I met a man named Vivic from India, he came to learn to downhill ski in park City Utah.
By the end of the week I had him following me down black diamond runs.
    Amazing determination to learn.
When he went home, he made me so jealous when he told me he went skiing in the Himalayas,

I actually wish the video had covered transportation. So much of the world pokes fun when Americans complain about $5 gasoline. But guys, I live in northeast NY State, okay? It would take me SIX HOURS just to drive to the western end of my state - and I won't have even LEFT MY STATE YET.
We also have ZERO public transportation in most places. Sure, NY City or certain other of our big cities have subway or city bus, but in most of the country, we don't have these - or if we do, they are very limited, rarely ever reliable on schedule. So we have to drive everywhere - and many of us are driving 40-60 minutes ONE WAY to get to work. Five or six days a week every week.
The land mass is huge. Most of our population exists along the borders of the country, and in the big cities. The rural areas are very open usually, and once you get into the interior of the country, it's often long stretches of miles and miles on the interstate highways without seeing other people (except maybe a few other drivers).
So, yeah. We're huge. :) We also don't have any one single official language. I grew up speaking English, learning bits of Spanish, Haudenosaunee and Canadian French from those around me. I have learned a few random bits of Mandarin from the Chinese immigrants around me in recent years, and bits of High Russian from Russian immigrants that live in our neighborhood as well. Three houses away from me used to live an elderly Italian widow. She understood English when she heard it, but could only pronounce her native Italian.
This is another sore point with many Americans. Much of the world criticizes us for mostly not being multi-lingual. Seriously, you can drive from France to Germany in less time than it takes for some of us to drive outside of our own state!! Let alone getting out of our country! I agree, Americans could do with a LOT more exposure to other cultures and people. The expense is out of reach of all but the rich. Most Americans you see overseas are highly affluent or in the upper rich groups here. They really are not representative of most of our people.
We are so big that you can have entirely different cultural groups just from one state to another, or one region to another. Appalachia is totally different from the Northeast; the Southwest is completely different from the plains; the west coast is different from the Pacific Northwest coast. The southeast is total different from the New England states. Each of the indigenous communities is different from the surrounding non-indigenous communities. And on and on. Even of all the English speaking Americans, you have multiple regional accents and dialects depending on where in the country you are.
The U.S. is like multiple countries all flying the same flag and pretending to be the same country. LOL. This is also why we often appear (and sometimes ARE) totally divided on different social or political issues. 😆 Imagine putting England, France, Germany, Russia, Finland and Sweden all into the same country and expecting it to function smoothly. NOPE NOT GONNA HAPPEN! 😂 That's kinda what we have over here. I'm honestly amazed it hasn't devolved into raw anarchy a long time ago. ;)

The size of a country may be interesting to some, but how you access those areas is much more interesting. In the US we like cars and roads. I actually think we like roads more than cars. The Federal government maintains the Interstate Highways, the states maintain state roads, the counties maintain county roads. There are a lot of roads in the US even if they are just gravel roads. Even the gravel roads are maintained.

Farmable land per person should be the standard instead of size. The US has ice, mountains, and desert. India has a lot of flat warm land with water and a good farming base. I would suspect India would have the highest "percentage" of farmable land. India has a great potential to increase its agriculture output to the highest in the world! This should be a great export year for India.

Ok. First, ya gotta slow down, just a bit. I thought I talked fast!?🤔
Also, these numbers are a bit misleading. The population of major Cities, like Chicago, at over 2M, are surrounded by Cities and Towns that add to the congestion. Like the ChicagoLAND area has 6M people.
Our Armed Services may be over 1M but, there are MANY who could be returned to Active duty when called upon. Our Military bases are far and wide but not ALL of them are fully equipped for conflict. Our Military budget (built on 95% of Citizens' taxes) also includes Foreign Aid to other Governments, Space Ventures and supplies and food for those in Need.
Cali and Texas and NY have a high GDP but, they contribute funds to the Federal Government to give assistance to poorer States like Kentucky and West Virginia. (Welfare States) This extra Money is also used during times of Natural Disasters! And we have plenty enough of those! Unless you live in the desert. But, there's still a chance of monsoons and flash floods...
Canadians ARE more welcoming and friendlier than Americans UNLESS you visit Quebec!! (The French Canadians) But, it is COLD AS HECK in Canada. So, ya better really Love Canada if ya want to live there.
One thing that is both good and frustrating about the U.S. is that there are Federal Laws that apply TO ALL and yet Separate State Laws that Citizens live by. So one State may not serve ones needs as much as another State might.
One thing I have found that foreigners are surprised by is that YES we DO have Ghettos and Slums! Our Industrial Areas are profitable but, not the prettiest.
Though Americans SEEM to be "Totally Free", Freedom itself, is Never "Free"! We have fought Wars over Hundreds of years to Gain and Keep the Freedoms we still hold. It is an everlasting struggle against those in our own government, who wish to squash us. We hope to defend Freedom around the Globe but, other Countries must recognize just how fragile our own Freedom actually is!! So, when people get here to "live" their dream, they best be prepared to pitch in, if you wanna keep those Freedoms.
My physical therapists are from India. One girl lives 25 miles away. I said, "Geez, Really? That far? You must hate the drive!" She told me that in India, it would take 2 or more hours, sometimes, to get that far. Where in America, it takes about a half hour, at most! If you do come to America, you WILL find your own likes and dislikes. I can't imagine home being anywhere else. But ya gotta learn to take the good with the bad!👍

Throughout U.S. history, most immigrants have been very poor and uneducated. When my great-grandparents came here from Italy in the 1910s, they had little or no money, spoke no English, and had just enough education to be literate. But a high percentage of immigrants from south Asia are highly educated and speak English. Go to any American university, hospital, or large company and you will find immigrants or the children or grandchildren of immigrants from south Asia, mostly India I imagine. I attended university in a small city in Vermont, a rural state that is still mostly white people of European ancestry, yet there are educated people from India living there, despite the terribly cold winters. I met a married Sikh couple who were visiting the U.S. to do "post-doctoral" study in astrophysics (they both already had doctoral degrees, but that wasn't enough education). It's my understanding that there is more economic opportunity now in India than there was in the first few decades after independence. Hopefully, this "brain drain" out of India has lessened, to the betterment of your country.

populated area is defined - substantially all US cities are surrounded by metropolitan areas
that effectively function as part of the city.

Just a little something that you can check out, Did you know that the size of Texas in the u.s. is so large, And it is just one state, That it can hold the world population in just that one state alone. That should give you some idea how big the u.s. really is. And I myself have gone from Atlantic City New Jersey to LA in California which is east coast to West Coast by bus. This trip that I have made several times has taken me three to six days depending on the weather, I have also flown the same distance which takes about 4 and a half to five hours.

PPP refers to buying in your own country with your own currency. Of course, no country buys everything within its own country (and with its own currency). Population density in the U.S. is not evenly distributed, of course. The eastern half of the country has a larger share, and much of the population is centered in major metro areas along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. These areas have high population density, while many of the states in center of the U.S. -- particularly in the western half, are fairly vacant. This partly reflects historical settlement patterns but also the lack of water resources across much of the West.

    • @recoil53
      @recoil53 2 роки тому

The north east of the country is the most densely populated - basically New England and the mid-Atlantic states.
The rest of the Eastern half is sparser.
