begin with. The body Jesus was supposedly walking around in wasn't even the same body. In the story he literally was talking face to face with people who spent everyday with him and they didn't even recognize him.
This is a prime example of not having a conversation, but just waiting for your turn to speak. This kid does not acknowledge at any point that the burden of proof is on the claim, not the counter claim, despite him recognising the Houdini analogy. Total brainwashing and Bible infallibility.
This kid missed something big. Before he can prove that the resurrwas thebmost probable explanation for the emplty tomb, he has tonprove resurrection is even POSSIBLE....and he can't do that
This kid did well to persist but would have done better to engage with the pushback. From my own past as a believer I remember learning those exact "facts" about the resurrection which "proved" it to be true. I never got the opportunity to talk to atheists - let alone ones who could push back on every part of the narrative I was fed. However I probably would have reacted very similarly - persisted in pushing forward and not comprehending that would have objected to just about every point I made. The thing is: this is probably the first time he's ever heard from people who disagree with his "evidence" for the resurrection. Hopefully it makes him re-evaluate his views.
he has probably given speeches at his church about the facts of rhe empty tomb. talking to the sheep he doesn't get interrupted. he was very frustrated that he couldn't keep on his rehearsed script.
Hopefully it plants seeds of doubt in his mind. Although it is easy to dismiss whatever atheists say when you are religious. Its a natural defence mechanism.

Yeah. I felt bad for the kid, but I was honestly cringing so bad (I'm TERRIBLE at sitting through cringe; especially visual or audible) that I skipped a few seconds every now and then. I just couldn't take it anymore.
That poor kid. I was indoctrinated, too, but not to this degree... I remember when I met my husband (who is an atheist; I'm still a Christian, but WAY less fundamental than I was. I'm trying to go the route of "truth has nothing to hide" and applying logic to everything, bu I'm aware that I have a lot of cognitive dissonance going on with myself right now. Maybe one day I'll be able to let go, but at the moment I can't. It's a difficult situation to be in), I gave him a book to read that "disproved" evolution and "proved" creation. How ridiculous, because I didn't even read it! I just trusted whatever the pastors told me was true.
Hopefully this kid watches this video and realizes that he didn't come off as smart as he thought he did, but I have a feeling that he thought that he had great points and that the three evil atheists are just stubborn and don't WANT to believe, so they ignore all of his "excellent" points. And I hope he reads the comments.
I suspect the attestations of the Hitler youth sounded very similar. Kids trust adults and are more easily conned by them. It’s why Christian organizations ALWAYS have youth organizations.

A few criminals were not crucified as a show of leniency on Ceaser's birthday . No one in Roman history was removed from the cross , The purpose of a crucifixion was to deny a burial. The tomb was empty because there was no burial . The resurrection story is just a story ,

Only because he's memorized the entire conversation. He knew exactly what people would respond and was ready to counter it.

I am reminded of the big claim of Islam which is that Muhammad received the word of God from an archangel.
It is the reoccurring problem with all religions: preposterous tales, unsupported by good evidence, that require unwavering belief.
The claim is that before Gabriel spoke to Muhammed, Muhammed was illiterate. He was commanded to "read," and miraculously was able to do so.

"They have taken away the Lord ... and we know not where they have laid him !"
She did not think the empty tomb was evidence that Jesus had risen.

Feel sorry for the poor kid. He's clearly very well rehearsed but doesn't seem to really understand even his own argument let alone the counter.
The biggest problem with apologists (aside from the fact that they're incapable of demonstrating anything they claim) is that they begin with the presupposition that the biblical story actually happened as described, without any demonstration that it did or even COULD have.
This kind of brainwashing is beyond aggravating.

To disprove religious claims should not be required. Common sense should be all that is required to dismiss them
There goes Ben Shapiro again thinking that talking fast equates to being convincing.
