I am 77 now. I spent many hours in all three seats of that wonderful aircraft. I trusted it completely. It’s a shame watching the Bean counters ruin a great engineering company. Boeing is just getting worse and it’s a shame. Their newest CEO is a doubling down on the errors they have made for the past eight years.

I work for a company that was founded and ran by engineers the first 30 years of its life. The founders sold it off to investment bankers who have installed “ managers” and accountants to run the company now. I’ll leave it to your imagination how it’s doing now. When a company is managed by accountants and lawyers, you know what to expect.

The 727 took the place of the DC-3 in terms of longevity and reliability during the jet age. I don’t love flying, but always felt safe and secure on the 727.

What a really great video - Many Thanks for making this and had no idea Kalitta had been phasing them out quite yet - but no surprise. As a pilot and collector of all things airliners, I Loved the 72 so much I acquired the fwd Fuse just ahead of the wing of N777KY a Boeing 727-2B6 which was the team jet of the former NBA New Orleans Hornets and previous to Hornets Group it flew for the Seattle Supersonics and started out her flying career with Royal Air Maroc in 1975. She is getting converted to a Flight Sim and will continue flying - virtually at least, and preserved for the benefit of Aviation and Sports history for us avgeeks in the form of the Legendary Boeing 727. Plus it's just really freaking cool!

A sad day to see another 727 being retired. It is inevitable, but I love the looks of the airplane, thanks for the video and the information about remaining 727's in the area. I also saw in the video as the 727 taxied out the old Learjet I used to work on can be seen in the background that we sold to Kalitta a couple years ago. Keep up the good work, like the video

I remember when the first 727 Jets flew into Buffalo Airport. I was thrilled to watch them land and take off. We lived fairly close to the airport so my mom and dad didn't get upset if I would walk over to the airport and just hang out. Once I asked the stewardess when they came up from the tarmac if I might be able to take a tour of the 727. She happily obliged me and let me down and I got to walk up those rear steps and then visit the cockpit I was thrilled I think I was like I don't even remember how old I was I could have been 11 or 12.
I'll never forget that day and how much fun I had I just wish I could remember how old I was at the time I'm 70 now.
And I too think it is a most beautiful jet !!

In 1992-1994 I was a ramp agent at AUS. We were contracted by TWA near it's end and coming out of bankruptcy. They flew MD-80's and 727s into AUS. One day a flight landed for a turnaround and as usual we waited for all passengers to come off so we could service the aircraft and when I stepped inside this particular 727 something felt off. It felt richer and more luxurious, the fabric and everything else was different. By now I already knew where to look for the plate that stated when the plane was made ETC and this one was made in 1967!!! However, it felt like it wasn't used or updated inside!! While we serviced the interior I thought the windows looked smaller! I waited for it to return to AUS but it never did while I was employed there. I felt that maybe because it was nearing the end of TWA, this one had to be brought out and flown around.

I had hope they return after moving their destination to not too far SBD one Christmas before covid, I believe. They often hauled horses outta ONT and it was nicknamed Air Horse One. Well, we still got Raytheon's 727 in a hangar that goes on some kinda secret testing flight unannounced about once a week. The 727 has been my favorite since the late 60s when I used to think planes rolled from one city to the other, but, what happened was, my mom would walk me to my seat on a plane. I'd fall asleep while taxiing for takeoff & wake up while taxiing after landing. #bluelights #PSA🔴👁 ...😂

It’s true. It’s been said that the ‘27 was one of the most expensive birds to produce because a lot of thought and engineering went into. It was designed to be almost self-sufficient needing little ground support. It’s clever wing design - could go slow or Mach and get in and out of short strips. I put nearly 5k hrs in them as flight engineer.

3 Engines = more jet fuel, also the 727 requires 3 flight crew members to fly it, whereas the 737 only 2 flight crew so overall a lot less cost to operate a 737. This is why the 727 was dumped so fast by private passenger and VIP charter owners years ago and the cost to buy a used 727 was so low these freight operators got them for a good deal.

I remember when Kalitta retired the Beech 18. No tears shed then..... Sure miss the Wright B flyer. 🤣🤣🤣

    0:55 - I think you meant '777' and not '737'.
According to their website - Kalitta only operates 777s and 747s.

No, I meant 737. The difference between the 3 airlines as well as their fleets are explained further in the video.

727 still is a marvelous aircraft. Far better Than the 737 Max

The 727 was a great aircraft in it's day but that was when fuel was 30 cents a gallon. Those JT8's really liked to drink that jet A. FLY NAVY!!!

Any 727 freighters still flying commercially in the United States?

  • @americanrambler4972
    @americanrambler4972 9 місяців тому

I was surprised to learn that there are still a number of 727’s operating regularly in the US. I thought the US noise regulations had driven All of remaining 727s in service off shore. I also thought the 3 man vs 2 man flight crew and higher fuel consumption made the planes difficult financially to operate than other airplane models.

A true JET. These birds sounded like rockets on take off! 😊 until the newer hush kits and fan jets came about, sounding like a blender with a broken motor or a prop plane.

If I was blind folded and sitting in a 727s captains seat and you called out an indicator lever or switch I could put my hand on it… just saying. 46 year retired freight dawg…😮
