In Link's defence, he's an insecure teenager who learns to be better by the end while Corny's a grown man who knows where he stands. Also Amber at the end almost not becoming a product of her mother because she kinda actually wants to dance and have a good time.
Also also, I especially like the change from the original where Tracy won the pageant to Inez winning it and by the will of the people bringing about integration.

It also baffles me that the term colored is considered rude yet people of color isnt..to me they are the same its still separating us from white people based on the color our skin is supposed to be(because there are non white minorites that are just as pale as white people or paler) adding "people of" in front of it doesnt really soften the blow.

Also, it was always the white kids who were begging to do the show every year knowing damn well that it’s not a simple thing to do. Like, the disconnect was astronomical. I use to watch this movie *religiously* as a child and it meant even more to me as a black person myself--I love how Penny didn't fall for Seaweed because he was black but because she simply was attracted to him as a person and how when they visited the black neighborhood, they were willing to learn about and appreciate the culture instead of just stealing and using it to their advantage(like Elvis Presley did for example) and Tracey even marched with them! I can go on and on but gosh, what a great movie it is *P.S. If I’m not mistaken the reason Zac didn’t sing in the first high school musical was because it wasn’t written for his vocal range and they didn’t want to change it so they just got Drew Seeley to sing for him and then they corrected it for the second and third movies

One time my school put on a production of Hairspray and my school cast all the black characters with white actors. There was not a single black person in it. It defeated the entire point. It was telling the story about the segregation in TV. The actual protests that happened. It makes me so angry. Especially because black actors tried out.

~ EDIT: HEY GUYS!!! GREAT NEWS! I was able to edit out the offensive part of the video while still keeping it up for you guys to enjoy! YAY! Mayhaps youtube actually did something right after all. Anyway I am going to keep this part of my comment up as many of you still saw it and I still stand by the explanation I gave. It would be easy to just delete it all and pretend it never happened, but that's not taking accountability and I want it to be clear that I am not perfect nor know everything, BUT I am more than willing to learn and am open to conversations. I am still EMBARRASSED beyond explanation but I really appreciate you guys letting me fix the mistake and moving on. Thanks again, I love you A TON, and here's to more open communication in the future.

I love them all I think they all carried the movie but since John played a housewife in 2007 literally embodied being a woman for this role during a time which men would only dress up as woman in movies as a comedic plot so he definitely deserves the praise. Queen Latifah and Michelle are just always amazing to watch and they thoroughly played their characters and brought originality to the roles as well. James as corny was like superb. Personally all the characters really were amazing and each person brought something unique to the role 🙌🏼❤️
