I also have a 629-6, but mine is the 6.5" barrel with the full underlug. Mine is also a round butt for some strange reason. Congrats on a beautiful gun! What a deal you found!
Just got exact one today, also have the original 29 I got waaay back in 80's in nickle, also have Rugers ,a Redhawk,Blackhawks(supers also) as well as 686 plus which I really like ,my 629 I got from Kengunco(712.88) S&W $50 rebate= $662.88) & it arrived at the FFL dirty & very notchy in double action, took it apart & sanded the safety trigger bar & polished the entire gun with Mothers & oiled & dry fired & now its fine,I put Wolff springs in all my revolvers, most my revovlvers are 6" & now I want a 686 plus with 4" bbl
Thank you for watching and commenting! Great collection of wheel guns you have there...I love my 686 plus too...just wish it had the 3" bbl rather than 2.5". I know, I know, what difference can that 1/2" make...? It's really about proportions for me and I think the 3" looks better balanced than the 2.5"
I bought one of these in 2010, to keep from banging up my old .44s out in the boonies. I had to hold my nose, buying a Hillary Hole revolver. I must say, it balances and shoots wonderfully. Ive actually gotten quite fond of it, its accurate, smooth, and never one problem with it. It works. 👍
Thank you for your video. I need a break from the big-name going to reviewers and find myself watching less viewed productions. Yours was perfect. I too prefer square black grips, and my 629 I actually use a Pachmayr presentation grip that is made for square butt. With some strategically placed gorilla tape there is absolutely no wiggle at all. You are spot on about the finger grooves not fitting the hand.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I am glad you enjoyed it as that is the real test of my work. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be a well known UA-cam gun channel but I'm not going to change from just being an average guy sharing what he's doing. I really enjoyed hearing about your solutions for the grip issues - Gorilla Tape - I hadn't thought of that :D
Thanks for watching and commenting! There are lots of reasons to choose the .357...ammo is cheaper the gun is smaller and lighter...maybe even the gun is a bit less expensive. Of course you can own both you know ;) In my opinion, with your first revolver, especially if it's your first gun period, you can't go wrong with a 4 or 6" .357. You can shoot readily available 38 special to learn to shoot, then step up to the magnum rounds once you have some experience. Much easier to find 38 special to shoot in a .357 than to find .44 special to shoot in a .44 magnum. But....44 Mag WILL put a smile on your face LOL! Regardless, shoot safe, have fun and congratulations on your purchase!
I bought a new 629 5 inch. It is VERY accurate. The only thing is that the forcing cone had burs around the edges. No big deal, I smoothed it around the rim with a fine diamond file. I also polished it up with MOTHERS MAG AND ALUMINUM POLISH.
Thanks for your support by watching and subscribing! Now that you mention it, I think mine is kind of rough around the forcing cone...I'll have to check into that. I've got that polish...as well as Flitz...I'll have to shine her up!
I sent my S&W 36 to S&W for repair in early July, I got it back in February. First off, they got my contact information wrong so I never got the estimate so I could approve the work. Then they had my gun down for the wrong work and not what I asked for. Then my gun got misplaced! Then in late January when I called to ask about the progress of the work, I got a very combative customer service representative. I AM NEVER BUYING ANOTHER S&W AGAIN!!!
No more Gander or deals like that on guns. I was happy buying this exact gun in 2020 for 1000

Wow you made out my friend. Looking to get a 629 myself. Hard time deciding on barrel length, im leaning towards the 6".
Simply an awesome weapon...

Thanks for watching and commenting! Good luck on your purchase - I don't think you'll be disappointed.
My father carried this exact smith and Wesson when he was a deputy sheriff I’d love to own one myself

Thanks man, you too
Thanks for the video. I purchased I 686 in june 16 and it was very dirty from the factory. No cleaning whatsoever after the test firing.
Thanks for the feedback...maybe it's a cost saving measure that Smith has adopted. I guess I'll have to see what the next S&W I buy looks like!
Nice. Beautiful gun!
Thank you for watching and commenting! Can't wait to go shoot this one!
NY considers the 629 a high capacity assault weapon. I’m surprised they don’t require 5 plugs to be installed in the cylinder, pinned and spot welded.

Just bought this gun 2 hours ago... looking forward to my next range day.
I like how you go over what you paid for the gun. It helps me know what range to be in if I want one. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Sure thing...buying from Gander is pretty simple they basically sell at MSRP from the Smith website.

Just paid $1049.00 at Sportmans warehouse in Phx AZ. Date..3-20-23
I enjoyed your video. I hope that you’re doing well. Thanks
Is this a 1 piece or 2 piece barrel?
No doubt S&W use shit ammo , clean it and you have a beautiful gun at a unreal price... thanks for sharing it
Dry firing makes me cringe lol
Especially with a frame mounted firing pin.
