Watching Kimi’s expression go from anxious on the first hunts to fierce and laser focused after hitting her stride on the third hunt was wonderful. I would absolutely watch a show based entirely on her getting to hunt different animals for the first time in different states.
After hearing / listening to the podcast that went with this episode, I'm so happy it finally came out. Not happy for the stuff that Sean and Kimi had to go through, but it's nice to finally be able to see what actually happened. You boys should have gotten Sean a new motor before getting Chet n Seth a walleye boat. I feel like the last 2 seasons of Duck Lore were half Sean battling that motor holy cripes.
There wasnt anything wrong with the motor, he ran it dry of gas, switched tanks, and couldnt get it to fire off on the new tank and killed the battery trying to start it. It happens
@@TexasSmoking I was mostly just bein silly. There were a ton of motor snafus in season 1, and they continued in season 2. Switching tanks, and not being able to get the motor started is literally the definition of something being wrong with the motor.
I've been looking forward to this episode since I heard the story of it on the podcast. Kimi is a badass! The rest of the story almost needs its own video. How you all struggled with the moral vs legal issues when finding out you had hunted a poorly marked closed area, Cal's advice about honesty, Kimi loosing a toenail and never saying anything are all little tidbits that made for a really powerful story. Keep up the good work!
@@Sportsmanskitchen I think it's easy to make a mistake, it's how you handle it after that counts. They turned themselves in which I think was pretty stand up. I'd like to think I'd do the same, but realistically I'm not sure I would. Regardless it made for a compelling story.
She is so humble and thankful and enjoying every single second of this hunt. New to birds, new places, and newfound love for an entirely different genre. I wish all new hunters could be introduced in this fashion. It’s like a good house, it must be built on a good foundation. This is awesome.
Kimi absolutely has the perfect duck hunting attitude; she could have said "Nah... I'm good with one" after the breakdown. But she stuck with it, and it paid off in spades! Well done!
My first waterfowl experience was very similar to her, 4 years ago sitting all day and not even pulling up on a bird. The next day went to the same spot and a group of mallards came pouring from the heavens and from that moment on it became an addiction. Im glad it turned out well for you guys! Seeing the smile on her face damn near brought a tear to my eye.
Do u know how much I enjoyed watching this, it was like I was with them right beside them..I liked how Kimi stayed positive and not expecting so much. One more thing about our guy how he so patient and composed when everything is turning away from him. He just tries to give his hunting partner a memorable and fun hunting game. He gave opportunities to her first, letting her feel every moment of fun and joy. Thank you so much for this amazing content ,stay safe.
Love the excitement in Kimi! Love to see new duck hunters like that… she basically got the full duck hunting experience all in one week and was still all smiles!
I've really enjoyed watching Kimmie teaching our lower 48 fellas how to harvest the sea. Now to see her falling in love with duck hunting... the guys and galls at meat eater are doing it right. Responsible harvest and family meals.
Love her complete enthusiasm. I live 20 min from world class duck hunting and you forgot how exciting it can be for someone to experience their first good hunt.
I can feel Kim's excitement and enthusiasm like my first hunt. this was awesome. I still shake like a leaf when i drop a mallard drake. This is why i get up in the middle of the night, drive/hike and haul gear in the cold/rain/dark. we go thru all this for what she is feeling :) :) :)
The whole true story would’ve made such a great episode. What an adventure. I can’t believe they went with the whole ‘pretend it’s her first duck’ ruse.
I know what you mean.. I think they had to leave it out though or they risk other people getting the idea they could get away with it too, the risk of releasing it is potentially worse than the reward. Plus if they release it to the public it puts all involved in a position where they now have to prosecute. Acting it out like it was the first bird felt weird but what a kerfuffle to sort out how to handle on the fly. They tried to recapture the sentiment for the story.
As a native new Mexican I'm so proud to see the few times we're apart of meat eater. However when you talk about introducing a new hunter here I get so cooked with anxiety. Our hunting isn't bad, it's just really hard. You will definitely have to earn it. And earn it kimi did.
Being a native Hawaiian watching Kimi spear fish the areas I grew up in Kona HI - good to see Kimi pickup a gun and get some feather meat. Hawaii has some good pheasant hunts along with other birds as well
Kimi teaching rinella to spear fish (at the time was deep into spear fishing) is the reason I started watching meat eater and then later on meat eater hugely contributed on my hunting of my first boar and more in the future hopefully thx kimmi and Sean for a great episode !
Great episode! The peculiar thing about Duck Lore, is that if your engine always worked, the show wouldn't be as good! I've had a few temperamental vintage and classic engines, and their eccentricities have made for some great memories :D
Best one yet. Kimi can really inspire. Meat eater should do an episode with all the emergency items to keep in a boat. Maybe start with paddles. Lol. Or a little lithium jump pack for the battery.
Kimi and the crew are troopers! Having listened to the podcast about this hunt, among the crazy accident that happened, Kimi was soldiering through it all with one of her big toe nail peeled off. Gnarly!
Any MeatEater episode with Kimmy is a good one. Such a cool and joyful person. Also, how’d I not notice that Sean is a lefty before? Cool hunt in NM too!
@@Eric-dr5bj uncle has a 18' lund with a Honda 75 outboard, goes out salmon fishing, duck hunting, all sorts of shit and never and I mean NEVER had the boat break besides a battery dying. With their money there really isn't an excuse to have him in such an unreliable boat. Its stopping them from making better content at this point, which is how they make money. Just my opinion
Kimi Werner! Some seriously great translation from the spear gun skill set to the shotgun skill set! Impressive! A great story and a fun hunt to watch! Thanks for doing what you do, for being advocates for the outdoors and wild foods!
Awesome! Glad you pulled out a jerk line for some decoy action. Thanks for sharing. I have an awesome wood duck hole, that has been shared for many many youth hunts.
I really wish Meateater would wait to talk about what they were doing until after the episode premiers. This is one of those cases where hearing the whole story a few months ago kind of set expectations for this episode. While if I did not know all the other things that happened this would still be a great episode it would have interesting to see and hear about every thing else.
cool too finally see this hunt after listen to episode 328 of the podcast! Best hunting trip story ever on the podcast! Most say it would have been cooler too see the whole fiasco from start too finish :) But i understand that you show the other part but maybe you could have included it in the story! :) Love kimi swimmy though it will be cool with the new spearfishing episodes coming up
I think there's just too much liability involved. Puts the park in a place they have to do something about it, and risks making Meateater liable for other people trying to hunt the area
Most people here already know that a ton of the turmoil was left off the video. So if you wanna hear all of their trials and tribulations listen to Meateater podcast 328: Test My Meat
watching what Kimi can do underwater blows my mind. I would love to hunt Duck with her!! I'd probably drive her nuts asking her questions about diving.
I know a Dakota decoy when I see one... Love mine and haven't regretted paying a little extra since. Flocked makes a big difference when hunting Ohio Public land when the competition is fierce.
Great episode! I watched this episode specifically because I have never duck hunted and wanted to see what it trim to get into it. Unfortunately there was no footage on how Kimi prepared to shoot ducks. How does one go from never bird hunting ever to shooting ducks? Did she shoot trap or skeet to practice? Did someone hand throw clays for her? It seems improbable that one would just grab a shotgun and give it a whirl. Nonetheless I absolutely enjoyed the episode. Thanks!
I pulled out the two wigeon I was saving to watch this episode! So delicious and brings back all this beautifully grueling moments! Thanks Sean!
Kimi what your channel?
Awesome! I'm here from the Meat Eater podcast. Siking myself up for the upcoming waterfowl season.
Hope you get another hunt this year!
great episode!

Sounds like the walleye setup was promotional material provided by the vendors and not purchased
@@Eric-dr5bj I know - I should have been more clear - they should have looked for a vendor for Sean’s motor. I was just bein silly

Yeah it seems they left quite a bit out of the video
What episode is that? I cant seem to find it
NVM, episode 328: Test My Meat
It’s pretty common knowledge to check with the local state park that you’re planning on hunting. They failed to do that. No fault but their own.

I swear this show is one of the high points of my week. Love everything about Sean, such a passion for waterfowl. Thank you!
5-STARS 👍. I see this reoccurring theme where Sean is always having motor problems 🤣😂🤣😂.
Thank you for making waterfowling videos with good and interesting story, and not just dropping ducks left and right

Never thought I could get so much enjoyment out of watching a wigeon hunt lmao great hunt and such a treat to watch Kimi hunt ducks thanks
How beautiful was that. I grew up with duck and goose hunting, to see another woman so impressed, truly amazing. Thank You!
Extremely rare to see women in waterfowl. Hopefully you still participate
@@Eric-dr5bj Not so rare here, grew up on Mississippi Flyway in SE Missouri, still hunt every year with my family.

So cool to see, it put a smile on my face to see that first duck go down and how excited they were.
Dude, y'all got to get this man a boat that's more reliable 🤣 or give him some oars and a sail. It's like every episode with the boat
I was super surprised that he didn’t have backup oars on board, especially with the previous motor issues he’s had

This episode is an honest look at duck hunting, the good the bad, the highs and the lows. Great show! keep up the stellar work!
I love this series, but this episode is something special!
The are few things better than watching someone take their first duck. Well done to the both of you!

Great episode! You guys did such a good job of telling the story and conveying the emotion of a first hunt.
The more I think about it there is a lot of similarities to spear fishing and duck hunting. Hiding, school/flock, etc.
They way they film waterfowl hunts is best on UA-cam. Someone get this man a new mud motor though.
Kimi is awesome hope y’all have her on a hunt across the country with with some more firsts 🤙🏻
Favorite episode so far! Love Kimis excitement
