  • From 2011 to 2017 Phil Heath was the boogeyman of open bodybuilding. With an all time great back and muscle bellies so round he looked cartoonish…Phil was practically unbeatable.
Many had tried and many had failed to take him down, and although he wasn’t perfect on or off the stage…there was no denying his greatness.
In this retrospective let's go back and relive Phil Heath’s reign of terror…one of the greatest title runs in the history of bodybuilding.

That was an unforgettable speech by “The Gift”.
    It moved me to almost
    shed a tear . . .
Almost. Because it wasn’t all about Phil Heath. Phil made the speech to include all of us who might not have the confidence to try and go after one’s own personal dreams.

I have much respect for Jay Cutler.
He gave Phil heath the platform that opened opportunities for business and sponsorships.
Only legends do that to upcoming athletes.
Not for getting about the fact that he defeated Ronnie Coleman after consistently losing not giving up until he conquered the beast.

Lot of people talk about Phil's defeat by Shawn but forget all the times Shawn got beaten and Shawn was just a one time wonder; not in the league of Phil. The problem with Phil was the fans.. Fans wanted a change of pace, just because they got bored with just one person dominating. NO ONE has replaced Phil since his last show, no one is consistent.

no disrespect to Phil Heath but he was too narrow and too small for Yates and Coleman while not even being more conditioned than them.
There's what we fans think looks good/better and what we'd like to look like, and then there's what's ACTUALLY better according to the judging critera.
Mass, width and conditioning > any amount of completeness or aesthetics you can possibly have.
Shawn Ray was more complete than Yates, he won nothing.

I feel since i do admit this is where my destsin for phil was back then
Was the fact i just wanted kai to win because his life was so much sadder and rougher he felt more like many of us in the struggle more relatable. And i treated the sport as a storyline and not as a sport.
Now that im older im able to separate both and admit phil is the peak of the sport and i dont think there gonna be any higher than him
The map of the sport is. Arnold, yates, ronnie and phil. At least imo these are the one that are the peak per era in the sport. Think of it as a each is a big ass tree that help spawn more trees until a bigger one showns up etc.

Phil is not seen as he should as a bodybuilder compared to other champions because he's not from early 2000's, 90's, etc. His structure is narrow, but everything else, in his prime, is top tier. I think that prime Phil could only be beat by Ronnie Coleman when he was winning his mr olympia titles. Maybe Jay in 2006. But social media culture made it harder for people from any sport be seen as they used to be seen years ago. His prime version must be at least in top 3 greatest physiques put on as a Mr. Olympia winner. If we could put prime ronnie, prime phil and prime jay, these are the top 3 that could not be surpassed by any olympia winnet until now. Change it up the order of this top 3, but not even dorian could beat these guys in their prime in my opinion.
