To be clear, a hospital will not refuse to treat you for payment. The opposite is true, they must offer treatment by law. They'll just bill you for a lot of money afterwards (unless you have insurance)

@@markplott4820 That’s a political issue and I’m going to follow this video's wise advice and not discuss it.
My only issue is when people think they can’t seek health care in the U.S. because they won’t be able to pay for it. If you are sick in the U.S. and don’t have health insurance you should still go to the hospital and they will still treat you.
It might drive you into bankruptcy because you can't pay the hospital bills you receive later. But they will still treat you. They must still treat you. By law on the Hospital’s part and by Oath on the physician’s part.

@@MrThomasC22 most hospitals have some sort of charity fund that serves to help pay for treatment of people that really can't pay it all.
Even still, if it weren't for administrators, you could pretty much slash hospital bills by almost 70%. Basically the thing that makes healthcare so expensive is the insurance itself and people doing frivolous lawsuits because of percieved bad treatment.

Don't forget that Europeans on average pay around $20,000 per year for their "free" healthcare. And we don't spend near that much from our paychecks for our healthcare. But yeah, foreigners will be taken care of even though they don't have insurance (if there is an emergency) and Americans will cover the cost for you. So if you are coming here for routine work then you won't get it for free but if you break a leg or something serious, they will fix you up for free since you don't have insurance and they can't collect from you later.

@@kevinerose Americans pay the highest per capita cost of any healthcare system, and a much larger share of the US economy goes toward healthcare than in Europe. We actually have the least efficient healthcare system on earth, and there is actually no economic justification for it at all.

I agree with most of these points except for a few. Firstly, while I agree you don't need to stay in the most fancy hotel, please don't go for the cheapest either! You could end up in a very dirty, rundown, and potentially even dangerous place. It's a usually a safe bet to book a hotel in the middle price range, and check reviews online first.
Secondly, he's right about cigarette smoke not being accepted, but I'd add marijuana is not as universally accepted in all of the US as he made it out to be. Most Americans are offended by "bad smells" in general, so personal hygiene is also very important.
As far as responding to "how are you?" I think it's always best to respond with something like, "I'm good, how are you?" or "I'm fine, thanks."
Sometimes the other person may not respond, or they may go on to initiate "small talk" If you aren't familiar with this phrase, it's when people engage in light conversation on the street/ public places even if they are complete strangers. These conversations are usually pretty short and about things like the weather or sports, but if they know you are from out of town, they may ask "where you are from?" and "how are you enjoying your trip?"

Love your videos! As to the gun question, there's a huge divide between urban and rural- don't forget that America has many, many dangerous animals you might meet outside the city at random times. (you might want to look up a video about dangerous animals in America) And the size thing is real. I used to work for a bus company. Back in the 70s, they had deals with European travel planners, where they sold unlimited mileage tickets along with the plane tickets- the bus tickets were good for a month, you could just get on any bus. I worked the midnight shift, and the NY-LA bus made a stop here. I would get Europeans, blurry eyed, who would ask if they were LA yet. When I said no, they would say "But we've been on the bus for 8 hours!" I would point to the map on the wall and say, "Here's NY where you landed. Here's where you are (about 3 CM away) Here's LA (about 12 CM).

But I'd also venture the notion that people that grew up watching the, Western Genre, have a subconscious notion about not having their gun hand blocked so that they can successfully quick draw a handgun, or a pistol if you prefer, even if they are not so equipped! So many characters have said, "Don't get near my gun hand, I might need to use it!" 🤠

LOL! He's totally right! This is how things are in the USA. I hate being asked how I'm doing instead of just a "Hi" or "Hello" greeting. Even if you try to answer them with how you are doing, they ignore your answer and just keep going with the conversation because it was just meant as a greeting. If they catch me when I'm in a bad mood, I'll reply with "Why do you need my current medical status by asking how I'm doing?" LOL! And yes. Tipping your food servers at restaurants and at bars does improve how much better they are at serving you. It's not based on uniformity. It's based on how much money you give them as tips to get better service from them. When I used to go to bars for alcohol, it was very expensive, but I would get great service because I would tip generously. :)

As far as tipping is concerned it also creates a incentive for good service. TIP stands for To Insure Promptness and while it is most often given after service is rendered, in some cases it is part of the ongoing service. If you are out at a bar and want good service from your bartender or waiter, tip them good when they bring the first round of drinks. They will remember that and be watching for your table to need a fresh round. They are also more inclined to extend service past the point other people would be cut off.
We also have strict laws for alcohol sales here and they vary by state and county. In my state anyone that sells or serves alcohol must be 21yo and have a licence acquired by taking a server's class. If they violate any of the laws associated with that licence like reat offenses of overservice or selling alcohol to a minor they can lose their license to work and even face criminal charges. So this is why people get IDed even if they have grey hair.
Here is an example of the danger for workers: Liquor Control Board agents sent a young man dressed in construction attire into the bar I worked at one afternoon to buy cigarettes. Our establishment was a strict 21 and over but the age for buying cigarettes is only 18yo. Despite this he came to the bar and asked for change for the machine. I IDed him and discovered he was 20yo and immediately sent him out the door where he walked across the parking lot and got into a car with state plates and an older woman driving. It was a sting operation and I immediately called all my friendly bartenders nearby to warn them. If I had given him change it would have been the same as giving him a beer because I served him and allowed him to make a purchase within a 21 and over establishment. I could have lost my job and been banned from working in the industry, been fined and even criminally charged, and the owners could have faced heavy fines and even a temporary closure.

Yes, I would say it is not possible to see the entire U.S. in a single trip, unless your trip is a month long or more. Further, if you just pick the most famous places or cities (New York, Los Angeles or Disney World), you will miss a lot of what defines the country and makes it unique. Yes, you will have a good time in those cities and places, where there are a lot of things to do. But very interesting cities and very beautiful scenery (mountains, beaches) are spread all over the country. That is also true for the food. Each area has its own unique cuisine and specialized dishes. Basically, there is no substitute for doing advanced research and then making informed decisions about where to go. Often, it's the lesser-known regions and cities that are less touristy, more genuine and less crowded.

I don't agree 100% with the advice about people saying "How are you". If it's someone you don't know, then yes, it is standard to answer with something like "Good, how are you?". But, if it's someone you know well, such as a close friend, it is acceptable to be more honest about the question (ie. "I've been better"). Random strangers don't want to hear about your troubles, but friends help each other when they're feeling down.
And yeah, the cost of healthcare is one our biggest problems here. If you don't have insurance through your employer (or Medicare if you are retired), you're pretty much out of luck. We need to fix that.

A couple years ago cigarette sales became limited to people 21 or older in the US. A lot of places in big cities won't ask for ID if you obviously look old enough, but many places (especially around universities) check everyone. And I'm not saying you're the type of people who do this, but a lot of people get offended when they have to show their ID and take it out on the cashier who's just doing their job. Stereotypically, it's middle age or older white people who do it. Practically everyone else is fine with just showing ID and moving on with their lives.
And no one in the US answers "How are you?" with "How are you?" We generally respond with "fine, thanks. How are you?" We actually give an answer, even if it's not the truth. We just don't expect a long explanation about what's going on in your life.

You sure can visit much of America in one trip if you have the time to go on a long vacation and money pay for gas and hotel rooms unless you sleep in the car or rent an RV. America is a big country but Americans aren't afraid of long drives, going on a road trip cross country is an American past time including staying at motels, camping out, or sleeping in the car. A regional tour is more easy, but going for an across the country trip and even looping all the way back to where you started from is something Americans have done for decades. If you do that you will not just see one region and can stop and see local spots of interest in differing states of differing regions that all have their own flavor. Like he says though it would take a long time like many weeks off to do such a trip.

Mark 16:32. I was alive when certain minimum ages were raised and it frustrated and annoyed a lot if people that had been waiting to be legal at 18, and then suddenly had to wait some more, to be 21 and legal. Those that do something illegally anyway, ignore such laws, so they weren't quite as perturbed. Like those that, "dine and dash", and "shoplift", and ignore speed limits, et cetera.
But some laws were put into place because of lazy parents that created a loophole that needed closing!
Lately I've seen posts about, "remote controls", that were pictures of children viewing television. As funny as that is, there was, "remote control shopping", too!
At big stores it wasn't as practical, because you couldn't see your children and guide them from your vehicle. But at convenience stores with big front windows, parents in vehicles would guide their children by pointing at stuff, if the child was looking back and pointing at an item. Grandpa, used to make my brother and I, go inside and buy stuff for him, like "Prince Albert Tobacco", "Bull Durham Cigarette Paper", "Coors Beer", or whatever, and if we did so, we might get a treat too, like a candy bar, bubble gum, soda pop, a toy, or a comic book. My brother and I honored such a system, and we didn't cheat. Unlike some I know, that sample the stuff intended for their parents. Or as teenagers, just lie outright about who they were buying stuff for! So with such abuses, at least locally, certain laws had to be passed. In the 1990s, if not late 1980s, to help curb, if not stop, minors from smoking, the "Age 18", restriction was imposed. 🧐

The reason the US doesn't just switch over to the metric system is partly because of how much it would cost to change all the speed limit and distance signs across the entire country. At least, that's a big reason now. I forget exactly why we didn't agree to do it in the first place.

We have had a massive anti-tobacco campaign going on here in America ever since the dangers of nicotine products have come out. What we mean by don’t smoke is, don’t do it in public or around those you don’t know are okay with it. Nicotine addiction and use is still very much widespread here, but our laws and campaigns against smoking in public have been pretty deeply rooted for the past couple generations. Marijuana use is still pretty controversial as not every state has adopted its use, and on the federal level it is still constituted as a schedule 1 drug, making it a felony, technically, to possess, distribute, and use at the federal level. That said, state sovereignty is recognized at appropriate levels, and we don’t have federal law enforcement running around civilian neighborhoods all the time.
We also have a pretty colorful history with alcohol. Previous to the 21 law, even after Prohibition ended, it was up to each state to determine what age of legal purchase for alcohol was. The Federal system then stepped in and threatened to cut the highway funding of any state that did not raise their drinking age to 21. Needless to say, the states stepped in line.

It's a matter of scientific fact, that tipping increases wages for the employee, over what they would be paid by the employer, because Americans are generous, and the patrons are not as focused on cost, as the person trying to run a business. Tipping results in higher wages, and better service. It's a great system, and nobody is being harmed by it. To the contrary, many wealthy patrons tip very well, as a form of charity to the public.

One b/c they paid just under half of the minimum wage of whatever State your living in. And two, the Restaurants want to make sure the Customers have a good time and come back. And to do that they need happy, cheerful, sweet Waitress/Waiters. And to BE a Waitress/Waiter you have to have that 'Temperament' to DEAL with the general public. So it's really kind of 'Pigeon Hold/Employee Hostage kinda job. Cause who wants to pay a sour, moody person a full wage and have ppl NOT come back, compared to what I just explained up there? Also, I live in the same State as this guy. More inland then the coast of Mystic, I will say though you say The Metric System is "Simple!" That is what us American's think of OUR System.
