New York City has a lot to offer as of course you know because you don't live under a rock. However, you have to be smart when deciding to make the move. Don't just move here because you're wanted by the cops in your town. Move here for the right reasons! We'll help you out!

Literally the quote of the day "would that be immediate aids?" (also applicable to London)
When Beth said that Mary Kate and Ashley were in trench coats, I couldn't help but think of "We're super duper snoopers, first class private I's!"
I live in New York and I met anderson cooper last month while walking to work he was so nice and even shook my hand !
The whole time I was just thinking "I need that sweatshirt in my life!"
(But I also learned that maybe New York and Johannesburg are not actually that different-syringes and everything! Haha)
I'm a born/bred Brooklynite from Flatbush....I tell folks all the time,"If you want to travel the world, travel Brooklyn....".Flatbush and Crown Heights=great Caribbean and African food...
for basically my entire life I've never had the desire to go to new york. but my family and I are going for a few days this summer, so I guess I'll see how I like it. In terms of living there, I don't even know what my passion is yet, so to try and go there to achieve something probably wouldn't be very beneficial to me right now.
This is awesome! So much I love about living in NYC! So happy to have moved here
You guys have a great sense of humor!!! I love your vibes
Ok is it just me or were you feeling that wine a little to much towards the end? Cause you got super friendly haha great video though.I'm going to live in NYC but not in the near future.
I met Bill Murry, Jon Hamm and his kids, Laura Linney, Danny Glover, I lived next to James Franco, Anderson Cooper... I met/ saw a lot of celebrities in NYC, but then, I was born here. And every time, I'm like "be cool.... be cool.... uhmuhgud... uhmuhgud..." =p
Loved it!!!... Is it bad that I specifically love all the clips where you're drinking with friends?
Hahaha, I am finding that more and more of my videos include booze. Whoops!
Lmfao at Akilah's shirt haha thats awesome! I need one
I visited NY for the first time a couple of years ago and was enamored. I had been way too intimidated (and poor) to go up to that point. Now I've got kids and all this BAGGAGE...it's too late for me, but I support you both 100%!!
I spent a summer in NYC for an internship... and I want to be there again so bad. So bad. I've applied to jobs there and even put in the cover letter "willing to relocate." But nothing... still going for it but we'll see. Great videos!
moving to Long Island from the UK at the end of the summer. excited to explore NYC!
Loved this video! I'm from a small city and I'm supposed to be moving to NYC this fall for a musical theatre program and got really overwhelmed with how much money it's gonna cost to move there and was thinking maybe I shouldn't do this. But you both nailed all the reasons I love NY and want to move there... thanks for posting this helpful video :)
thank you :)
I'm loving these collabs!!! And your hair was giving me life!!!! Nothing wrong with moving somewhere for the food! But that would entail moving to America first and the way my finances are set up... Lol!
hahaha, I stay in the gym because the food here is too damn good.
Hahaha Akilah funny lol, I stumbled upon this because I'm trying to make the decision to move to NYC for photography vs staying in Nashville, TN. I could make more there, but I'm somewhat well known in Nashville, but traffic is getting worse here and there's no transit system.
p.s. (i feel like i'm spamming) but the thing about moving here and having passion and today I was just in such a terrible way and this helped SOO much! I loved this. you guys' dynamic was great!!! more plz!
Love this! I should do an LA version of this. Leaving New York was a rash decision. I wanna come back!!!
Well I go to school in Wisconsin and its nice to know that there are youtuners from here :D
I've never been to America but I would love to check out N.Y. Especially to see the comedy scene.
ugh, good convo you guys, i loved every bit of this
:)
I loved this! So funny. Love you both.
Thank you. Your the best.
"would that be like...immediate aids?" I died.
I Luved this video I always wanted to move to New York and I will to pursue my dreams..
Could you do a video with tips for moving to NY, how to look for apartments, etc? :)
I'm not planning on moving to New York for professional reasons. I just think that NYC has the perfect atmosphere for a guy like me. I've never really been a small town type, which is why I'm dying to get away from where I'm currently living. Is that a good reason?
He'll yeah! However in my situation, I want to move to New York for my career & also for the atmosphere! That's my goal. But you do as you please if you want to then it never hurts to make adventures :)
I just moved to Brooklyn for school lol I'm still lost haha but i like it so far
I moved to Boston to get my life together, and now I'm like "Did I move to the right city?" Lol
My sister moved to Chicago and is having the same crisis right now. Her answer is definitely no though.
I love your videos and I think you're flawless. So inspiring.(:
Hell, I moved here from Philadelphia, PA. As big and interesting as Philly is, NY is more so. It's a bunch of small neighborhoods that are unique and interesting. I recommend it.
Haha. I moved to Boston from Chicago, or at least the burbs. No opportunities there at all. I love Chicago, and maybe one day, I'll move back.
The "t" is missing from Akilah's shirt.
I want to move back to New York so badly and I know I will eventually. I don't think I can stay away forever!! I want to start my own magazine and what better place than in NYC (:
Follow your dreams and they will become a reality!!!!!!
I was offered the opportunity more thn once to stay in NY with my dad..but didnt. Now i kinda wished i did..even tho i now hav a job thts related to fashion after i went to fashion school for 4yrs..maybe i can still move to NY and give up evrything here. One day..
Question:
I want to move to NYC but I don't have a plan. Basically, how much of my life do I need to have figured out before I go? Is it irresponsible to try to move there without definite goals and aspirations?
I would say to have a plan OR be able to adapt easily. When people say NYC is fast, there's no exaggeration. In a day you can be making more money than you've ever made in your life, or you can get fired/kicked out of your apartment/hit by a train. Personally I always wanted to do comedy, and I knew it was possible here, which is 99% of the reason I chose here. So my recommendation is to at least think on it. Figure out if NYC is where you'd flourish :)
Lol I don't have a plan either. I'm planning on moving next year to get away from this boring town.
Underground public transport heck yeah :D
You make it sound like there's no many kids in New York. Which sounds awesome.
Heck yes I base my life on food. Doesn't mean it can't be healthy. I mean, kale is tasty too... if stewed to death and served with a lot of grease and potatoes. AS IT SHOULD BE.
Wow, 5$ for a whole meal in a city does sounds pretty damn cheap!
If you wanna see celebs your place/field of work might be more important than your place of living though ;)
Can you do a video or make a list of affordable and tasty places to eat in nyc?
Hey Akilah,
Thanks so much for this vid. I've lived in NYC for the past two summers, but now I'm moving there full time this summer to start my adult life. As much as I love the city I don't like a lot of racism that happens (e.g. being followed in stores, stop and frisk, etc). How do you deal with it?
Thanks,
Liv
it's my biggest dream, right in the first place in my bucket list,... too bad i don't know what i'm doing with my life and i'm scared of everything... (plus i have the wrong nationality but that's a whole other story)
sounded a bit bitter there, oops
don't mind me, just in the middle of an existential crisis :P
no worries. I mean, I love it here, and sometimes I see the romance and allure, but it's just like anywhere. I feel like the greatest difference between my home and NYC is me and my attitudes :)
Smoothiefreak that's an interesting way to see it, and it makes total sense, I'm the first one to admit I like my-holiday-self much better than regular, I feel adventurous and fearless, and I guess I have just romanticized the whole NYC thing, hoping some of its energy would rub off :P anyway, just rambling, thanks for your words Akilah, much love from morocco :)
Love this !
Make a video about the places to eat for $5. Tourist gotta eat too. And a video about going to NY for 11 hours.
I'm moving to NYC for college ! And your so pretty, you look like Kerry Washington lol
I live like 20 minutes from florence! I also want to move to New York...
I Agree
I'd consider moving there...but I can't help but think that I might be a part of gentrification which is not something I'd want to contribute to...but of course there are other living options.
How does a 19 year "Make it" in NYC? A 19 yr old whose lived here most of their life.
I'm an aspiring writer/journalist. I have been inspired by a lot of people who live in NYC and I feel that living there would make being creative and implementing my plans much more feasible.
Is it much easier for aspiring artists in any field to get their work noticed?
this is 64% why I want to move to NYC too!
Akela, great video because of it I also check out Beth and Show's channel and am subscribed. You're reasons for moving to NYC seem good and encouraging for people who want to go for their dreams. How much money would you recommend having to move to the city? How do you land, like do you have a roommate lined up or an apartment or just "stand in time square" and figure it out when you get there? Jake
Check out the video on Beth's channel! We give all the NYC life hacks on moving here :)
Smoothiefreak
Yeah, you know what, right after I wrote this that was my next stop and I realized you had all the answers there. That's a great video in it's own right. Beth in Show seems like a real good friend and UA-camr and it'd be cool to see more combinations with you two. You've gotta great thing and vibe going in NYC keep it up. Jake
that Moby thing reminds me of himym
I want to move to a hustlin bustlin city, just not new york. I want to go to Seattle once I finish my bachelors here in North Carolina. Do you know anything about that city and can the advice still be carried over for any big city move?
I am still in high school and I've been thinking about apply to a performing arts school in either LA or NYC but idk if I go to college out there is it difficult to find work and a good space to live for a reasonable price I kind of know the LA area but they don't offer as many opportunities for what I want to do if you could help that would be amaze-balls lol thank you
I want to move to NY to get into the publishing industry but the thought that it is such a big city with so many people is pretty intimidating. Any advice?
20 dollars fuck that im picking it up lol, and i lived here all my life i have yet to see a celeb on the street lol except maybe a local coming up star lol, guess cause im in brooklyn lol
Love your sweatshirt ? We're did you buy it ?
beyonce.com!
I'd like to see a video of you getting a good meal at $5 please and just healthy shopping on a budget
Lol I'd like to see that to
I live like 20 minutes from florence!
Great lmao just perfect
lol i miss the end card song a lil
In New York City, pizza calls YOU?
That alone should totally be a reason to move there.
I have 4,100$ (I'm also shooting for the 5,000$) in my savings to move to NYC and this just made me feel A LOT better.
As somebody who's lived in New York for several years, which movie set in new york best represents your experience of the city?
I shall not lie but in your thumbnail Beth looked alot like gwenyth paltrow ( I KNOW SHE GETS THAT A LOT) and I thought for a legit second, "Oh look akilah is so popular! She got goop to be on her show."
I drop everything so if i moved to NYC i would lose half of the things in my purse.
How did you manage to get Kirsten Dunst in this video?
Would you recommend new york for a college student?
Surfbort
grainin on dat woodt
Did she just say Manitowoc, WI?
I pick up pennies!! My piggie bank is almost full. Love NYC
So some one from
Philly could adapt to NYC okay ?
I want to pursue film acting, and I hear LA is the place to go, but I feel like New York has the energy and the feel for me. Have you been to LA? Any thoughts on my predicament?
I think there are probably more opportunities for film acting and episodic television acting in LA, but lots of shows source their talent outside of LA. I don't have much of a recommendation :(
I'm from Louisville Ky,,,,,
Please don't stereotype everyone!!!! Just because I'm from ky doesn't make me a racist........
i was born in queens,ny but then i moved to florida so im not sure if much has changed in the last 7 years but is there like a difference from queens and nyc ? bc i have a really big urge to move back or at least or move to my other home long island ( i moved from queens to long island)
Queens is SO MUCH DIFFERENT than NYC. Well, it technically IS NYC, but I digress. Each borough has its own flavor. I live in Brooklyn, but commute "the city" (Manhattan) all the time. From what I gathered visiting and talking to people, Queens is a great place for families, and there's lots of space. But most young people live in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and it's just a totally different vibe.
Smoothiefreak thanks for answering me it helped me a lot ! loved this video btw :)
she kinda looks like a browner Kerry washington
How do you find random roommates in the city?? I'm scared of getting creepers!
THIS! I was in NYC for a little while. I was with an elderly relative for a short while (
hmm about the dropping of and letting go of something...how bout I wont drop my shit and thus won't have to pick up my shit? hmm yeahhh Ima hold onto my shit reaallll tight. But thanks for the advice akilah. LOLOLOLOL
Okay. Give these two anything they want. NOW,
New York sucks. This city is way overrated. I was born and raised in NYC. It is overcrowded & expensive.
Random question (and please feel free to not answer if you don't feel comfortable), but is that your hair or a sew in? I ask because I'm trying to find a good protective style for my hair :)
Hey! That's all my hair. I've only ever had 2 weaves. :\. Wish I could help more.
No problem. Thx for replying. Your hair is awesome :)
nothing wrong with a life based on food. You have seriously massive pizza, that's totally a reason to move there.:)
what are the basic costs like, like a thing (quart? i don't know) of milk or loaf of bread?
Beth told me to watch you, i'm glad.
Hmm, truthfully I didn't see a difference in food prices from grocery stores from when I lived in the south. The biggest difference I think is just cost of living. Rents are high, dining out is expensive, transportation is expensive. Basic food essentials are mostly the same.
Smoothiefreak heh sounds like here. i just checked out a site, and apparently it only costs 8% more in nyc compared to sydney. Biggest thing was rent being higher, but food, clothing, and transport were cheaper there.
ha, it sounds better there now, i wish we had your transport system, tv shows and fast internet.
OMG now i want to go there more. uuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggggggggg.
2bros dollar slice. put some garlic powder on there. almost same as a serving veggies.
not really relatable xept for MOBY - damn, that's electrifying B! And the offhand delivery of how you got to celebrate nye at his place - haha!
Akilah--Love you and your vids but your editor cuts off your sentences too much to cut to the next sentence!
I agree. We'll work on it for future videos
Wait did you say the subway is reliable?....ok like 70% of the time.
Beth lowkey looks like Kirsten Dunst
"how long does it take for aids to happen" haha
i thought beth was cameron diaz at 1st
What if you dropped your phone or keys? Would those come back ten fold?
Does everybody have rats and or roaches in the city? In DC mice live in the walls...
I would poop my pants if I saw marykate and ashley.
I love your channel, but as a native New Yorker I found myself disagreeing with you on a lot of things. Even in the concrete jungle there is a five second rule and I can assure you no true New Yorker is going to walk away from a $20, no matter where it has been. There are two thing native New Yorkers hate: 1.Tourists and 2. People who move to New York.
Broke? And my comments proved this how? Let me guess you can magically see the inside of my wallet? Lol. You're comment was asinine and you obviously have the intelligence of a parasitic worm.
you're making new yorks sound self fish, like the only people that can be there was the people who was born there lol.
u guys are crazy, if you move to nyc, you will broke in no time. FYI
