Place a CD between the platter and slipmat. Solves the drag issue perfectly!! Smooth like butter. Learned this important trick from a DJ in the comments; felt that needed repeating because it worked perfectly.
yeah, washers fuck up the button option/quick release. thats where I was, I didn't realize this technique and now that I realize what SB means, using this technique casually is a cool game leveler. try to mix and nudge with washers
What up DJ Skratch Bastid, awesome video, your appreciated homeslice. Its kinda funny, I was just literally doin this with my Denon SC-5000M media player, and I give you props for doin it with one hand, definitely a 2 handed task...lol hahaha....Im an in-between guy myself, when it comes to the vinyl slippage, dont want it to loose, but definitely not to tight either, just kinda in the middle. I noticed I had to sort of lift up gently, as I was also tightening that screw into the spindle slot.... Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love to all the devoted, dedicated, & passionate Skratch DJ's worldwide.... 🔥💯👍💪🙏🎶🎵🌎
This advice is also useful if you have a Numark NS7, its the same procedure. I was having the same issue of the control vinyl dragging a bit, I adjusted it like bastid said and it spins like butter now :)
There are washers that come with the generation 2 twelves. You have to put at least two over the spindle BEFORE putting on the slip mats and vinyl. I had this exact same issue and haven’t had an issue since putting on the washers.
Yup - THIS^^^... Important point for folks watching this... It comes with washers. I also have two on, then a slip-mat, with the vinyl on top. Mine were very stiff initially when i unboxed them (i was actually quite disappointed), until i worked out what the washers were for!
The original NS7 was so far ahead of its time... still the best all-in-one controller ever made and closest feel to vinyl with indestructible faders that slapped... thinking about grabbing the twelves
Inmusic corporation bought Rane and since it owns Numark it used the same tried technology to create the Rane 12. In other words Rane 12s are not better or worse, they are the same.
Good afternoon Brother, I’m wanting to get into djing. Do you mind speaking with me about the craft? Specifically I’d like to know more about song selection and making the nights energy fall and rise smoothly.
Really enjoy your videos and watching you DJing. I have a question currently I'm using the djm s11 mixer. With two Rane 12 mk II Just wondering if possible to connect a third Rane turntable to this setup. Thank you.
Tried this doesnt work on the MK2. As soon as you lift it off a bit its fine but then once you actually touch it and spin it locks into place. I think this is for the MK1 only. I tried the butter rugs from thudrumble and they seem to work good. I was using the stock slipmats with some wax paper and it worked cool for like 2wks then it started to stick and didnt work so good. Now just using butter rugs under. Have yet to try the Dr suzuki mats with the slipsheets since they want $20 to ship it from the UK
Wow, I did not know this at all.I even asked JFB about this and he was like whatever. I think I'll give it a go one more time before trying. Do butterrugs help any with the plastic sheets?
Yo Scratch Bastard... Kinda off topic but where did you pick up those Vinyl shelves you have in the back? The look pretty sturdy. I can only find cheat ones. Thanks
Hi Scratch Bastid. I am using Rane 72 and Rane Twelves. One of the Rane Twelve has a problem with the Dual Key Pad. It is not working and when playing music it would start playing the track and then automatically jump to the end of the track and stopping. Please help me out here. Thank You
Hello Bastid. I have an issue with my start - stop button on rane 12 and I was wondering if you can help me with a tip. Every time I hit start, the record starts with a delay or latency and I don’t like it, is there a way to fix that?
Just add a few sheets of paper between the platter and the control disk then tighten the screw, you can add more or less until you find your sweet spot.
@@augustinlanglais7516 what do you do , or do you mean drill a hole into an old cd and then put that over the spindle first and then put the control vynl on top, if so how to avoid the platters from getting scratches.
The Rane Twelves look awesome, I just wish their was a tuntable/controller hybrid. That way you could whip off your control vinyl and bang on a real record & get the best of both worlds. I rarely DJ anymore, but saw these & love the look of them. It would just be nice to have control vinyl that you weren't wearing out with the needle. TBH I still don't get how these decks work.
For the price they should have a modular removable tonearm, it's just a midi controller probably no more than £200 of components the rest is R&D, don't get me wrong I wouldn't say no to a free pair, but I would not spend more than £600 for a pair. Phase kind of makes this obsolete for anyone with actual turntables at a fraction of the cost and gives you your timecode without wearing out your needle😀
Not the right way…..tightening or loosening with Allen key does not work because it’s based on a slot resistance….like on or off situation. I purchased Dr Suzuki slip mats….no change….it’s a simple thing what RANE suggests…add the washers provided

Interesting fix, appreciate the repeat
Won't this scratch the platter ?
@@metadata5638 i havent had any problems
Thank you I try using 7 inch slipmats, so smoooooth
U saved my life with this one.... I thought I was the only one who had this problem that twelve is tight on the spinbacks
With the new generation, they include washers that help with resistance as well. 😎

Took me a couple months in 2018 to figure it out, I was about to sell those bad boys
Hey, this is an awesome tip for someone considering buying a Twelve.
oh thank you so much have been looking for someone to answer this question for so long respect SB.

You’re a genius! I was thinking about returning the MK2s. 🙏🙌
thanks man, I got the mk 2's and they sound a lot better already!
I did this on my rane one and the drift is mad crazy
Does the control vynl eventually fall back down after raising it 🤔

Following...same issue :(
At the back of your rane12 is a button, which you can change from slow to fast. This should fix it:)
The torque setting? This did not fix it for me…not sure what the issue is, I have 3 washers under my slip mats…

I usually put a sheet of paper or two underneath the platters ,then adjust . Its all trial and error to get it to feel the way you want it.
You went over to the dark side Pioneer mixer LOL!
I actually used a CD with the original stock slip mats
Can you please explain how to use a cd
Where did you get the custom white vinyl
Sorry I can’t find this scroll but pls were can it get the scroll you using please?
Do you prefer playing with the twelve or real turntables. I’m torn between the Reloop 8000 mk11 or the Rane Twelve MKii
Thank you!!
Hey what is your opinion on these? Considering getting a pair but I want it to be identical to vinyl if possible.
Will this work with the Rane One?
Where can I find replacements I can’t find them online or I am lost..
Just add a few sheets of paper between the platter and the control disk then tighten the screw, you can add more or less until you find your sweet spot.
is mk2 can use the same way to change?
I got new slip mats and the difference was night and day. The washers didn’t work for me.
What about the spacers that comes with the second generation?
bro my twelve doesnt have any type of screw any help??
This is what I do on my NS7ii.
RAne 12? Using Serato, is there still a music signal sound. Sounds like a permanent beep. It's so annoying if you can hear it.
The Rane 12s are not a turntable. So you don't have any signal tone because there is no needle
hi! The mk2 is different story...
Yeah anyone have any answers for the MKII?
U prefer 12 over 1210?
Place a cd under the vinyl it spins more

It's possible to add the needed electronics to a numark x2 or even to a technics... but it requires some tinkering and money.
