Getting on stage and feeling, "Alone at last." I'm a part-time musician who plays to maybe 20 people a gig a couple times a month, and I have that same feeling. It's 60 minutes of total focus and pure communication. It's active meditation. There's no feeling like it.
Todd was the first drum clinic I ever went to, and I had no clue who he was. Now I’m a lifelong fan, and seeing his successes throughout the decades makes me so proud! Lucky us now for what he’s doing with y’all at Drumeo. So cool!!
I’ve seen Todd twice w Styx. The guy was just on fire both nights. He gives everything he’s got on every song and drives that band like a freight train.
I had no idea who Todd was 2 months ago. Got back into drumming and found Drumeo and Todd all over the place. I'm 3 years younger than Todd, and I was a pretty big STYX fan in my youth. Paradise Theater is STILL my favorite STYX album and one of my all-time favorites period. I watched "Return to Paradise" 3 or 4 months back and had no idea who Todd was but holy crap, was he on fire..... So, at the end of this video when he mentions that he's playing with a band he SAW PERFORM 3 times as a kid himself, that hit home. I'm wishing I'd gotten back into it a LOT sooner, but I am DAMN GLAD I got back into it now before it's too late to do something about it..... Great video, thanks for producing and sharing.
My wife and me had a meet and greet with the guys a few years ago in Peoria, Illinois. Those guys are an absolute hoot. You can tell the guys how you want them to pose for a funny photo and they'll do it. As rock stars for decades, they're not the least bit pretentious. Plus the concerts are stellar. Still got their chops. Next time they're in town we'll pay the money for another meet and greet. They're worth every penny.
I got to see Styx earlier this year. I will never forget it!!!! Todd Succhermann was just awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are no words that can be explained how awesome the show was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys are so down to earth and just happy to still be doing what they love to do. And we are happy they continue out there touring... Blessings guys, keep rockin' out...🎶🙂🎸🥁🎹🎤
a pro's pro...just a nice guy with otherworldly skills...dude can play a Dream Theater gig, jump into New Orleans jazz w/Galactic, then onto Weather Report, a Pepsi jingle, sub for Journey, do a drum clinic, and kiss his wife & kid...extreme talent. hope they do a few Babys tunes w Ricky Phillips! The Babys are the greatest band people forgot
I hope I get to do this once before I die. I've toured before but never with a full crew that's sets everything up and really works together with the band as a unified team. The thought of that is intoxicating!
I met him in June at his masterclass here in Denver. He personally showed me the Tony Williams grip ( I was struggling very badly and he noticed ) He’s a stickler for the old school Method of drumming but all in all I learned so much from him 🤙 🥁
I like Good very much. Monster drummer, great sense of humor, fun of great advice, and he has such a great attitude and gratitude for playing in Styx. So many older bands can be seen as going through the motions, playing their hits for the millionth time, and Styx have those hits too. But to to make it exciting and fun and fresh can be tough and Todd always brings it. Love this guy. And Styx can still rock a show. I hope my favorite bands are still playing like years from now.
What an absolute god. I would love to spend one hour with Todd and just hear some crazy stories and laugh. I wish I could be 1/100th as good as him. Holy cow.
I never cared for Styx that much- ever. I was more of a Kansas fan. But that changed....w/ Todd Sucherman on the skins. I think he has reinvigorated the band- made their stuff feel fresh again. He ROCKS.
TS is a great drummer! Tommy Shaw and JY are guitar legends too! Anyone remember the first time they heard “The Grand Illusion? “ Seeing Styx live is the business..
POlice escort. Not too many bands get that I bet. And all for the Rock and Roll - the show must go on! Hell Yeah! Todd's kinda in the stratoshere when it comes to drumming. Alot of people overlook him, and I don't know why, he truly is one of the great drummers of all time. And sure seems to be a helluva a nice guy on top of it. Anyone that has his signature sticks with the date of his anniversary is a standout - R and R - kinda guy.
I've seen my share of "Tribute Bands" and many "a few original members" bands from 70's 80's but STYX, by far, is the hottest and strongest from the era gone by that I have EVER had the privilege to see and hear. And Todd REALLY sets the bar and brings it! Twice I've caught their show in recent years and bar none of all the other many shows I've seen STYX sticks out as a super strong show that I will never forget. RESPECT !
Seen them seven times post 1999, the band has aged like a fine wine which is why they are my favorite band, Shaw has been my favorite singer songwriter guitar player as Todd has always has been my favorite drummer since 1998! They just happen to be in the same band! Haven’t you noticed Shaw started singing a lot better as soon as 1990 and beyond as soon as he Joined the Damn Yankees his voice became a B+ to an A+
Criticize Todd's technique? Really?? Todd is in the .3% of the best drummers, and a nice guy too. Met him briefly at a clinic/woodstick event at the Muckleshoot casino here in WA state; super nice dude.
Who's one drummer you'd want us to do a "day in the life" with?
Steve Smith
Benny Greb
Lars
Abe Laboriel jr
Mike Portnoy

Most people wouldn't say this but I consider Todd the best drummer alive today. Any group would kill to have Todd.

Todd is absolutely one of the greats. I don’t think he gets nearly enough credit. There are few who can do it all like he can.
Todd is one of the reasons why I’m still playing the drums... He’s such a great inspiration to me!
Becoming a big fan of this guy
Better late than never
Ryan Venancio Me too, Ryan! Me too...what a great drummer and a great guy! Quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites.

Great interview and video , hope you'll make more like this, Awesome !!!!!!
I enjoy watching many drummers but Todd has changed the way I look at drums.
Todd is an absolute beast on the drums. His drumeo lesson is my favorite.
Todd was the first drum clinic I ever went to, and I had no clue who he was. Now I’m a lifelong fan, and seeing his successes throughout the decades makes me so proud! Lucky us now for what he’s doing with y’all at Drumeo. So cool!!
I've seen Todd and Styx twice in concert. They are outstanding!
Such a great, great drummer. I love watching him play!
Wow seeing Jimmy Johnson warms my Heart, I miss him dearly
I’ve seen Todd twice w Styx. The guy was just on fire both nights. He gives everything he’s got on every song and drives that band like a freight train.
He’s an incredible player….his dynamics have always impressed me…
Simplified: Todd wakes up, realizes he is the master, goes back to sleep. Not today peons.
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Why would that ever be something you felt the need to say? Does Thomas Lang pay you?
Thanks for that gift Drumeo! Todd is the best, the master! Such a great guy!
Very Humble Man, Great Drummer, THANKS Drumeo!!!

One of the best drummers around, always!

I'm a HUGE fan of Todd's! World class musician and a wonderful human being. So happy to see him featured here.
I saw you guys live in 2005,2011,2015,2022 and I just want to thank Styx for a lifetime of memories !!!! Todd you are the best at what you do !!!!!

He sure looks a lot like Steve Correl.
These guys are so down to earth and just happy to still be doing what they love to do. And we are happy they continue out there touring... Blessings guys, keep rockin' out...🎶🙂🎸🥁🎹🎤
Such a nice genuine guy who happens to be one of the best drummers. Love the guy

Superb documentary, I’m looking forward to more of these!
Amazing drummer, brings the band to a whole new level....
He's the reason i know this band. The place I'm coming from is not that much familiar with Styx repertoire. Tod is a legend drummer!!!! 🤟
So cool, interesting, and informative to watch! Thanks!

The Boise show was OVER THE TOP, as per usual!
Truly The Great Musician
I love this video!
The hardest working man in show business in my opinion.
