I don't think I have that on my X1, but I SWEAR it did it when I first got the car and not since. I'll check for this switch the next time I'm in the car. Thank you. When I was a student I had an old Mitsubishi that also came with this "feature". When I would stop at a traffic light or was stuck in traffic, the engine would "turn-off". Getting it started again involved a lot of swearing, praying, pushing and sometimes spannerworks. Now years later every time my BMW "feature' kicks in I get a panic attack. Thanks BMW. Also having it on by default when I start the car... that's really annoying and just ads to my driving displeasure. The fact that there's a button to disable this "feature" means that some people had the idea that not all BMW drivers would like this feature, but how the consensus was reached as to what percentage of drivers would like this on by default... I don't know. Don't force new technology down peoples throats. Trust is earned and easily destroyed. I don't trust my BMW anymore. It stalls and I panic, and then I remember that I didn't push the F%$#ing button, and then I hate BMW for 5 minutes. In a week I accumulate about 1 hour of hate towards BMW. After hating BMW for 52 hours every year, I won't be buying a BMW again in a hurry. This is my experience. I know who I am, what I like and what I don't like. Go watch Seth Godin's talk "it's broken" and you might start to understand where BMW went wrong. It's broken for me, it's not broken for everybody, but that's fine. Having aircon is a feature, you can switch it on. Having a radio is a feature, you can switch it on. Having auto start stop is a feature, you can turn it on.... no wait... it's always on, you have to manually turn it off. Again and again and again and again and again. Having something always on, makes it a FIXTURE not a feature.

Don't tell people that you save fuel if the start stop is on its BS. How much fuel do you pull every time your car stops and starts at lights. ALOT. Plus your starter motor cops a beating just like my wifes it burnt out and cost nearly $2000 to get a new one.
How do you get it to stay off so you don’t have to always turn it off? I feel like the newer BMWs don’t give you the ability to do that anymore because on my 2018 bmw 440 I was able to keep it off. On my 2018 X2 I could never get it to stay off and now I have a 2021 X3 and I still don’t know how to make it just stay off automatically when I turn the vehicle on. Any advice? TIA
Unfortunately they changed the coding for the vehicle to default on again. Previous model years did recall last user setting, you’re definitely not imagining things. You could try mentioning it at your local BMW service department but they may not be able to do it.

It’s good to reference the owners manual for a list of common reasons this might pop up. It is common for the feature not to work immediately at startup, if you’re low on battery, or on an incline/decline FYI

I’m not familiar with an e92 M3 with start/stop button in that location. For the “e” chassis, the strip of buttons directly below the radio only had a start stop button on the e84 I believe. If the picture in the button is the letter “A” with a circle around it then I think it may be non functioning for that vehicle
Not sure that if the battery charge is low that it will disable start/stop. I have a 2016 X4.. I had gone to dinner over the weekend and had the car valet parked. Unbeknownst to me, the valet guy turned my headlight switch in the on position and not the Auto On position, so this caused my battery to drain. By Monday, i went to work, went to lunch and the car started fine but on my drive back from lunch, going around a turn in the parking lot, the car shut off abruptly. I was unable to re-start and the panel completely went dead. My fob could not even unlock my hatch, nor lock/unlock the door. The only thing i could do was switch on my emergency flasher! Since the shifter is electronic, I was unable to put the car in neutral to push it to a parking space..fortunately this didn’t happen while in the middle of a busy street or freeway for that matter! Even the AAA tow truck coulbe not jump start the car, so they towed it to a dealer, who told me my batteries were completely dead. WTF?? Fortunately, my warranty covered the replacement! However, this start/stop is an AWFUL feature and can be very dangerous as it could put you in a very very bad predicament as I found out. Thanks for the tip on how keep this damn feature OFF.. the hell with fuel savings. I’ve had a 5 series for over 11 years and have had NO issues whatsoever other than normal wear and tear. There is no way anyone can convince me that the total fuel savings can be more than the cost of a set of BMW batteries (my X4 has two I believe), nor the cost of a worn starter!

As I’m sure you’ve noticed already, the 330e is a bit different than the standard gas 3 series. You’re not missing anything, that button is absent in your vehicle.
After a few years you will need a new flywheel if you have a diesel engine and probably a new battery. Get it programmed so it is always off this option
Once I played music in my BMW F30 (ignition was off) for about 20mins and I thought it will be alright. However the battery got completely discharged. When I recharged it everything seemed normal for a while but later the start/stop feature seemed to stop working and sometimes it was a little difficult for car to start, like the battery was a little weak. I wonder if it's the the battery issue or I should look for solution in other area to make start/stop working again. Is it possible to check F30 battery by myself without any tools or do I need someone with multimeter?
Andrius Bul let me say this for full disclosure , I’m not a BMW tech. I’m usually the last line of defense before recommending service get involved. I would have a BMW service technician take a look. It’s likely the auto start/stop feature is not working due to the battery issues you’re encountering. In case there are some underlying issues it’s best that service helps to diagnose them, especially if you’re still under warranty. I hope all goes well

It worked, it started when it was warm (+5 C degrees), but during winter I had some problems and not every cold morning my car could start. Sometimes it started hardly, sometimes it didn't start at all. About a month ago (from the day I am writing this comment) I changed the battery, visited electrician (not a BMW service, but a man I know personally) and he connected the battery to my car's computer (as it is required for new battery). Old battery had 100ah and new one has 90ah. Now there's no problems with start, but the start/stop feature is acting weird. When you start your trip it doesn't really work, but when you drive for some time (15km), the feature turns on. Maybe because it's pretty cold during the time, or maybe it's the other issue. Still experimenting, researching looking for solution. *In conclusion the faulty battery had really big impact to start/stop feature.*

Some vehicles have the ability to remember ‘last user setting’ , but some do not have this feature and will default on each time the vehicle is started

I by mistake pressed the A button at a stop light tonight and when I pressed the gas petal the car turned off and I panicked, there were cars behind me. I hope I didn't damage anything 😬 . The screen said it has to be on park and I quickly put the car in park and had to start the car again. That was scary. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
You came to a stop and pressed the button whilst you came to a stop , which deactivated the start stop as you stopped with it initially off! To restart the car it would then ask you to be in park to start it up again as if you were pulling of from a journey , it’s fine 😉

E84 chassis X1s with auto start/stop had a button in the center stack below the radio/CD player

That’s is very plausible, it is designed to deactivate when battery issues are present, as a safety precaution
My start/stop button doesn’t turn the car off . But I notice a delay in the battery when I start it from a cold start sometimes
