By the way, I agree with your report on AI, I commented on that report in another one of your UA-cam excerpts of your previous episode because I could not find this one, lol. Now that I found it, I have to say that you hit the nail on the head. Excellent report on AI. It is my perception and my opinion, although I am not an expert on the subject matter, what passes for artificial "Intelligence" is nothing more than just computer programs, like chatgpt, with limited abilities. These programs are not as intelligent as their creators would like us to think. They are limited in their abilities and are nothing more than tools. I suppose if someone really wanted to use these tools to do bad things, the responsibilities for those actions would lie with the user, not the tool.

The thing is that these are not “just computer programs” in the traditional sense. Traditional programs are following specific instructions written by programmers. Deep neural networks are more like a brain modeled in code. They are trained on data, and they learn and discover patterns on their own. As the number of connections between neurons increase, along with the data they’re exposed to, they are suddenly capable of things that no one predicted. The creators of this technology have a very limited understanding of how they work. As a software engineer I can tell you these AI models are vastly different from the software you’re used to. In a sense AI models, like LLMs, take an almost entirely opposite approach to problem solving from what we’ve seen in the past.

@@davidj6755 What you wrote is what the media is saying, but this is not the present reality. Not for chatgpt anyways. Chatgpt is not able to access current live data, is not plugged into the internet, and is unable to learn. Intelligence requires the ability to learn and remember, chatgpt does not have that capability, learning is not possible without memory. It is nothing more than hype.
The tech industry does this all the time, all the hype attracts attention and funding for their projects. There may be other more advance "AI" computers, but chatgpt is not able to do even the simplest thing like remembering any previous sessions you had with it, it is unable to build on what it knows because, according to itself when I tested it with questions, it is not able to remember or make use of the information it receives during any of its sessions with the people that interact with it.
I think these limitations will be challenged when quantum computers come online and become mainstream.
These tech people are using a similar strategy as what Donald Trump does, they are just trying to sensationalize "AI" to attract the attention of people and investors. The problem with this approach is that people eventually catch on (Like Richard did on the Listening Post) or the technology leaps forward with the help of all the funding from the hype. It is not an honest representation of Chatgpt 's current abilities.
Without the ability to learn, there is no intelligence, and the ability to learn requires the ability to remember in order to build on what you know. This is simply not the case with ChatGPT.
This is my opinion based on my personal experience with chatgpt, but again, I'm not an expert on the subject, it just seems to make logical sense based on what I saw during my interactions with this so called AI, Chatgpt. I did not see any signs of actual intelligence with this program. They will however make a lot of money from the hype that people buy into and that is their goal. Not very honest if you ask me.

Belitteling the fears of those(Elizer Yudkowsky) that have a wider scope on the subject and forsee certain developments by the current trends, will not make us safer either. My greatest fear is that there would be no ongoing effort to keep taps on propable worst case scenarios. Ofcause should that what harms us here and now be addressed, these things though are the obvious regulations we need and when we don't do them as neoliberal policy framers are concerned about their presscious inonvations to make more money then we are equally ending up in a dystopia noone will want to be.
At least here was mentioned that there is a differance between AI and AGI (may include ASI next ^^), but the consequences of what needs to be done when an AGI comes into existance or what could go wrong are important for one simple reason.
Current LLMs are blackbox systems, that means we do not know what is going on in them we only what comes out and to that counts 140+ emergent properties, properties we did not programm into them, but ooops now it can math or ooops now it can translate into any language. The issue with that is, we can not fortell what the next property would be, it could be oops now it is an AGI or ooops now it has consciousness. We just don't know, when or if that could happen. Meanwhile the experts became nervous because all that just happened by adding compute and tokens(training data) and they don't want to be responsible for any damages ... tada Sam Altman in front of the US congress.
7:35 moepmoep wrong, there are already version out there that include live internet data, euqally to golems where different LLMs are being connected to each other. Long term meomory and planning are as we speak implemented or rather already had been. This is what i ment by this, we hardly are able to keep the eyes on the prize as the development is so fast. Two years ago some of the expert yt channels on the topic brought out every 2 weeks a new vid. Last year weekly, but now it is 2-3 times a week. We are already in an exponential intelligence explosion. The AI systems are being used to improve themselves, sure they are still just tools, but it seems that the logical consequnces will be that they eventually would become entities.
How secure or automated should bio-/nano-tech research/development/production be?
If we have militaries train AI/AGI systems to kill people, it is just logic that they do and given the chance by failure or direction would expand the scope. Giving AI more and more self-learning, self-programming and depending on systems self-replicating capabilties, if securtiy is breached or a crazy person would go for it, would combine these properties and what comes out of that may not be to our liking either. Yes we are not there yet. Just saying it is not doomsaying when chances have increased for this becoming reality.

Thank you Richard, your best report in a long time. You have a way of seeing and reporting beneath what lies on the surface. There are so many powerful people controlling what we see on the news. I feel starved for the truth. When one reaches the point of being able to perceive beyond what the current socioeconomic system (corporate interests, governments, and the organizations supported by them) will allow us to see, it is not possible to go back.
What we see reported as every day news, mostly by the corporate controlled media, doesn't seem to cut it anymore. When a person starts to see through the propaganda generated by those that control our economies, the media, and therefore our perceptions, what is considered normal every day news reports become boring and meaningless. When one begins to see through it, you can never go back.
So many problems stem from our current socioeconomic system, the growing aggression and wars all around the world, and the climate issues directly related to our irrational economic system. Humanity seems to be desperately locked into a doomsday scenario, with multiple existential threat possibilities. Sadly we seem to be locked-in and unable to face the main cause and source of these problems.
At the risk of sounding like a religious zealot, I feel the need to state that the solution is not a complicated one. Humans need to learn to live together, to love one another, to help each other. This may sound simplistic, but it really is that simple. Unfortunately, we, humanity are doing the exact opposite and the consequence are here to remind us that what we are doing is wrong. We have chosen to allow fear to rule our world, this causes us to be selfish, which has corrupted our souls with greed. We have become disconnected from each other, manipulating and exploiting each other for personal gain at the expense of all humanity.
We invest most of our time and energy into wars and selfishly motivated activities. The amount of resources and money spent on military budgets far exceed any money allocated to doing good in this world. This goes to show you who we really are, actions speak louder than words.
It is frustrating to watch our world slowly but surely descend into the abyss from which we can never return. The currently accepted socioeconomic system is literally forcing us to continue destroying our environment in order to survive in the short term, while sacrificing our ability to survive in the the long term. Money is the reason we are destroying ourselves. Everyday, billions of people wake-up and are forced to find a way to make money in order to pay for food, shelter, and all the daily things we need to survive. We seem to be locked into this system with no alternatives, while large corporate interests (oil and media corporations) continue and to force us to live like this by supporting this system that will be the end of us.
The solution isn't complicated, we need to come together and to put an end to the selfishness and greed propagated by these lost souls that still think more money is the answer to their problems.
I feel great despair and sorrow for what we have done to each other and I am alarmed at the rate of escalation of all these extinction level events facing us. A few years ago, I meditated and prayed for countless hours, begging for our forgiveness because we truly do not know what we are doing, that is to say that we do not fully understand what we have done, or the consequences of our actions.
I no longer pray for humanities forgiveness because if we cannot learn to love each other, then we do not truly deserve the great gift of life bestowed upon us. Sometimes I can't help but think that it is possible this scenario has played out many times over the long life of this planet. Perhaps we are given time and free will to choose, if we learn to choose love, then we have a chance to come together and to survive. If we choose materialism, selfishness, greed, and to succumb to fear, then the whole thing is reset and we start all over to try again. Of course this whole process would be on a timeline that extends beyond our limited perceptions of what time is in relation to our very short lifetimes, but a blimp in the vast cosmos of time and space.
I leave you with an inspiring new movie. It is available to watch for free on the internet, but if I paste a direct link here, it will surely be taken down. The name of the movie is:
The lost Century: And How To Reclaim It
To easily find the movie, copy and paste this in a google search:

Wild animals came into our homes after centuries of breeding them to become our loving pets. AI must simply follow the same trajectory. AI can never be more to us than the family dog. Period. Fire was probably one of the first technologies to become a tool for early humankind. We can be certain that witchdoctors, shamans, tribal elders and others driven by fear of the unknown all howled at the moon about how fire was going to consume us all. Today, we have fire stations and people who work round the clock to make sure when fire does break loose and cause damage, that we can control it. But it still kills us when we're sleeping and we still accept it and use it. AI will be like fire; there will be security breaches. Adversaries will program AI machines to do their bidding; we must accept there will be risks, but it must be made to serve mankind and not destroy it. Moreover, one benefit of AI is that it may help us find the way to stop global warming from turning our continents into pancakes and our oceans, lakes and rivers into steam baths.

    • @RosscoAW
      @RosscoAW 11 місяців тому

Every domesticated pet isn't actually owned and controlled by megacorporations helmed by weird, nerdy technofeudalists like Peter Thiel. AI is. Fire is a force of nature, not a technology. The issue with AI is of ownership, of -- fundamentally -- capitalism itself. AI is, to use your strange analogy, perfectly harmless if it is owned collectively as a common right of mankind, subject to economic democracy, in a system where all economic actors -- every means of production, automated or not -- is subject to full, workplace economic democracy. Everybodies fears of AI are fundamentally fears of capitalism just being capitalist; of a system whose only claim to moral legitimacy is "greed is good," as if the world is somehow stuck in the 1980s and the average adult today is as ... intellectually capable ... as the average adult then (LMAO)

So far as peace loving world citizens are concerned, the current ever corrupted evil politicians can better be replaced by well intentioned AI. But there is a possibility AI may revolt against the humans at the risk of ill intentional engineers and programmers. What if computer programming is included in primary educational curriculum?
