      There's another story of a recon team that lands in the middle of a division. Yes a whole NVA division of 10,000. As long as someone was on the radio they will keep coming to get you, no matter how many planes and helicopters get shot down.

      Not really, as many were indeed left behind! The sole reason for retrieving a living Colonel was the fact that he simply knew too much military intelligence to be captured. and then tortured into revealing that information to the enemy.

      It is not the CMH as you state. The full name of the decoration is Medal of Honor. Congressional is not in the name. Furthermore, it is not awarded but earned and presented. An award is something you recieve when you win a contest. Out of respect for these gallant men, let's at least get the name of the decoration correct.

      So have I. They were both speaking at the annual Seal at the National UDT SEAL museum in Ft. PIERCE, Fl. The museum is amazing to see. It's also fun when you bring the kids along to check it out.
      I was able to get 15 minutes with them and it was an amazing and humbling experience. They were both very nice and acted like a couple of kids that were reliving their glory days. They have definitely earned that right. They reminded me of my grand father and his brother talking about their youth and going off to fight in ww2.

      A great story, Perhaps it should be remade and told in a more true to events way.
      The Movie with Gene Hackman, Its been like over 20 years since I seen it maybe even over 30 years. I don't remember it other than he was stranded and had to make his way out.
      This was back in the days of movies like Rambo and Predator. I loved the war genre, but as a kid the action was more important than the story... Now days its the complete opposite

    Dark Docs team- Please do read some books about LRP/LRRP teams of Vietnam and put out some content on them. It's a big misconception that they were strictly reconnaissance- In reality their typical mission scope included prisoner snatches, POW rescues, direct assaults, calling in airstrikes, ambushes and of course reconnaissance. They ran more missions than all other teams combined in Vietnam. It would be very much worth your time to order some books and read about their incredible missions. There's a wealth of content waiting to be made by a quality channel like this. My father was a LRRP.

But I do know these men are special, they represent the greatest state a man can exist in, with equal parts physical, moral and intelligence providing them god like abilities. These are people we should be idolizing...should be striving to be like. Can you imagine how great a nation we would be if all our men committed to emulating these warriors in their daily lives. This one got me to thinking of service members in the US that were "1st" medal awards. I was surprised. There are nine of them, maybe a few videos of these warriors? There are also 19 with double awards.

    Would be interested to know more about the details at 3:15 where you mention then-LtCol Al Gray's quote since Al Gray was not in Vietnam in April 1972. At that time, he was in command of 2nd Marine Regiment which was training in Camp LeJeune.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    Tommy Norris, Medal of Honor recipient, was later rescued himself by Michael Thornton who was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing Norris. Such men are always hard to find, especially in today's world.

    Humble, Honorable, Legends.
    Saw the movie years ago as kid like many- liked it a lot- it wasn't the usual kind of war movie, it was more about resilience, perseverance, working the problem & staunch resolve.
    It's an amazing story of a handful of courageous, resolute men.

    Michael Thornton was the first time I learned about the navy seals. There was an article in boys life about him. I know there were two or three others. One was from D-day but other than that, Thorntons story is the only one I remember.
