Won't see clamshell style reversers on the 727. Unless way back in the day on some earlier models. The -100 series. And the re engined 100 models with Spey engines. Also the 200 series with re engined models.
The DC-8 is N865F my uncle was a Flight engineer on it for Murray Air, I have many hours as a young man working on it with him and my other uncle and grandfather. I’ve taxied it many times. My love for that airplane will never stop
I have many hundreds of hours flying N865F when I was with Rosenbalm (Rosie)… Great learning experience with a lot of great, fun flight and mtx crews! I’d LOVE to fly ol 865 again!!’
@@joer5571 Great memories there, I used to look forward to seeing those JT3 powered aircraft at Manchester, looked stunning. Remember the 'Rosie' callsign well and those heavy departures on a Sunday morning!
When passenger/freight planes were interesting and made noise! From the stellar 727-eye candy to the homely 737-flying sausage, so great to watch these old birds in action.
Super cool footage, that looks like a really interesting airport for spotting. Love seeing these classics still going strong, the 727's, Falcon 20's and the MD-83 are a real treat to see!
N832US, N833US and N842US were indeed Delta birds. All three were retired in 2020 so they must of been snapped up quickly by USA Jet. I worked N842US in YVR back in February. Was nice to see and work a Mad Dog again.
Willow Run is a great airport for spotting classic jets. DC-8 of Samaritan’s Purse, USA Jet DC-9s and now MD-88s, Kalitta Charters Falcon 20s, Aeronaves 🇲🇽 737-400 & other 737 classics and a few DC-9s, a 737-200! WOAH THAT’S a RARE FIND! Kalitta Charters Learjet 35A WHAT A LOOKER! MY FAV BY FAR WHAT A CLASSIC DESIGN & LOVELY BLACK NOSE SPOT! 🤣
I think you got the Kalitte 727 in its last week flying! I just heard they retired it around April 5, 2024. Very cool you got to see it in action! Thanks for going out and recording it!
Re the description, no B-25s or B-29s were built there. It was the largest of several production sites for the Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bomber. Around half of the roughly 18,500 B-24s were built there under license by Ford during WW2. The B-24 remains the most-produced multi-engine aircraft and the most-produced U.S. military aircraft.
Great video Mark ! So many very rare birds. Love those early Boeings - a 727 with winglets, how cool is that ?!? And they lowered the rear air stairs, wow as if you asked them to.
Sweet video! Thanks for sharing with us! I'd love to go out there to watch planes sometime. Is there a better time to go? Also, where do you recommend I go? I live literally 2 minutes from the airport- but I've never gone to spot because I don't know where I'm allowed to park and sit and just watch the planes. Again, thanks for the awesome video! Love seeing those old DL 88's have a new life! ( I work for DL... haha)
Some great catches there. It's sad that it is down to only one operational runway, they still had three just a few years ago. Then a self driving car proving ground was built on the west property, the location of the old bomber plant.
In my opinion the best airports for retro spotting in the United States are(not in order) Toledo(TOL) Detroit(YIP) El Paso(ELP) McAllen(MFE) Miami(MIA) Cincinnati(CVG) Pontiac(PTK)
OMGOSH TY TY... FEEL LIKE I WENT BACK IN A GREAT TIME MACHINE TO THE 80S & 90S , WORKING BACK AT PIE & TPA AIRPORTS!!! ❤❤❤. WISH IT WAS TRUE AND I CAN STAY THERE! I NEEDED THIS. 😊 .
Hey Tom from Boston here. Fantastic video!! I'll actually be out there in July. Looks like you can get pretty close to the aircraft there. How is it there , can you spot ok does anyone bother you or anything? Thanks
Hello. The airport is quite spotter friendly. You might be approached by security like I was but as long as you explain what you’re doing they honestly don’t mind! It seems like the airport understands a lot of spotters are there to catch these classics.
That USA jet 727 and many others come to my hometown in Smyrna, TN frequently from Laredo, TX and then up to Michigan. I've always been curious what they're transporting.
You can see GA traffic anywhere and the video was most likely filmed during the wonder when there wasn’t much Yankee stuff going on. Different strokes for different folks.
That's not an airport. It's a living museum. 26:24 - Kalitta Charters II / Boeing 727 No visible reversers. Great upload.

@@stephenmacdonald1484Excellent answer. Thank you.
I’ve seen that EXACT 727 and I’ve been to that museum before it was cool it has many amazing aircraft ❤❤
You should walk through the old hangars on the west side!
22:05 Gotta love the Dassault Falcon freighter. Looking terrific at 50 years old.
Good ol Ypsilanti... Home of Zantop Airlines back in the day when they had Lockheed Electra's and DC3's

I remember N865F being a regular visitor to Manchester (MAN/EGCC) back in the Emery days. Really miss those Dc8's

Fantastic job! So many quality, historic shots here.
Unfortunately, the last Kalitta 727 was retired five days ago. Only USA Jet tails remaining at YIP
miss the 9s and 727s
This video sure jogged a few memories for me. I instructed at YIP before I started a career as a controller at Willow Run back in the late 60s.
Great vid, thanks for keeping us informed about flight activities here in Michigan.
Fantastic so many classic aircraft with proper engine sounds 👍👍
I’m sure many of those MD-80’s painted on the new USJet livery were ex Delta Airlines

@@lockheedL1049all of them except 831 are former Delta.
RIP N729CK. I'm glad I got one last takeoff video of a Kalitta 727 from ROC when they were sending them here.

You are absolutely right. My mistake
Is that a DC-8 with JT8DS????? No way!

Very, very cool. As an Australian it pains me to say that we hardly ever get tri-jets down in Melbourne. :)

LOL, I was expecting to see "Roush" approach the landing, miss the runway, verse the infield and flip the plane..
Stunning catches of Classic Planes 😍❤❤
Dad used to bring us here for plane spotting before metro was built .
How old are you then?
1st time viewer from Wadsworth, IL. Love the variety of aircraft and the clear videography. Thank you!
did i spot some DC-8s in the background
I am a 727 engineer. Amazing video.
At least there ONE video that’s not April fools
My former employer. K4 is a fun place to earn a paycheck
Fantastic! What a lovely mix, thank you 😊 UK.
I read last week that Kalitta just retired their last 727. Another era ending.
Amazing video ✈️
I was out catching Kalitta's 727 at 26:26 as well that day. Sadly will be retired by the end of this week
Thanks for your coverage on UA-cam!👍👍
I wonder why so many Kalitta planes are there lol
just one more time id like to hear a 727 without the hush kits do a departure.

Real aircraft none of this 737 max trash
I wouldn’t call it trash but I do prefer the older planes
