As we get further into my series of more obscure Space Marine Chapters, I decided to follow some advice and come up with my own homebrew Chapter to test out a scheme that I needed to get out of my head! I've been painting my Dogs of War army in this same Orange and Black scheme and I needed to know how it looked on some Space Marine armour! What do you think of my Sentinels of the Hallowed Star? Got anything to add to the lore? Please let me know! If you have time, drop your own homebrew chapter lore down in the comments, let other people have a read of what you've come up with!
Basing scheme:
AK Terrain Texture paste in Firelands-perfect dupe for Martian Ironcrust but a lot cheaper!
Allow each stage to fully dry in between!
Gryph-Hound Orange (contrast)
Ryza Rust (dry)
Screaming Skull (layer) Light drybrush over the top!

Every time I get the urge to do a different Space Marine chapter, I remind myself I could just do a Kill Team of them, and stick with my main 2 chapters.
That’s actually a really good way of doing it, that way you get more complete teams and more games trying out different models
Soul Drinkers, please! Love the content!
Already on the list, will get to them soon! Glad you're enjoying!
I'm wondering how that would look with a purple black, maybe a one to one of black Templar and Genestealer contrasts or even a two or three to one favor black, the just a drop or two of the appropriate purple on the wet pallet, or maybe a drop of the purple contrast used to thin the blacks and grays. Alternatively if it wouldn't fuck up the orange maybe an all over wash Druchi Violet before the final highlight.
That wound be cool.
Seems like they would most likely be a fast response force.
Trye
Storm Wardens!
On the list!
The mighty orange and black😍. I'm just finishing up my Questing Paladin on foot in the same scheme, and I can confirm, orange and black can do no wrong 😅
It’s so good.
I love your use of orange and black, and it works really well for space marines! If you ever do chaos marines, I’d love for you to do the Warp Ghosts and the Pyre. Both are lesser known chapters but look really promising! Thanks for another great video!
I shall keep them in mind.
To me they look too much like halloween and all the orange and black candies every single store decides to sell :p
But as always, if someone enjoys painting their toys a certain way they shouldn't let others tell them it doesn't look good, its personal enjoyment that matters :).
If I painted this color scheme I would probably make it in a similar style to the Sons of the Phoenix and Necropolis Hawks since I think it would help give the scheme more harmony :)
Halloween is exactly why this scheme works so well for me 😄
interesting. but why chaos black then grey seer? vs just grey seer?
Chaos Black is a solid coat, Grey Seer is a lighter coat from above to help the contrast cling better and add light/dark shadows to the model to see it better before painting
I’m gonna do a video on how I paint my own chapter the sons of Neptune
That’s a great idea!
My army is very similar to yours but its green and white (dark sons) super cool like yours
Oh that sounds really cool, very nice man
Echoing what someone else here said: Great colour scheme and lore!
I'm working on my own homebrew Chapter at the moment: THE SHARKS OF OMEN. Their name, a cheeky play on Arks Of Of Omen, started off as a placeholder.... BUT IT STUCK because it wasn't long before I realized that it fit the GrimDark way I wanted to paint them better than the other names I entertained.
The Chapter is organized into 7 Schools named after the following, actual Shark sub-species (though two of the Chapter's Schools have modified names):
1. GREY REEF: The Characters, HQ, and Veterans
2. HAMMERHEAD: Aggressors and Terminators.
3. THRESHER: Intercessors
4. TAURUS: Assault Intercessors (I went with Taurus because "Bull School" sounded lame, but their School's insignia is a Bull's head)
5. TIGER: Outriders and Speeders.
6. CALIGINUS: Scouts, Reivers, Incursors, Infiltrators and Eliminators. Caliginus is a play on "caliginous", which means "dark, dim, murky, obscure, dusky" and there's a species CALLED the Dusky Shark.
7. MEGALODON: Warsuits, Dreadnoughts and Tanks.
The Chapter's armour is coloured Abyssopelagic Grey (a custom colour of mine, essentially a deep/navy blue-green grey) with Black pauldrons, and glowing Orange lenses in the helmets.
They're both Fleet- AND planet-based, their Homeworld an ocean planet called Pelagios whereupon their Fortress Monasteries and training facilities are situated. The Chapter draws recruits from the populations spread across the planet's 7 moons (Epos, Mesos, Bathyos, Abyssos, Hados, Demersos and Benthos).
Love all of that. It’s going to be such a cool army.

Thanks!
Even before I settled on the Chapter's name "The Sharks Of Omen".... I KNEW this Shark-themed Chapter HAD TO BE GRIMDARK and The Carcharodons influenced my decision.
This scheme would look ace on a Blood Bowl team.
Ah damn it. Yes it would.
Nice - only advice I'd give is that the Red Base was a bit close to the orange - I'd have used either a Dark Brown or maybe Grey Moon type base,
It’s my go to base for loyal marines, so they all match for larger forces! You’re probably right though 😄
Looks really cool mate, well done.
Would be interesting to see a Terminator in that scheme if you've ever got the time.
Keep up the good fight 💪
If I could be cheeky and make two requests please...
Emperors Children Chaos Marines & Raptors Chapter.
I second the Raptors chapter idea ! 😎
Already down.
Done sir.
Looks great as always. Would like to see some orange and black termagants.
I use Reikland Flesh Shade to shade orange as well.
Yeah it works really well for the tone!
Another great painting job. I see them as being fleetbased and utilizing mostly assult based marines for rapid response with terminator and dreadnought units as heavy support when needed. Love the foundation lore you have started.
Oh that’s so cool love that.
Orange is my favourite color too! Thank you for this video.
You’re welcome, glad you liked it!
Would love to see a Soul Drinkers marine. Purple can look so good when done well!
They’re on the list, got a few requests for them!
@@MediocreHobbies that's awesome. I can't wait to see your take on them. I'm going to do a custom purple chapter soon, so that I can use them as either blood angels or dark angels.
I'm definitely stealing this scheme for my AoS Chaos Warriors :) Awesome vid
Please do!
Would look great on Tau. Orange armour with black spot colours and markings would be cool.
Do not think it would work on Orks, High Elves, Necrons or Seraphon. Although the Skinks would look awesome I don't think the Saurus would work.
Yeah there’s a few colours that would clash for sure, maybe that will be a future video-finding where it doesn’t work 😄
As a guy from the Orchard County, I can appreciate an orange colour scheme lol! Awesome job
Thanks! 👍
Do you have a video of how you go about picking what colors to use? Like matching your base colors which are contrast paints to your highlight colors which are the acrylics? Or do you just pick the scheme you want then choose a darker contrast paint to match the acrylic?
Basically yes. I just substitute the Barbary for a similar contrast.
Fancy doing the Celebrants?? :P
I can try for sure.
Second time commenter! Wanted to let you know I love your positivity and enthusiasm you bring to your hobby! Thank you for entertaining us.
Ah cheers man, really really appreciate hearing that! Thanks so much for watching and glad you’re liking the content 🙌
I think they should be based out of a former xenos space station the ad mech have converted to their needs, orbiting a death world they take aspirants from.
I like everything except the xenos station. The wood never use one just blow it out of the starts.
Do you thin your contrast paint? I am trying this method and the contrast (AP speed paint) is so much darker than what you show
Nope pallet to model.
Yep loving that orange, I’d like to see you try and make it work on a renegade marine as I think it’s going to be too heroic, but I’d love to see you prove me wrong. 😃
Hahahhaha
Watching and listening to you paint is so relaxing.
This is a really sweet scheme, and the quartering effect is beautiful
It would be interesting to see how this scheme would look on the chaplain of the Sentinels. Keeping the chaplains armour mostly black and not quartered, with a subtle use of muted oranges somewhere would be nice to watch.
Please keep making these. It is educational to see how the same paint scheme looks across so many different armies and games
Cheers pal. And yes so much more to come.
I'll have to try that orange recipie for my terracotta knights
Already love the name!
Very neat looking scheme! I think you should keep the enemy a secret to make the game more interesting.
That's a good idea!
I would love to see the orange and black scheme on some drukhari
I did one! Can confirm it works perfectly for them
I do teal and orange for my Luna Wolves remnant chapter.
Oh that would look really well, nice choice!
striking color scheme!
cheers man
I would love to see a Gladiator tank done in this colour scheme 👌
That’d be sick looking
Love them. If their enemy is a time manipulating species, maybe you could include the Ordo Chronus, the branch of the Inquisition that deals with temporal rifts.
I've already mentioned the Brazen Minotaurs, but another chapter I've grown to like is the Tome Keepers from White Dwarf. Would love to see your take on them.
Oh ye I’d love to paint one of those up i have there transfer and all.
@MediocreHobbies yeah I got two sheets of them from White Dwarf freebies. If I didn't have too many marine armies already, I'd start a force of them.
that would make a really cool seraphon army
Yes it would!
A Yellowjacket is another name for a hornet in the states.
It is indeed. It’s a cool name.
Another amazing video ❤🔥
Always appreciate that 🙌
Can you do a Dark Krakens scheme at some point?
Oh yes.
Awesome! A Dreadnought in that scheme would look stunning, and I could definitely see a Sentinel of the Hallowed Star member of a Deathwatch Kill Team.
Ye that would be cool. Dont be tempting me like that.
@@MediocreHobbies Consider yourself tempted!
Great color scheme and lore!
Thanks so much :)
Looks good very good !
Thank you!
Blood Ascendant
Fair.
👍
:)
its an amazing scheme quartered marines always look so cool and effective but it is an stunning scheme look forward to seeing more of this chapter and more of this series
Thanks Glyn! Yeah quartered schemes already look great and they’re way easier than they look!
Who Dey?
Do you watch the video? 😄
yeah, I watched it. your guys are the same colours as the Cincinnati Bengals. the chant is "Who Dey? Who Dey? Who Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?
Who Dey? Who Dey? Who Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?
Noooooobody!"
Fans are Who Dey Nation, the masscot is a tiger called Whodey.
visual humour, really, but I thought you'd google it - I can see the confusion though!
oh no, I already replied to this, then forgot- it gets worse - I will quit while I'm only a litte behind!
What if they found a still functioning foundry silently creating an army of Men of Iron? Slowly churning out a new army of revolt.
Oh that’s cool.
