    We bought a GH Platinum Hybrid Max in Sepember of 2023. It now has 7650 miles on it. Over the weekend I drove from South Lake Tahoe, CA to Albany, Oregon and back for a total 1135 miles - I set the odometer at 0 at the start of the trip and didnt clear the mpg between refueling. That trip went over several mountain passes, through rain and sleet, driving around town a bit. My speed was set at 67 miles an hour on the freeway.
    When I arrived back in SLT the mpg showed an overall average of 27.6 mpg. OUTSTANDING !
    Full-time AWD, 400lb of torque...oh what fun it is !!!!!! And...everyone stop worrying about that one cannot put more than 13-14 gallons when empty in the tank. Toyota purposefully left a greater margin of fuel in the tank so not to damage the Turbo.
    I still get 375 miles per tank (13-14 gallons) = 27.5 mpg

      Thanks for the details mpg over vast terrain. I'd like to know how the ac climate control is holding up while the engine is off, doe sit really keep it cool while the engine is off?

      @@krisshiffer6263 Ive never tried that particular scenario, but I often have to wait for my wife. Ill keep the engine on, however, the actual gas engine comes on sparingly during idling as the engine first takes the power from the hybrid, AC works great.
      the other day I was waiting in 95 degrees for a full hour for my wife to finish her eye appointment. It used up 0.1 gallons of gas with the AC on.

      Was about to lease one and then read from others that the real world highway range is pathetic, barely over 320 miles with A/C and some cargo. Not a good road trip vehicle.

    You can't expect a nearly 5000 lb vehicle to perform like a sports car. Toyota has too much equity in their base clientele and it would be too risky/foolish for them to design a "stand out in the crowd" vehicle in such a competitive segment. They cater to their Toyota clientele and do it well.

    The hybrid platinum/max has a larger engine and turbocharged whereas the xle and limited hybrid does not. However the xle and limited hybrid variants still get 5 mpg better than the hybrid max/platinum so you’ll get closer to 30 mpg at 70 mph.

  • @HunterXray
    @HunterXray 7 місяців тому

    Despite any shortcomings covered in this video, I believe the Grand Highlander will be selling very well.
    The XLE Hybrid is supposed to get about 12 MPG better fuel economy than my 2015 Forester. So the XLE Hybrid is a win for me in both MPG and getting a third row to boot.

    The hybrid highway mileage is roughly the same as the gas engines. City about 20% better. We average 28 on the highway and 24 city in the gasser. Have done as high as 30.9 highway at 50 to 55 mph for 100 mile trips on secondary roads.

    Has anyone had this problem with a 2024 GH with under 2000 miles on it? Passenger side headlight stopped working. We were going on a trip the next day so I tried changing the bulb myself as I've done with every car I've owned for the last 40 years. I couldn't twist the bulb out but my pliers left a few marks on the plastic. Finally, I read the owner's manual only to find that it says "see dealer". Are you kidding? Headlights have to be changed at the dealership?!! And by the way, the plastic marks from my pliers void the warranty and the dealer wants $1300 to change the whole light assembly because the headlight assembly part itself is over $1000. Yes, you read that right. A total of $1300 for a friggin' headlight. I should have gotten a used vehicle so I could do simple repairs myself. If this is Toyota's new business model to make outrageous profit on repairs then this may be my last Toyota!

      I had a 23 xle highlander which didn't like, I'm 5'9" and always hit my head when try to get out or lean forward for whatever reason. The driver door left armrest is so far away from the body that it's really awkward to rest your arm there. Also the sound the door makes and rattle it was just unbearable.
      Just checked out the grand highlander today, and all those issues have been fixed, not the highlander though, the highlander is still the same. Love the grand highlander. I like the way the doors open and close, left armrest is wider which gives you absolute comfort driving it. And it's slightly bigger inside. Everything just looks so much better than the highlander. I was looking at the traverse, but if you get the hybrid with the grand highlander, that's where I see the toyota being on top of chevy.
