I like how they remained professional and focused on the task at hand regardless of all the other distractions going on in the background. Proud moment for this father and son.
Every father wants their son to do better. Some have fallen into a pit of dispair and self loathing, but it's there. It's always there. We'd see this more if fathers were treated as 2nd class citizens. He made a man. A benefit to society . Hoop rahhh!!
An E8 is going to more respected than the lower officer ranks though because they are more knowledgeable. It's important for everyone but especially new officers to have an ounce of humility.

By giving respect you are also teaching that person to earn the respect they believe they’re entitled to, and then to give respect where it’s due, and by their actions of giving, then the person receiving the respect will in turn teach another to earn respect if they indeed want to gain respect from others. It’s a circle of respect that will never be broken.
Damn that's some intense stuff going on right there. For anyone missing any context, what I can assume from this is that the father, a senior Non-Commissioned Officer with some serious service history is rendering the first official salute to his son, a newly commissioned Junior Officer, meaning the father is, for the first time, actually outranked by his son.
Not for anything but the father is no longer a non commissioned officer as he is a senior staff commissioned officer and he has done a good job as all marines do
The phone alarm fucked things up, but I would like to believe that’s the grandchild/child and future generation marine throwing a hissy fit. He’s gonna make a great Drill Sergeant one day.

It was a wonderful day when I was promoted to be a lieutenant in my fire department, my dad a Navy vet who served in Vietnam, was able to pin my silver bars on my collar, and he got to do it in the very living room where I as a little toddler once crawled all over his lap like he was my personal jungle gym. So many special moments in that room. Oh man, I understand his holding back tears. Last April I had the privilege of giving my son his first salute at his commissioning.
Congrats proud dad!
Are you an NCO? and if so, how does it feel having your son outrank you?
Congratulations to you and your son. Thank you for your service and your son♥️♥️
@@SilentHotdog28 Yes, and I am honored to have my son commissioned. But he doesn’t outrank me, I’m still his Dad 😅

Such an amazing father. And such an amazing son. We need more men like them today. His Father has raised him right.
As a retired Navy veteran, getting your first salute from your father, who's a high-ranking enlisted man, has got to be incredible. Hoorah!!!!
Thank you for your service. Well done!
Thank you for your service, and facts.
I wouldn't call a sergeant a high rank brother but still...
@gwyn4534 He's a 1st Sergeant. Much higher than a Sergeant. And look at his hash marks. Each one represents 4 years of service. He has 5 of them. He's definitely a high-ranking enlisted man. They are highly respected by both officers and enlisted personnel.
Hes a Master Sgt @gwyn4534
I like how they remained professional and focused on the task at hand regardless of all the other distractions going on in the background. Proud moment for this father and son.
That's the focus and discipline of a DevilDog aka U.S. Marine
Crazy how much was going on in the background

Don't be a tool. You clearly have no idea what this means to these two Marines.@Bigtaz777
Incredible father and son . Some fathers don’t want their sons to surpass them . This one shared in his glory
If you don’t want to see your children do better than you did, there is something wrong with you.
Awesome video.
Every father wants their son to do better. Some have fallen into a pit of dispair and self loathing, but it's there. It's always there.
We'd see this more if fathers were treated as 2nd class citizens. He made a man. A benefit to society .
Hoop rahhh!!
@dianacryer just about to say this lmao. Any normal parent will do anything so that their child's life is better than their own.
An E8 is going to more respected than the lower officer ranks though because they are more knowledgeable. It's important for everyone but especially new officers to have an ounce of humility.

The respect
The pride
The JOY. FATHER AND SON. Beautiful ❤

Huge respect from the United Kingdom
The fact that his voice cracked showed how emotional and proud he was and the son, his legacy seemed so emotional to have his father salute him.... i may not be american or military but i honour and salute anyone who serves his country with honour, dognity and pride.... for its these men and women who gives their lives so that we can sleep at night. I also salute those families who have members serving for their sacrifice also
You can tell that daddy is proud as hell.

Dad looks like he has been in the marines for a very long time, he probably has seen all kinds of stuff, but seeing his boy graduate as an officer, probably is and will be the most proud moment of his life.

"Earned. Not given."
@@D_Chessoh yes, you must GIVE respect also, to those who deserve it, and have earned it.

And his father is damn proud! There is a lot wrapped up in this moment.

Not for anything but the father is no longer a non commissioned officer as he is a senior staff commissioned officer and he has done a good job as all marines do

And now the pride he had having the honor to personally pin me, my dad who is now wheelchair bound, managed to stand up that day just long enough to pin me and give a hug.
