- Stardust Speedway Past from Sonic CD (now with a loop and fadeout for UA-cam), originally composed by Naofumi Hataya, lovingly remixed and remastered to CD quality, using the original sound sources and other sounds used in Sonic CD!
This remaster comes our way, thanks to Nuclear! Best known for his research work on Sonic 4 Episodes 1 & 2, his deconstruction of various sonic games, and restoring music from2 the Sonic Advance series, Nuclear has been working on Sonic CD remasters, long before this channel was a thing! Together with him, ChilliusVGM, and Collision Chaos Radio, we intend to restore all of the past themes from Sonic CD! For Stardust Speedway Past here... Nuclear 100% knocked it out of the park! No joke, as soon as I heard it, I knew it was perfect, and needed no changes. He got it so perfect, that it's still blowing my mind! Its important to note the past versions of these songs are compressed intentionally. Its the reason that the past songs are the same in the us version, they are hardcoded in the rom. This is done because the past versions were meant to sound more archaic and worn.

While that is true, they also compressed them because they needed to save space for the actual game.

@@SM-ok3sz sega CD games use CDDA for the musics (standard audio CD) and it take a lot of space in the CD, so it is quite plausible that some of the Sonic Cd songs had to be left out of the red book,

You can actually hear metalllic madness. It's in the Google drive link in the description with some other levels. Palmtree Panic and Collision Chaos are the only ones left that hasn't been made as of now. Even though we found an uncompressed version of palmtree panic past. It still a little different from the final so they'll probably do it too.

Considering the modding scene for CD that exists on pc I hope we could get to play the game with these versions of the tracks someday
For the 1996 port it’s really easy. Basically just have to replace the MP3s that SEGA PC Reloaded lets you use.

This is probably my favorite remaster on the channel
Absolutely amazing! I'm really happy to see that one of my very favorite sonic tracks has been restored to this quality. Stardust Speedway Past has been one of my very favorite tracks from Sonic CD since around 2005 as I only had the a demo version of Sonic CD for PC around 1997 (The Demo came with Sega Rally Championship and same composer I believe that worked on Sonic CD too) and was able to play the full version of Sonic CD on an emulator in 2005. I used to spend ages in Stardust Speedway Past just listening to the tune over and over it really has a lot of elements I love in 90's Dance/Trance music like at 1:01 the Piano scaling is really beautiful melody probably my favorite part of the song. It kinda makes me teary eyed as a 90's kid having grown up listening to music that has similar tones and feels. Long comment but I have been waiting for many years to see someone restore this track and since I was learning music was thinking of doing it myself but then I found this :D
The piano is actually the same exact one as the one in Bad Future

Easily the sexiest remix I have ever heard.
Came back to listen to this after 2 years and it still sounds amazing! The first time I heard this, it felt like I was sent to heaven! Also, can you make a CD-quality version of Collision Chaos Past? Almost all of the past tracks get CD-quality remasters, so, can you please do it?

@@ChurchofKondoh Yeah, but it still feels like it was meant not to fade out so sharply, regardless. Besides, it ALSO has the swing rhythm to it, so it must be deliberate...
and on another note, it's a good deal slower than the original track too. but I guess that was covered already
@@yomama9390 delay effects typically are timed to the beat as to not clash with the rest of the mix
@@TorutheRedFox But we're not talking about a beat that's 1 2 3 4, we're talking about a beat that's 1 23 41 23 4. That's the beat it matches. If they wanted it to not be notes then they would have followed the former rhythm and nothing would have been lost.

How am I just realizing the original Metal design had a mouth, good gosh I hate it lol.
Even tho i like these remastered, uncompressed version of the songs, this song bothers me a bit. Stardust Speedway Past is my favorite song from the game, and i feel like some of the things added in this version weight it down for me. However the production is actually insane, i can't give very much fair criticism
If the games audio was mastered to redbook audio anyway, why didnt they use the full quality samples in the first place?
In an interview with Hataya for the 20th Anniversary release of the Sonic CD JP OST, he says that the past stages were intended to sound "cheaper" and "prehistoric."
The quote from the interview:
"I’m excited for people to hear that, but also, for the “past” portions of the stages, it being the past and all, we used cheaper sounds and tried to evoke the music of a prehistoric religion… in contrast, the “future” portion of the stage is more techno."

Is this supposed to be a 1:1 recreation of the original? The intro is different and it's slower than in the game.

This one in particular is an imagining of how the original CD song was gonna be before they changed it to FM samples. As we learned from Salad Plains Past being found in a prototype, they had dedicated intros and were slightly slower pace (because Genesis FM didn’t output at proper BPM, it would approximate it to work with clock cycles resulting in a slight speedup or slowdown. You can see how frustrating it was to write the drums in my Sonic 2 Boss restored video)
