Gas wars: The problem with Nord Stream 2 - BBC News

  • Опубліковано 7 лют 2019
  • Nord Stream 2 is the name of the undersea pipeline that should soon pump more Russian gas into Europe.
    It is a divisive project within Europe and has infuriated the US, which fears that more Russian gas means more Russian influence and less share of the lucrative European gas market for American liquefied natural gas.
    BBC’s Berlin correspondent Jenny Hill has been looking at the issue.

      @Danny Boy C. Right, because Russia has been involved, be it directly or indirectly in 90% of all conflicts fought post the Second World War; leads the world in overthrowing foreign democratically-elected governing entities whilst simultaneously advocating for democracy; creates, supports, funds and arms terrorist organisations around the world in the name of world peace, right?
      Oh wait, that's the Americans.

    • @endeliggnist5066
      @endeliggnist5066 4 роки тому +10

      @Danny Boy C. The Americans created the Taliban, you degenerate. They created a rebel group to combat Soviet influence and subsequently created a mess that they themselves are unable to fix decades later.
      The democratically-elected governments I was referring to are leaders like the former Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh, of whom was overthrown in favour of a brutal dictatorship. The reason? He attempted to nationalise his nation's oil reserves.
      Even if certain leaders weren't elected democratically, it would hardly give the Americans justification to interfere in foreign internal affairs. What's worse is that even if I can look pass America's self-righteousness and ostentatious, arbitrary obligation to unilaterally "promote democracy," why then are they supporting other dictatorships in Latin America? Why are they supporting an undemocratic Saudi Arabia with long standing human rights abuses?
      www.trtworld.com/americas/the-secret-history-of-us-interventions-in-latin-america-23586
      Take the video for example. Germany is democratic. Heck, they are far more democratic than the US. What justification do the Americans have to interfere in Germany's decision to purchase gas from Russia?
      I know who my enemies are. China doesn't interfere in European affairs. Russia doesn't interfere in European affairs. Neither does Iran, nor North Korea, for that matter. At least, not at the same degree that the US does. The US is Europe's worst enemy. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 4 роки тому +2

      But there isn't an increased influence by the US, there is a decreased influence by the US and an increased influence by Russia.
      The issue is that a large part of Germanys energy would be from a singular country, Russia, and that is a security threat because they can jist close it off, or threaten to, in order to apply pressure to Germany amd gain more power over them. And the US is the primary defense force protecting Europe from external threat, the US also has obligations, and geopolitical security of Europe is one of them. Russia and China are increasing alliance and China is trying to carry out its beltway plan.

    Russia is connecting its gas facilities with Azerbaijan to supply them to Europe, bypassing the sanctions. These two countries are partners ..... Europeans need, in any way, to reduce the cost of gas passing through the pipeline to Europe. Or reduce its income, to a minimum. thus making it possible for other countries with a positive characteristic to increase supplies.

Solving the Nato expansion problem will help solve the gas problem as well. Strangely enough it is Germany that is playing a central role in a possible 3rd world war.

    The problem with it is that we in Europe really should be using less natural gas (from Russia and elsewhere). We should be moving towards renewable energy and industry surplus for our electricity and heating, and really only use natural gas in our heavy industry. China, India etc. should be using more natural gas instead of coal. :)

    It’s all about basic economics and business without other factors considered. Without transit fee through Ukraine, there’ll be more profit to be gained from Russian gas export to Europe. The gas might even be cheaper if those fees are deducted and a more stable gas supply to Europe can be maintained by avoiding all the Russian-Ukrainian political tension.

    Poland, advocate of US LNG will pay additionally 19 to 20 billion dollars within 20 year contract period for their present intake volumes, as the needs increase and volatility sets in, these figures might double, security of supply is very risky, and real options have been shunted away, so no additional supply except LNG. The same supply vories are clouding Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, all fortfaited their security and diversity of supply to distant, overseas sources, which as we know by now to often do not keep their obligations, or deliveries if their lawyers, or politicians find the way not to. Скорее всего и так все понимают, почему США против нашего северного потока 2, надо же свой сжиженный, который дороже в 2 раза, кому то продать, а кому как не бесхребетной Европе)) Но смешно то, что даже в самом названии цифра -2 означает , что это второй поток и уже есть первый, и на самом деле есть еще несколько, но почему то они Путину не помогают оказывать влияния на ЕС и кроме санкций и наговоров ничего от них нет. А вот именно второй северный даст такую возможность, может там какой то другой тоталитарный газ запустят)) Интересно в это кто то верит, что газопровод может оказывать влияние?))

    • @yoso585
      @yoso585 5 років тому

      It would not be free trade but crony capitalism. If we can bring them the best price for such goods, they will buy from us. We choose not to. Trade balance is of no importance in reality. It’s a political toy. We trade so much among ourselves (gdp) that the imbalances are null. Imagine this, every time I buy something from you, you have to spend that very amount on something that I have whether it’s a good deal or not. That would be extortion.

    • @MW-dz1hg
      @MW-dz1hg 5 років тому

      It's called capitalism. One buys at the one with the cheapest product to the previously defined quality. Guess what nation that is. Exactly Russia. No energy supplier in Germany will ever buy US GAS, if it is more expensive than Russian with the same quality. so easy

    • @NathansHVAC
      @NathansHVAC 5 років тому

      Then the US should put tariffs on German imports to balance trade. That is only fare.

    • @MW-dz1hg
      @MW-dz1hg 5 років тому

      @@NathansHVAC Well you could do that. But the result will be that the EU will do the same on US products ( cause Germany is part of the biggest trade bloc on planet earth). The eu represtens 450 million customers. The US just 330 million. Since the US already has a trade war with china ( in my eyes the dumbest think one could do, cause china is the future superpower on planet earth) the US can not in any way affort another trade war. But that is just my opinion. In the end the US has to decide what and when they do something. But the US should not think that the other world powers like the EU or China do not react on what ever the US decides to do.
