More like this please, Alexa. Content = excellent; Presentation = excellent; Star Quality = absolutely! Must remember Salade (lettuce) is a faux ami and does not mean the same as salad in English (a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables, usually seasoned with oil, vinegar, or other dressing and sometimes accompanied by meat, fish, or other ingredients}.
I’ve been learning with Duolingo for a couple of months and was able to understand like 35% of the dialogue (maybe more), but I was just missing some special vocabulary. Thank you so much for this Alexa🙏
@@cjnoffz3351 The word "coriander" derives from Old French, which comes from from Ancient Greek, and possibly derived from "a bed bug" on account of its bed bug-like smell. Due to French influence, this word is used in the UK. "Cilantro" is the Spanish word for coriander, also deriving from coriandrum. It is the common term in American English for coriander leaves, due to their extensive use in Mexican cuisine. So basically, the British took it from French and North America took it from Spanish, so there really isn't a "correct" version. Either way, English speakers are using a loanword based on which culinary culture was influencing them more. And the root itself is not believed to be Greek originally, but a loan word from some other ancient language family, so it is not even that the Greek "owned" the word to begin with either. "Correct" is a tricky issue. If we go by number of native speakers utilizing the term "cilantro" or "coriander", there are about 60 million native British speakers and 300 million native American English speakers, so by sheer math "Cilantro" wins out. Or we could look at the number of 2nd language learners and their preferences (to which there are more British English learners than American English Learners). We cool break it down into dialects and count those (Scotts, vs Irish, vs Black American vs ...). We could look at world-Englishes in India etc, number of countries with a strong preference such as Canada and Australia, historical records showing which is older or more stable, current trends to see which might win out in 200 years, computers to do corpus analysis to see which term is more common globally in speech or writing, or the number of French and Spanish speakers as they are the loanword source, or etc .. "Correct" is complicated.
Merci, Alexa. I moved to France a few months ago, and conversations like this are exactly what I'm hearing on a daily basis. This lesson helped me understand a few terms that I was misunderstanding (like ceci). So very helpful!
Dans la partie où le gars dit : "Bonjour, je voudrais un kilo de pommes et cet ananas-là, s'il vous plaît". Je n'ai juste pas compris la partie "ananas-là". Le reste j'ai tout compris.
Bonjour Alexa.Merci pour cette serie geniale.Franchement j'ai compris tout.Mais je n'ai pas compris pour le premier fois la partie de deux courgettes.Corrigez moi s'il vous plait si j'ai fait des erreurs dans les phrases.

I listening at least 3 or four times before the subtitles. This comment is before subtitle part of the video. I heard some apples, a big salad and 2 coujettes. She also said "anything else" And she also said "is that all." And that's all I understood without subtitles.

Courgettes = zucchini
People have recommended me to watch this UA-cam channel. I am hoping to have a nice watch and learn something new.
J'aime beaucoup cette leçon. Je ne connaissait pas le sens du mot "courgette". In English it's zucchini! 😃
Thanks Kelly; that one had me wondering....
CORRECTION: Americans call it Zucchini, the English/British call it a courgette.
@@ezekielthemack I didn't know that! Wow 😮
@@ezekielthemack Along the same lines, people should probably also know that Corriander is the proper name for what Americans call Cilantro.
