I did all that back in the day. I still have all the tools. Now all my personal and business vehicles use Discount Tire who fixes the tires for free. Nice DIY tool upgrade Steve. Again, your mind must always be running at 100 miles an hour! I can understanding still doing this to off road tires.
I've used both types for years. Started after paying a garage to fix a tire only for them to use a plug. Figured l could do that too. Never had a problem. FYI, they do recomend that you twist the tool around a few times to make a bit of a ball on the inside. Cheers.
Hey Steve. They are great for off road use. Good fix for your vehicle too, they'll get ya home but one should consider an inside patch or replacement. But I must admit, in my younger years I ran some scary tires and never had a problem 😅
I plug most off-road tires and it will depend on the vehicle and who’s driving for on road vehicles. That tool you made looks great and much better than the ones sold in most stars. Cheers Steve
I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I like your tool, Steve! LOL The stop is a great idea and you're right...why leave a whole wack of plug inside the tire when it isn't necessary or useful. Another fantastic video!!
You did it again Steve. You made your own tool to better suit your needs. You come up with some good stuff and I always look forward to seeing what your up to.
Another great idea Steve making the tool actually user friendly. I think using plugs is a time tested method and I don’t see any reason to change something that works. Thanks Buddy 🍻
The patch is a more permanent fix. I put a plug kit in my car for emergencies so I can get somewhere to have it patched or replaced. I plugged my lawn tractor tire that had a splinter of wood in it but it still leaks. I may try again or try taking it off & patching it.
I use tire plugs all the time. I use safety seal plugs and the Safety Seal KAP30 - Auto/LT Deluxe Kit - It has many of the features you tool does and it only costs like $50. I also has a depth setter so you can used it with shorter plugs.
That a good idea Steve.. The driver for the plugs that you gabbed seem to be the thing to use. I have some of them internal pa😊tech and plug but I must say I have never used it. Always got by with the rope…..CHEERS
With run flat tires on newer model vehicles like BMW it’s best to refer to owners manual. Plugs may be on off road vehicles or even tire slime on atv’s. But isn’t it always the way 😮The Man holding you Down making you buy something new. Have a good one Steve 😊😊
@joeo1352 Hi Joe Respecting your local safety requirements is a must when doing any repair. The online sellers of tire repair kits have no idea where their acceptable or legal so its be aware or be liable . Cheers 👍
Great inside Steve👍 But I have to add that if you ever get to use a mushroom plug and gun kit you would throw all of that in the garbage, not kidding!! Take care Steve✌
@OpenAirOutdoors Hi Marc I have seen them but never tried one so I'm thinking maybe someone we know that has an outdoor channel could demonstrate how they work if your stuck in the outdoors with a flat tire 😉
I've put a ton of plugs in my tires and never had one fail either. I think a couple tires on my old Santa Fe were more plug than tire lol. Have you seen those plug guns? I can't remember what they're called or a brand but they insert a mushroom plug that expands inside the tire
I use the plugs in the tread area all the time. I won't use them in the sidewall but have never had an issue, and I use them on my highway tires too. Like you though, I won't use them on my new Silverado especially since America's Tire will patch them for free (and you do NOT have to had bought the tires from them).
How's she goin'? I use plugs for off road tires and I even used them on the sidewalls with no issues. But for highway use tires, I would only use a plug in a temporary or emergency situation. Take 'er easy!!
I think the plug is better than Fix-A-Flat and similar. Tire shops have to be really careful if you use those cans on a tire, but if you use a plug it doesn't cause them a problem.
@Sylvan_dB Hi Sylvan Like most businesses out there , they are run in part by insurance companies that underwright their insurance liabilities so a shop must keep up to industry standards for repair procedures for their location. As a diyer it's much different but the liabilities are still there. Cheers 👍

Hi Papa
It's a lot different in different locations so being aware of the type of repair to a tire can be challenging.

It's good to know at least how to do it for an emergency and yes the best way to do it.

@OpenAirAdventure Hi Kenny
Me too :) Today, it's much different as times change, so do the repairs. Cheers 👍

Hi Lloyd
Yes exactly !!!
Hi Steve Cheers 👍

Thanks Craig , something I've thought about too 👍
@@SteveRobReviews Always great tips and ideas in your dhop….except for the time you ruined your neighbours mower😄😃😂
For last 30 years I plug the hole then grind plug flush on inside. Then patch on inside. Never had a problem doing it that way.

@bobbrown118 Great to see you have had great success 👍
You did it again Steve. You made your own tool to better suit your needs. You come up with some good stuff and I always look forward to seeing what your up to.
@wyattoneable Thanks Wyatt , if something works it works but if it dosen't work well it gets worked on :)
Another great idea Steve making the tool actually user friendly. I think using plugs is a time tested method and I don’t see any reason to change something that works. Thanks Buddy 🍻
Hi Doug
It's a good idea to learn how to do many maintenance fixes safely . Cheers

I've noticed many small tires on tractors are lucky to be 2 ply so yes I've had the same result at times with plugs :)
I use tire plugs all the time. I use safety seal plugs and the Safety Seal KAP30 - Auto/LT Deluxe Kit - It has many of the features you tool does and it only costs like $50. I also has a depth setter so you can used it with shorter plugs.
Hi Tom
I'll check the kit out , thanks.

Hi Gator
We all seem to use what were used too and what works for us.

@@SteveRobReviews Well I keep mine in the Jeep and it has saved my bacon a few times so you never know 😆
I use tire plugs and you have a great idea there steve. Not an idea because you made the tool lol i can see it working better, just makes good sense.
@DIYVariety Hi Jason
Only out of frustration with the ones I've used in the past.
I've put a ton of plugs in my tires and never had one fail either. I think a couple tires on my old Santa Fe were more plug than tire lol.

Hi Bruce
There are so many flat options out there , I've seen many but never tried them except for the rope plug .
Wow. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!

Good to know how they work for that one time your stuck and need a fix.

my wife's car got new tires recently but I'm sure the tech was surprised to see the amount of plugs her old tires had lol
@themechanic6117 HAHAHA , Hi Johnathan and we both know who put all them plugs in.
putting one of those on 500 dollar tires is exactly what they are meant for. sidewall? no. tread of course. bald tire? why?
Cool
Cheers Terry
I don't have any off-road vehicles anymore so I have my tires repaired by an 18-year-old professional at the tire store. LOL!
@547Rick Hi Rick
Professional is a word highly misused in the tire industry it seems 😅🤣
We plug our parking lot plow truck tires all the time. But then again, they never get driven over 10 MPH.
@@Uticagreens Plugs are still popular for the diyer as it's affordable and easily done .
If it works for and save me money I go for it
