- I was honored to be asked to supply a drum solo soundtrack for the Pearl Drums 75th Anniversary Time Line Video. They had an initial outline cut idea using the drum solo I did at Drumeo in ’17. I used that rudimental theme but in 3/4 time and took the ideas elsewhere, but still dancing in and out of the main theme in 3/4 and 4/4. This was an honor and I hope you enjoy the 7 minute improvisation. Thanks to Eric Dorris for filming, and to everyone at PMI and Pearl world wide. Happy anniversary! (I'm using Masterworks Studio Recipe with Maple/Gum shells and Black Limba in Black Burst finish with gold hardware. The snare is a Masterworks hybrid: Brass shell, Reference Pure Lugs, triple flanged hoops, Masterworks badge, all rose gold plated. Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Promark Drumsticks, Audix microphones.)

Mr. Sucherman you are one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE DRUMMERS!!! You just seem like a friend I would have been hanging with during my days growing up in Schaumburg Il. Great guy, Great attitude, Unbelievable Talent. Seeing you play at Guitar Center several months ago, in Lake Forest, Ca. was one of the best times I have had in years. Styx id still one of the best bands EVER!!!!! God Bless you, your health, and your Family. Love you Maaaaan:)

One of my favourite solos a masterpiece. They stylistic difference between you and Neil Peart with the same perfection of rudimentary skill. I would love to listen to you and him speak on the art.

I only "discovered" Todd about 2 years ago. He has become, almost overnight, my favorite drummer. Neil will always be #1, but Todd is a FANTASTIC example of how good you can be when you practice (and I'm sure some natural talent doesn't hurt either) and love doing it. Not to mention, he's my age..... Fantastic piece, Todd. Thanks for sharing it.

What a solo! Love the sound / tuning of the toms. And the solo is very musical and not boring at all for a long drum solo despite the fact it's technical too... Todd Suchermann is one of the greatest nowadays !

Can only add one or two things to all the great Comments here. I love the way Todd hits a crash cymbal with his right hand. Looks like he is pitching a baseball. So athletic. And I took a 6 month course with him online on Drumeo in 2019. He said he was not very good at double pedals on the bass drum. What? That was amazing toward the end. Also as some have said Todd is a very humble and nice human being. He has earned the right to be an a..hole being so talented and musical. But he is not. Just wow.

I hear the homage to your solo from Drumeo, I hear the homage to Mr. Smith. I see everything that you have taught us in Rock Drumming Masterclass, all of which we are all still working on trying to play at half that speed! Wow! I first heard the triplet bass drum section at the end from Steve Smith on the Journey album Captured. You just took that to the moon! So awesome! You never cease to amaze me. Such an inspiration.
I heard the same thing, and recognized that he was playing a portion of Steve Smith's drum solo off of Captured too. Glad someone pointed that out.
I would love to see a gathering of the great drummers of today get hooked up to a brainwaves machine to see how everything lights up in the brain as they play. Todd, Terry Bozzio, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, etc....and compare the different readouts from the various drummers.

I saw Todd in a clinic a few years back. Had to reset my jaw at the end! Such a talent who makes the drums sound so incredible musical.

I took my 13 year old son to the Cylclorama tour in Loredo, TX. Dynamite show. I’ve seen Styx 7 times since then. I know you were with Styx before that, I loved the compilation you arranged, I’d love to hear it again.

Yeah what I like with this solo (drum solos can get very boring most of the time) is that it's incredibly musical. That's what it's all about: Beyond great technique, chops and stamina, his musicality is what makes it so special to listen to.
