On April 26th, 1982 a Monday evening performance of Dreamgirls at the imperial theatre on West 45th street. I was a 19 year old who had no idea what I was about to witness. I saw Jennifer Holliday and when it came to to end of act one I stood there frozen and could not feel my legs for 20 minutes listening to her perform this. I'm 58 now, and I can tell you her performance has stayed with me for 39 years to today. I was very fortunate to have witness Broadway history in the making. I'm so grateful to God for allowing to be there that night. No one will ever match her vocal skills to this song. Rumor has it that when she performed this every night, the audience who were seeing the musical Nine next to the Imperial theatre would hear her performance through the walls because of her powerful range.
@@spyari18 I was 16 years old, living in Los Angeles. I heard Jennifer on the Tony Awards and was hooked ever since. A year later, the show (and her) came to LA. I was there Opening Night. I have never, ever heard a voice quite like Jennifer Holliday. It was like pure electricity. She knew when to sing softly and, of course, when to belt it out. I love the show, including everything from the music, the storyline, the performers, the lighting, and even the costumes. Jennifer's voice has changed over the years. It is true that she cannot hit the same high notes as 40 years ago, but her voice is still powerful. She is a natural talent who came into the perfect role. I wish that there were a high quality video of the show available, but I am grateful for what's on UA-cam.
Thank you. This is the first time I heard the song from the actual, original on stage production. It is so powerful and special. Spectacular performance by Jennifer Holliday.
This video is a year old now so I doubt the uploader will read this comment. However the comments about her facial expressions frustrated me a little. One man mentioned that her face was strange but she sang well. She was moving her jaw and teeth to get those sounds. If she would have stood there trying to look cute the song could never be as emotional. The person who introduced the video said he heard the song sang by Chinese singers and the difference of the sound was very large. I bet the singer didn't give it her all like Jennifer Holiday did preferring to remain cute.
Happy June PRIDE month 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈♥️♥️♥️♥️very timely for our celebration as part of the lgbtq community. Did you know that ms holliday is very grateful to our community. Why? Look it up. There have been interviews on that. 💯🌹💃😘♥️🏳️🌈💖💕🙏🤗👏👌👍
I guess you are not interested in a appealing to an English-speaking audience, since none of your comments with each other are subtitled. The whole purpose of a reaction is to hear what the reactors are saying, and to be able to understand them. Is there a reason you don't use subtitles for your comments? Also, whoever the person was in the upper-left corner throughout the majority of the performance was so annoying and distracting. People don't watch a reaction to see a reactor lip-syncing to the entire song like they are the focus of the reaction. That is so immature, self-centered, and boring, show-off behavior. Good luck ☮️
Dude i think that is a big problem because of that Jennifer Holliday’s face is freaking me out. I had that feeling of my mind watching it on the main screen

I'm Asian myself but most asian singer's vocal performance feel fake to me
No one matches Miss Holiday!
Plus, she was on stage in a play. You must emote enough on a stage so the people in the top row or balcony can see you.

Watch this one if you want to see her sing it without the theatrical facial expressions: ua-cam.com/video/ixTLpdVgPY8/v-deo.html
