  • On April 11, 1966, the US Army troops of the 1st Infantry Division Charlie Company 16th Regiment were knowingly used as bait to lure out the Viet Cong in the dense jungles of the Phuoc Tuy Province.
But the operation backfired, and now, surrounded, outnumbered five to one, and with no hope of reinforcements coming in, C Company was hanging on by a thread.
However, Army Sergeant James William Robinson Jr. had signed up for the Army just for moments like these. He dragged a fellow soldier to safety and got injured in the process. After reaching cover, Jim propped himself against a tree to patch up wounds on his leg when he was interrupted.
Through the leaves and endless noise, he spotted a heavily entrenched enemy machine gun and immediately realized it was the one causing the most casualties to his beleaguered and dwindling unit.
His procedure had to wait. But without ammo for his rifle, he quickly had to think of something else.
And then, he noticed two hand grenades…

The young men that went to fight in Vietnam were the absolute best of that generation. No one will ever change my mind on this, because I was one of those young men and I am proud of my service in 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. Remember, soldiers, Marines, and sailors don't always fight for flag and country, but we always fight for each other. We are part of a brotherhood that will never give up and never leave a brother behind.

If we don't have good young men serving, we will have what? A force purely comprised of leftist ideology leaning individuals? The upper level officers(O-6 and above) are already largely comprised of those.

I tell people that I’m proud of my service cause I served five years in the Marine Corps right after high school and then I got out due to Covid because I didn’t get the shot. But I loved my time in the service but the service didn’t give a rats ass about me I worked my ass off and was told I was going to get awarded, and an accommodation, promotion and they didn’t they kept pushing it off or kept ignoring it until I was eventually kicked out ( general under honorable conditions, which I can apply for an honorable discharge now because the Covid stuff was stupid) and then they said it wasn’t their problem they even tried to force a medical thing onto my private insurance and not take it on themselves when I was in uniform during an accident then it was finally fixed only because they knew that woulda been a bigger issue then not giving my awards and achievements and stuff like I was told and the fact the medical thing was a problem from the start when it shouldn’t of been. Still can’t get to the VA the dude left 30 minutes before our meeting was supposed to start and I had no idea he did til a different person told me he left. I said I would recommend to my son who is very young at this time but I would always recommend to my friends and son that are debating on serving I recommend on my opinion not at this time because of all of the total BS and corruption going on but I say I will still support their choices and if they still choose I’m going to do everything I can to make sure they can succeed in their opportunity.

I failed my physical for the draft, and, I was ecstatic that I didn't have to go. Later on, I got to thinking about it. They had a quota they had to make. That means that someone else took my place. Now, everytime I meet a Vietnam vet, who entered the service in spring of 1969, I wonder, is he the one that had to go in my place? Having several friends who went, I'm prone to regard them all as heroes. You may wonder, what were they over there fighting for? Well, I'm not sure why they were fighting, except, they were over there so I didn't have to be. I salute everyone who went. You are a hero to me.

I was one of the guys who replaced you! But instead of trying to get out of service because I didn’t want to have someone else die replacing me…. I chose not to run.
Why were we there? Political leaders (old rich men) wanted more money. That’s it! A little of the justification was the domino theory. And I decided I would rather spare my homeland the misery of war and would rather wage war in the other guys country.

If you don't know really what went on it's kind of short sighted to make such a comment. Lots of brilliant plans have come to not because of some unforeseen situation that nobody could have known about. It's called war. It's not exactly like a game of chess because with your very eyes you can see what your enemy is doing if you're good enough. In war you just don't know what's going to happen. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to study some battles and the situation that happened in those battles. I'm talking about further information than what you would find in high school.

I've always despised those that belittle American soldiers, or those that try down playing their heroic actions years later, warm and comfy in their Banana Pajamas. All veterans deserve respect, and learning everything one can about what men have had to do in war, what they saw, what they lost, and what part of their soul that may have been left behind never to be seen again.

At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a Ukrainian soldier was planting explosives on a bridge that the Russians were quickly advancing on. He knew he couldn’t retreat and activate the explosive in time, so he told his unit he was choosing to detonate the explosives while he was in the danger zone. The explosion largely destroyed the bridge and delayed the Russian advance. One small slice of bravery that will never appear in a history book. Dangerous times are a test of a person’s character. Some run away, some advance, and some willingly give all.

I would not say they died for nothing, Vietnam was about stopping the spread of Communism throughout South East Asia and guess what ther spread stopped after Vietnam prior to that Communism was fought against in Indonesia and defeated Malaysia and defeated and the Phillipines and defeated so before Vietnam there was the "Malay Emergency"Malays, British and Australians fought that one, Indonesia the Indonesians fought that one under Suharto and the Phillipines, so Vietnam was the last roll of the Dice for Communist Expansion so because that was the underlying reason for the Involvement of America, Australia, New Zealand, The Phillipines and the South Korean ROK's as well as the South Vietnamese ARVN Troops they may have lost the War but they stopped Communist expansion so I say they won the peace.
That was what was important they won the overall geopolitical scenario they stopped Communist expansion.
Never forget that achievement that was the whole reason NATO existed so I say they did not die in vain.Look beyond the obvious for the truth.

They had a grenade launcher Robinson used it to take out the first sniper. Boxer grenades weighs quite a bit and I don't think that they had a whole bunch with them. I'm talking about the grenade that goes inside the launcher it looks more like a big 45 caliber bullet.
