I just found your channel today (and subscribed) while searching for engine mount replacements on a 996 and watched your video from four years+ ago. Great stuff. Ironically, watching this most recent video of yours, I’m also looking at adding a short shifter kit and cables (the Numeric) which seems to be one of the favoured options in its category. I never got around to doing this years ago. Though I’ve owned my 01 C2 since new and had it maintained by a Porsche specialist, I am recently retired and now committed to doing all my own maintenance, a raft of which I’ve just completed. However, with the age of the car now, there are that many more things requiring steady attention. I’m almost feeling like a kid again when I was rebuilding my ’68 Ford Cortina and later MG Midget. I am looking forward to poring through many of your videos. Many thanks in advance.
Hi Marcus, great to hear from you and thanks for your message. What a great story. Owning the car from new and then working on it during retirement is extremely admirable. It’s such a rewarding car to work on. Not sure where you are based, but if it’s the uk, your biggest enemy is the salt and the fusion of steel parts with alloy ones. Unless you’re is a garage queen. You will get stuck into my video no doubt but I can tell you the manifold studs are a PITA and the wheel hubs for replacing the bearings. Nightmare. Just take your time, use heat and an impact wrench to remove those bolts. A lot of mine broke. However, the 996 is a classic feet of Porsche engineering and is put together well. You can also do everything yourself. If you want to do any engine work check out ‘man in a garage’ on YT. Finn rebuilt an entire 3.4 motor in huge detail. So very helpful. I also did motor work but not a rebuild. So you can ask me anything you like. If you are on Instagram (you should be) I’m at My911projects where it’s easier to message me privately. Good luck with your work and speak very soon. Joël
