Germany opens new LNG terminal in record time to replace Russian gas | DW News

  • Germany is one step closer to ending its reliance on Russian gas after a huge ship containing liquified natural gas arrived at the port of Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea. It is a key part of the infrastructure that will allow the processing of the fuel to take place. Germany is counting on LNG as an alternative to the natural gas it used to receive via pipeline from Russia.

      Good day,
To be quite frankly, I quite fairly agree with you in full.
It is a shame what arrogance the EU, but especially Germany, exude (I am also pretty happy, that we left this socialistic organisation).
However, I must unfortunately put your hopes into perspective.
I can understand German (because of my relatives who live in Germany) but I am fortunately English.
The German news agencies, as well as politicians within Bundestag sessions, are quite a lot proud of what "they" have achieved. Unfortunately, you actually never hear about Britain's support, in the German news. In the Bundestag, as well as in the news, the only country that is always talked about is Qatar, and the US (at the beginning it was also Norway).
We should not make anything of it, if you ask me. The Germans see themselves, as the "leading nation" of Europe, without which Europe would possibly collapse, and further possibly much more, what would be called irrational and surreal, out of the view of every normal person.
If I were you, I wouldn't get het up too much about this, that is how the german politicians are.
I wish you, my honourable sir, a splendid day.

  • @rosshilton

The problem will be the price of LNG, not access to it. Much of German industry release open low cost gas, and LNG won’t meet that criteria.

Why shouldn't prices adjust, just like when any other market cycles are influencing our liberal markets?
Mid 70'is we experienced even worse impact on European economy, still no one went bankrupt...

What????? The mid 70s oil crisis led to global inflation that took many years to control, and bankrupt hundreds of thousands of companies across Europe.
According to Professor Peter Stingilin of Laurier University it almost broke up the EEC. Italy was forced to impose a 50% deposit scheme on all imports. Foreign exchange reserves across the EEC dwindled to almost nothing, France and the UK refused to help Netherlands who were desperately pleading for assistance, and the economies of the member nations were knocked back by a decade.

The paradox of it is in the fact that Russia produced LNG (i.e. more expensive than NG piped to Europe) goes to the same facilities and Russia is increasing it's revenue... It has not been mentioned in the report directly, but the expert held back from saying that.

The Russian LNG project has already sold LNG futures locked in long-term supply contracts. New LNG regas terminals won’t really affect their revenue

Europe is paying such a premium for LNG that ships will queue to try to dock here coming from all over the world, when it comes to LNG we do have the option to not take it from Russia.

    • @rlance2418
      @rlance2418 Рік тому +1

@@triple777seven When the project was commissioned the production capacity was already bought out by China. This means that they agreed to purchase the gas for the next 25 years at a price that both the buyer and seller are happy with. This allows them both to be safe from market fluctuations. China has the option to send this LNG it already purchased to Europe if they decide to sell it to European buyers. Russian LNG ships you see in Europe are carrying gas that China already bought years ago, and sold to European buyers.
