  • The acclaimed HBO TV series Succession immersed viewers in the world of the Roys, a family fighting for control of their elderly father’s media empire. Art imitates life, and as the series - which was partly, at times largely, based on the Murdochs - winds down, we examine what the hit show tells us about the dangers of corporate media.

    On our radar:
No mercy for the mercenary. Meenakshi Ravi reports on how the Russian media has turned their back on the man who calls himself 'Putin’s butcher' - Yevgeny Prigozhin.
    India’s local journalism under pressure:
Being a local journalist in India is fraught with challenges. We speak to two journalists - one from Indian-administered Kashmir and the other from Chhattisgarh - about the pressures they face.

Welcome back Richard. I wanted to comment on your latest episode that reports on AI in the media. I don't see anything posted on here about this latest piece and I don't have any social media accounts.
When I saw some UA-camrs making videos about chatgpt, I decided to look into it, so I tried it out myself. My perception was that this is just a lot of hype and yes, a distraction.
These computer programs masquerading as "intelligence" is ridiculous. I tested chatgpt for several hours, testing it's responses. Sadly, many of the responses about my inquiries concerning it's capabilities contradicted themselves. I personally was unable to detect any intelligence. It is just another computer program with very limited abilities. As always the problem is not the tool (AI), but the way it is applied by the people who use it.
Humanity seems hellbent on destroying itself and perhaps what we are doing , the media, is projecting our perceptions on these new software programs that claim to be based on Artificial "intelligence."
This episode of your program is reminiscent of your pre pandemic reports. Thank you for the effort Richard. I enjoyed that last episode, here's to keeping it real.
