The call should have ended right there. Anyone who believes in slavery and that slaves should be beaten depending on their behavior, is a repugnant peace of shit.
KingJustice98 perhaps I can expand. Atheism is merely the lack of a belief in god. Not morality. It has never been demonstrated, to my satisfaction, that god is required for morality to exist. God isn’t even required for slavery to be considered moral, but it certainly seems to be the best way to make the argument. Slavery is moral because god says so? I’m not convinced your god is real and am, therefore, not convinced slavery is moral. In fact, I find it to be immoral, so I’m inclined to believe your god is not moral.
You don't think it's okay to beat your slaves? I beat my slaves every day of the week and twice on Sunday (because it's the Sabbath, and the bible says I'm not supposed to work on the Sabbath). So every Sunday, I go to church and worship Gawd, then I go home and beat my slaves. Twice. It makes them more obedient. Do you have a problem with that?
I’v e realised I was an atheist since the age of 14, and I’ve seen nothing in the intervening 45 years to dissuade me of that. However, I was brought up Anglican by believing parents, and I remember our local vicar, Ben Aylott, would often visit. I remember my dad touching theodicy (the problem of evil), and the incompatibility of condemning children in countries who had never heard of Christianity to Hell with a loving god. I will never forget Ben’s response: “To hear you talk, you’d think that love was everything.” My dad recoiled. “Have you even read the New Testament, Ben?”
@@jonstone9741 Just for fun, I order my slaves to work on the Sabbath on pain of a beating, and then I beat them for obeying that order. The second beating is for disobeying the Bible. Keep your slaves ignorant, afraid and confused and they’ll hang on your every order.

It is weird to me that Christians try to wiggle out of slavery being ok with the Bible. Either kill the father or bring him low (imasculate) him into the submissive posture/behaviour.
I have watched quite a few of these videos over time and it seems to be always the same format in the main, theists will phone in with their notions and they ask what they think are gotcha questions, which are usually answered reasonably with sometimes long explanations but you just know they are not actually listening to the answers but are desperately trying to think of the next bit of whataboutery they can come up with. It is entertaining and is the perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action.

Matt has the patience of (you’ll pardon the expression) Job. How anyone can debate with a mind like this caller has without punching the wall is a superhero in my book.
I have long advocated for the ACA developing a technology whereby the hosts have a big red button. If they press the big red button, the camera switches to a bird's eye perspective of the caller as they are doused in gasoline and set alight. I'm still waiting....
Matt needs to stop the Exodus/slavery thing, and allowing the caller to say if they're cool with it, in the abstract. FORCE THE CALLER TO AFFIRM THEY ARE OK with being IN THE SLAVE ROLE (already, For Christ sake). Likewise for Issac and Abraham ....don't allow the caller to identify with Abraham. Force them to assent to being in the Issac role... Likewise for Jeptha, etc Jeez... Matt, this isn't rocket science... WTF.
Its because Matt, as an atheist, doesn't have to do any work. The null hypothesis allows for the lazy intellectual to philosophize all day without actually making a point.
These commentators are geniuses. They make sure important questions are answered before moving on. Using logic over emotion proves superior. Calling in to tell the hosts that their presuppositions prevent them from accepting evidence... gets immediate trapped by his own presuppositions.
Matt defeated himself at 4:45 and 6:50 though.
MoonCrow How so?
@@MC473428 He starts the whole argument with the claim that it doesn't matter if he's an atheist or a Christian, because he assessed the evidence the same way, regardless. Then he says "I don't care what Christianity says" contradicting the entire first part of the video. I don't know if that means he wasn't a "real Christian" or not, but he's certainly not assessing evidence AS a Christian and apparently never was.
I can move on to 6:50 if you like.
MoonCrow No. that’s a strawman. Matt clearly states that he assessed evidence based on logical reasoning, which is independent of bias. The caller attempts to bypass logic in order to advance a faith based position. It’s at that point that Matt steps in and tells him that it doesn’t matter what Christianity says because it doesn’t. You can assess evidence logically and consistently irregardless of bias. He in under no obligation to assess the evidence as a Christian because any faith based assessment presupposes a God, which bypasses logic. If an anti-theist called into a Christian show and claimed that there was no God and that he believes so based on faith, that there would be no challenge? A Christian host could put all biases aside and pick apart the anti-theistic argument based on logic because a logical argument that is not fallacious and consultant is a more reliable pathway to truth that any faith based position. I’m not even going to touch the “not a true Christian” point because that’s such an obvious No True Scotsman fallacy that it doesn’t really warrant a response.
@@MC473428 ""'independent of bias"""
You can't scream "I don't care what Christianity says" and say you're not biased. The whole point of the call was that atheists and Christians would assess evidence differently. Matt has rejected huge amounts of evidence that Christians would accept, so he's not and really never was assessing evidence as a Christian. I don't have a problem with that, just be honest about it. It's like he's arguing to argue at the start.
""logical reasoning""
He actually doesn't use logical reasoning, he just calls it that. Different point though.
