    Hello, can you explain perhaps how to make these old decorations on the straight razor blades? What is it the technique that is used? Thank you.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving

      Great question Ed! I have been looking at this, and have asked experts how those old blade decorations would be made, and more than likely they are acid etched into the blades using wax, stitchers, or some kind of tape to protect the rest of the blade. Today this will be done using lasers.
      Thanks for your great questions and thanks for watching! :) Have a good day, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

    I always enjoy your videos. I have been struggling to get my eBay razors to shave. Your video on geometry helped me understand that ALL of my razors had problems. I am working through correcting that! I have a question on the 3k stone; after your normal routine, you said it needed more. What did you see that indicated that? Thanks! -Rick

    Do you angle the razor because your trying to avoid hitting the stabilizer? How much pressure are you putting on the razor? Thank you!

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  Рік тому +2

      Great question @snowboarder92120 :) I do angle the razor to avoid the stabilizer, and to have a more vertical scratch pattern while keeping the complete blade on the stone. I'm using a good amount of pressure when setting the bevel.
      Thanks for your great question, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good weekend, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

    Dear Sir-Did someone locally and in person teach you how to set the bevel hands on? I only ask as I tried for 4 years with good stones and still cannot properly set the bevel. I can , and do, sharpen my folding knife, kitchen knives and machetes, but no luck with my straight razors. Thank you for any specific details-John in Texas

      Great question John! ;) No one showed me "how to set the bevel" in person. I watched a lot of UA-cam videos. I'm very spacial and mechanical so setting the bevel came somewhat naturally to me. The biggest thing with setting the bevel is keeping the spine and edge on your honing stone at the same time, never lift the spine when honing a straight razor both the spine and edge have to be touching at the same time all the time. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
      Thanks for your great question and thanks for watching! :) Have a good evening, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

      Javier I charge $25/Straight Razor plus USPS shipping normally $6.70-7.25 and I will include some of my special razor wax. You could ship everything in one envelope just use some bubble wrap and painter tape to secure the straight razors for shipping.

    I'm new to honing. Is it ok to wipe the blade edge on a towel? Does that not ruin the edge or roll it?

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  7 років тому +2

      I like to use an old towel as you can cut the towel and normally I will pinch the blade wiping from the heel to toe. But sometimes I use a wiping motion starting a the spine to the edge with little to no pressure. You will need to be mindful about how you clean the edge of your straight razor as it's very sharp and delicate at the same time. Great question, thanks for watching! :)

    Question sir, you don’t grind off the heel on that one straight razor ur sharpening?
    I’m having issues with uniform spine ware, which is uneven and went through the process from 1k,3k,6k then finished it on 8k.
    It doesn’t shave as it supposed to be.
    I did not grind the gold dollar razor that I just got.
    Please help.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +2

      Great question Kevin! ;) This is the ZY Grandslam and it already came with the shoulder ground off. The uneven spine wear is totally normal especially on a Gold Dollar straight razor. What you're looking for is an even bevel the spine isn't that important. You should grid down the shoulder it will help make the honing process better and easier. In this video on "Preparing the Straight Razor Blade for Honing" I'm showing the process I used, click here to watch ua-cam.com/video/c6G2p3QujB8/v-deo.html. Hopefully that will help, please let me know how you get a log with your Gold Dollar honing.
      Thanks for your great question and take courage you'll get it, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good day! :) #Heart

      Adventures In Wet Shaving I’ll be sure to look at the link u sent me, also does it matter if I have razor wobble when I put it flat and press on either end it does like a Teeter tot?
      Don’t u have to get the spine with even ware so the edge can be straight?

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +2

      Great question Kevin! ;) It does matter if your razor is wobbly. Have you seen "Why You Can't Hone a Straight Razor"? If not click here ua-cam.com/video/V2JRzhK2gVs/v-deo.html to see how to correct your razors geometry. The spine wear does need to be completely flat from the toe to the heel, but that doesn't mean it will be even wear. You will have some spots that are larger and some that are smaller, but from the toe to heel you razor will be flat. Please let me know how you get a long. #Heart

      I followed your videos that you sent me a link for, and I made some progress but when I got done the blade is pulling my facial hairs instead of being buttery smooth.
      I sent you a message through Facebook and sent pictures since I can’t send you them here.
      I hope to hear from you through Facebook as well to receive any input.
      Thanks again
