Hey Hey It's Saturday, April 8 1995. Notable for including Chris Bailey (Angels, Gang Gajang etc) on bass, though he didn't appear on the recording. www.mentals.com.au
Oh ffs. Can't even go to a Mentals filmclip and read the comments to share in the love for the band. And some sooky flog is bleating about the state of Australia nowadays.
I remember going to see these guys in Newcastle in 09 at Lizottes. As part of a Radio Prize, we won a Table at the front where Greedy cooked for us (at the table) and told us the story of the Dish and how the Working Girls taught him as a Kid how to make it.... something like that anyway, as probably on our 3rd bottle by then. Greedy was one of a kind, and an Australian Legend.
Saw these guys back in their heyday, fantastic pub band, they loved being up close with their audience. You'd be on the dancefloor and greedy would jump off the stage with a fosters six pack and pass them around. Great times.
I remember being ten years old and going into a CD shop and trying to buy this single. Nope they didn’t have it. I would have to buy the whole album or order the single in as a special order. We didn’t have the internet!!
Lol, those were the days. I remember waiting literally months for my copy of 'Sweet Strung Up' to arrive from overseas. As agonising as the ar$ehole who stole my entire LP collection. :( Given your search you might be able to help with this question - wasn't this song released as a Martin Plaza single (i.e. pedantically it's not a Mental's song)?
I heard this song on the Doctor Demento show.... When I hear this song, it makes me think of the cartoonist Robert Crumb cartoon character Mr. Natural. The long bearded bald guy who talks and is in naughty Zap Comics from the late 1960's ...1970's......he's on a shirt that says "Just Pass'n Thru"
I was there, it was how a funeral should be. The love in the place for Greedy was overwhelming. I'm proud to say I was a friend of his and Chris Bailey too. RIP Gentlemen.
@@cousiwa09 There were 2 different Chris Baileys, one in the Saints and the one in the Mentals video was the late Chris Bailey of the Angels and Ganggajang.
funny most of the things he mentions lead to health and faster enlightenment, which is why we all come to Earth in the first place. yet we are taught to believe that is crazy and sniffing coke, etc makes more sense.
Classic. I was a contestant on Red Faces on this very episode. I was sitting in the audience watching this.
awesome!
Sounds like they r lip singing, they were, but still would have been great
@@mitztflanders9086 Regs guitar sounds live
What was your Red Faces act?
You were lucky
Thanks for the music and the memories..rest easy Greedy 💜
RIP Greedy. Loved your work.
Late 70s I watched them have jam sessions in old warehouse in Riley Street Darlinghurst....
Whatever happened to Australia, we were spoilt rotten for good music back in the 60s, 70s and 80s
Okay boomer
Yep. RIP in pub scene and the bands that made their names in it.
Oh ffs.

Poker machines ruined the music scene, simple as that.
And into the 90s - Regurgitator, Spiderbait, Powderfinger...TISM...
Mentals were a great live band, many memories.Thank you all,i was very lucky to grow up with the classic line up.
😊love mental as anything still in 2023! 😊
RIP Greedy Smith. Legend music and band,

One of the many underrated well produced top pop singles from an iconic aussie band.

Best T-Rex song never recorded by T-Rex :-D
Best pastiche of "Jean Genie" not recorded by David Bowie.
@@jondunmore4268 Can I join this with a harmonic third? Tony Visconti. Don't discount Tony Visconti.
Also I never knew Scotty Kilmer played bass :-)
Perfect comment

i always loved the drummer in this band , is he still with them , if not why not, regards sly dumbar
@MrUmlauterschweiger . There was a whole lot more to it than a drunken gig. He did himself a disservice too by going the court route.

Havent heard that song since 1995 !
Another mentals awesome tune !!!

All members were definitely aging by this point. Great song though, certainly one for the ages.

Last biggest hit. Whole Wide World was a minor hit
Who is playing bass in this clip??
Not Peter that's for sure

It's the late, great Chris Bailey of the best Angels line up and Ganggajang. A great man both on and off stage.
T Rex vibe
Got a TRex thing goin on in this song
Revenge of the nerds in a band format
I am Mr Natural, you can call me Mr Natural
America took over our film industry which was bigger than theirs and flooded us with doof, doof and reality shows.
Martin plaza....gave this band there edge
Tanya Beznec *their*
They all had a hand in making them a great band.
If you can't see that, then it shows just how little you know them all.
funny most of the things he mentions lead to health and faster enlightenment, which is why we all come to Earth in the first place. yet we are taught to believe that is crazy and sniffing coke, etc makes more sense.
Find it hilarious this song was on a family show
look, he said very clearly he DOESN'T sniff coke
By that time, Hey Hey was on at a much later time slot. So that they could get away with much more in AO viewing time.
In those days it would have been on between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
IV always wondered what happened to the wiggles once they grew up.
The theme song of Danny Frawley....
Oof
martin plaza is too cool
I like this song possibly their best, but not the occult symbology.
What "occult symbology"?
@@Hellwyck That'd be the loud shirts Also they'd sacrifice bottles of beer and Scotch during shows.
@@Hellwyck mention of New Age
