- So this was an actual thing that happened at some point, and a few people were making noises about wanting to find it about a year and a half ago. I found it after doing a little bit of digging of my own. Anyway, I thought I'd upload it here so it's easier for people to find and satisfy their curiosities.
Ngl this was a really stupid decision but it's definitely an interesting piece of Doctor Who history
Gotta' love how Sarah Jane just farted out the stars exploding there at the end
I mean you would too. 😂
What the actual f**k! 😂😂 They went to the trouble of sourcing clean titles and credits to then not actually implement the captions the way they're supposed to look with them, whilst Sylvester McCoy's face still briefly appears before they badly key in Tom Baker. Meanwhile the end credits are copied so faithfully that Bernard Lodge still gets credited for the original title sequence that has been taken out in this repackage!
This is _spectacularly_ ill-conceived, and even more ill-executed.
I love it.
This is even more poorly made than I could have ever imagined. Thanks for sharing it.
"I know that although the Daleks will create havoc and destruction for millions of years, I know also that out of their evil must come something good." And then the incarnation that actually used this title sequence blew their planet up.
Weird, but brilliant (especially when they superimpose Tom's title onto Sylvester's face)
I love how cheesy/rare this is.
I remember this. Superchannel showed compilation versions of this, Ark In Space and Revenge of The Cybermen and called them films, which they justified by editing in the Sylvestor titles.
I wonder if this is why Harry Sullivan is traveling with 7 now in Big Finish… Someone saw these omnibuses and decided to make it more official.
Title sequence BERNARD LODGE. Sure.
They meant for toms titles
Alternate Video Title: Doctor Who - "Genesis of the Daleks Intro and Outro, but it's broadcast in 1987"
Very odd indeed. I suspect that they wanted to use the then current titles but they really didn't have to.
Thanks for this! Fascinating :)
the shortest doctor who episode
The closing titles are relatively inoffensive, but the keyframing of Tom Baker over Sylvester McCoy's face is extremely sloppy. Still a weird decision to include the late 80s titles over a mid-70s story, but not really worth the rather strong reactions from some of the comments. Is it a bad idea? Yes. Is it out of place? Yes. Did it cause the downfall of the show? No!
Beautiful
Why was such an odd title sequence made?
Well obviously, to bring it into the '80s...
...with a roar!
@@jamesc-v6243 I think this was their way of appealing to a new audience. Bad move.
1987 was a rotten year for me I was 18 years old and out of dreaded school but I did not have a proper decent job with a proper reasonable wage
I know that the ABC here in Oz occasionally stuffed things up relating to WHO (mixed up episode orders n stuff... censors butchered some stories...) but this takes the cake! :) In the later 1980's, so - similar time period - the ABC showed omnibus edits too for I believe most of Tom's run, but they didn't broadcast them like that! Just had the original opening title, and maybe a modified end title to capture all appropriate actors etc... Maybe not...
I remember reading about these versions and thinking how cool it sounded. Now seeing an example I realise it was SHYTE, of the shittiest kind.
Sure someone recreated this a few years back on here can't seem to find it now though
"The Timeless Nerd" remade them, I believe.
Is it this one?

Oh wow this really is a thing isn’t it
Did this pretty much on the cheap.
You mean the spent ACTUAL MONEY on this crap? 🤣
Did they do the same thing for the repeat of Revenge they tag at the end?
no clue
according to broadwcast, yes they did and also for The Ark In Space 😁
@@willlovesgaz This and Ark in Space were edited into omnibus editions and shown on Christmas Day and Boxing Day respectively in 1987.
And exactly WHO'S (no pun intended) brainwave was it, to graft Sylvester McCoy's title sequence on to "Genesis Of The Daleks" from 12 years earlier? ... I hope that whoever was responsible was sacked, and sent to prison for crimes against Doctor Who?
Anthony Ainley chuckles into a faded echo
I didn't know they terrier the sequence that's so cool
Oh for Heaven sake 😂
Did you find this on BroaDWcast?
0:33 That's Sylvester
This is so fucking weird to watch. Like some alternate universe where Tom Baker's era lasted through all of the 80's. I like it though! 👌 😆
Weird to say the least
Not "least" ... It's just "weird!" 🤣
Why?
disrespected tom :(
shoddy sequence
Putting the worst rendition of the theme and possibly the worst credits on the best story ever? Heresy! 😂
What possessed them to do this? Its awful lol.
Is this real?
yup
WTF.. disrespecting Tom Baker .. with a Sh*t title like that
The opening titles are a plain embarassment and an absolute insult to the Hinchcliffe era
The 7th Doctor titles are amazing
@@michaelpuglisi6767 Load of rubbish and in totally bad taste. Led to the show being cancelled.
@@alexhaig9137 I think attributing the demise of the show to an altered title sequence seen exclusively in a re-release is probably going to be quite the hard claim to back uo there
@@alexhaig9137 ok enjoy being wrong
Lies!
SO dreadful
