I have been trying to compose music in the style of Sonic CD for years, never managed to do it D: althought i'm very satisfect with the result I got with the Scrambled Egg remix, composing is much more harder. Good luck for you! =D
I love how it manages to keep that upbeat funky feel of Present Stardust Speedway while 1:04 to 1:20 (roughly) feels like it kinda has that piano to almost indicate the beauty of the song but also a but of a melancholic meaning as to why you're in the past to begin with. Anyone who has played Sonic CD knows that you're going to the Past to save the Future, and I feel like with Stardust Speedway being the second to last Zone in the game I feel like this conveys a bit of a sense of urgency as it felt like that part of the song was asking me to find that generator to save the future. Just me?
This exactly. I left a comment like this and I feel like I placed it pretty well: SSZ's chorus feels like looking up at the sky and feeling awe. Seeing the beauty in that it doesn't last forever, considering the situation. Exactly like Starlight Zone, it's the feeling of "I don't have enough time to waste not admiring the world I'm saving." It's the feeling itself that's beautiful, too. In allowing yourself to slow down for just the moment, you accept the fact that *it is only for just the moment*. Sonic may have peace by night, but he'll be breathing in Eggman's smog by day. He looks at the stars, reflects on his adventure thus far, and says, "I'm happy to have made it this far and I'm happy I have to keep going.".
The chorus with the piano and organ to me symbolises the "stardust" in stardust speedway. It makes me imagine looking up at the sky and admiring the beauty of the city around me; taking in the last peace and quiet I get before entering MMZ. There's something about it that speaks to me, saying, "The most beautiful things can't be admired forever. That's what makes them beautiful."
FANTASTIC WORK! love the fact you kept the delay with most of the instruments, i never knew there was a delay track till i heard some of the deconstructions
Thank you! I was very careful, in fact, i used a XMPlay plugin that let me decompose the song in various tracks, and I analised each one very carefully while doing it! I'm planning in future videos showing the whole restoration process of some of the past song or beta loop. Probably I will do that with Metallic Madness Past!
Damn, this is insanely close to the original in a much higher quality. I noticed a lack of reverb on certain instruments and the drums just sound off when in higher qualities, but it's a great recreation in the end
I'm a harsh critic cause i've heard these songs for over 20 years, but there's a good reason this video has (4/29/21) 408 likes - no dislikes, great work! Best restoration i've heard yet
This is literally impeccable. No popular restorations quite got the feel of this song right, except for this one. You guys deserve milions more views and subs 🥰
m a n 0:48 just sounds so magical, i don't even know what the lead instrument(apart from the piano) is, it's an unrecognizable sound, but it just sounds so g o o d i would make an essay about this part but someone above already said all i was gonna say so...
I remember going out for a ride on my motorbike one night during December, listening to this song while riding past all the Christmas lights everyone had covered their houses in. Truly felt like I was actually riding on Stardust Speedway. Will never forget it!
Coming soon! I will probably first do Metallic Madness past, and then Collision Chaos past! I have done one some years ago, but I believe i can get better results so I will do a new version =)
The original felt like an old record being played on a record player… Edited: If the past themes weren’t put into the sega CD that deep with its quality then maybe the US Soundtrack could’ve had past themes instead….
Well, it's complicated to reply that. In the CDDA songs, they usually use the full range of the synthesizer presets. Let me explain: in the synthesizers, depending of the note you press, it will have a different waveform. Sometimes some variations also happens depending of how hard or soft you press the key. The pasts usually have only one waveform per instrument (one of the rare exceptions is Quartz Quadrant past, which have 2 piano samples for the piano lead). Now, in all my restoration I try to add more dynamic, to make the sounds less static, to make em sounds more like the CDDA. But sometimes is hard to do that. For example, i'm soooo used to how the Stardust Speedway past saxophone sounds, that I could not use the full range of it, it just sounded off for me. So i have ripped a single waveform and used it in high quality. So it depends a lot. For example, in my Wacky Workbench restoration, I released both, one using some synthesizer presets, and other with samples. I personally prefered the preset version, I think it sounded better than the past and sounded more like CDDA too. I'm currently working on a Collision Chaos past restoration, and i'm trying to make it sounds more like CDDA too. Is being very hard, I love how the TR-909 have a lot of variations in the CDDA themes, i'm trying to do that in my restoration. I should post it next week. The CDDA are, from what I have noticed, always tunned in A=440hz too, while the pasts variate a bit, sometimes lower, sometimes higher. In my restorations I always tune it in A=440hz, the only exception is my QQZ with +60cents, I could not resist posting a version of it in this pitch.
@@CollisionChaos Is this why the piano sounded slightly out of tune on the original track; there was only one sample? It sounds perfectly in tune on your recreation though!
Man, you inspired me to create music based off sonic cd's feel

Now it only has 4 which is an insane ratio still
This is a fantastic restoration! especially when 1:05 kicks in. Good job!
I feel most of the instruments in present are also in the past which made this really easy to get most of the samples. Really good restoration btw

To busy breakdancing to say this is awesome and this isn't my favorite track, come back later
I wonder what this would sound like with someone on a real sax performing the Korg sax bits.
YES

Is this kinda recreating what it would (probably) sound like with CDDA sound?

Fun is infinite... with SEGA Enterprises
Parece música de carreras 🏍️
Una cosa me gusta el tema ❤
Mh, the main descending melody isn't quite right... the notes are meant to be "doubled", so to speak.
Bro, how do you make these recreations? Make a video of you doing so I'd love to know
is it okay if i make a looped version of this and upload it? i will of course link back to this video (with your permission)
Sure
Hey, can I use this in a video I'm making?
Quick question, whats the tempo for SSZ Past? I'm trying to make an accurate midi but I can't find the tempo of the song anywhere.
They have used 179.500 BPM, but the note durations/spaces are weird. I think you can use 119.600 BPM, and then use 1/3 step to sequence the notes.
@@CollisionChaos Thank you!
no need to make midis, we've got the entire past soundtrack in midi form, ripped from the game's format (idk the actual name of it)
@@ViewpointProd Is there a download link to those midis?
I wonder what drum machine that is
The SSZ past drums? DrumBase5000 and Dance Industrial
better than mania's version imo
Where we can download your tracks in high quality?
I need to start including download links in the videos! But here is this one: www.dropbox.com/s/rq1gcfbpqsea0dd/FINAL%20VERSION%20V3.wav?dl=1

You can find the sounds in DrumBase5000, EastWest Dance Industrial, X Static Goldmine, Roland D70, Roland JD800, EMU Procussion, Korg T2
