@@asahoura2798 Did I say anything about talent? Although I have seen a few very talented musicians playing drunk, and not up to their usual standards. They still had fun. And Haley is a talented musician.
Smiley Lewis wrote and recorded the classic original version of "I Hear You Knocking." White singer Gale Storm quickly covered Smiley's recording, resulting in a pop hit, something that happened often in the 1950s, when radio often was segregated. The Smiley original features Huey "Piano" Smith at the piano and other New Orleans session players of the era. Fats Domino's co-writer, producer and bandleader, Dave Bartholomew, produced the definitive Smiley Lewis version. In 1979, Dave Edmunds' remake of "I Hear You Knocking" became an international hit. In his rendition, Edmunds pay homage to Smiley Lewis, Huey Smith, Fats Domino and Chuck Berry, saying their names.
Great cover.....next to the original....this is like....the 2nd best I've heard. Love the "bluesy" style..... and for you 11 haters....push off.....lol
Haley is amazing. I do wonder though if being on American Idol was a double-edged sword. On one hand it launched her into the public eye. On the other, people unfortunately will not recognize her talent simply because she's been on the show.
Malcolm Hunter The way I look at it, I would have never known of her and had all these amazing wonderful experiences the last 3+ years had I not happened to turn on a show I never watch the Season Haley and Casey were on. She also played it exactly right. She didn't play to win, and get tied down to a long oppressive contract that forces her to tirelessly tour singing other people's songs. American Idol gave her the platform to reach fans that few opportunities do, fans like Rachel Calderon and I and many others who are compelled to support this amazingly talented young lady who happens to be a sweetheart to boot. She now has the opportunity, with Ole, to write her own songs, creating constant revenue streams (thnx to Ole's distribution) that will pay her for the rest of her life, while Ole invests in her by sending her to song camps and networking her with some of the most talented people in the industry People who want to disregard her because of being on American Idol are looking for something other than a true talent and a unique, once in a generation vocalist.... their loss, I don't need to spend energy worrying about them, rather redirect that energy to helping Haley create new fans that can see past the method and enjoy the talent :)
I absolutely agree with you. I'm glad she entered the competition - I may never have heard of her otherwise. It still irks me that she gets tarred with the same brush as the ones who entered that are manufactured into being "stars" rather than gaining stardom because of their talent. She didn't need AI to prove she's talented, but it helped bring her to the fore. I love the amount of exposure she's had recently. Thanks to UA-cam people can hear with their own ears rather than making judgements based on the bad reputation of AI.
Great song for Haley, and there are a lot more songs from before the 60's that would suit her tremendously well. Old Time Country Blues sung by people like Doc Watson, Big Band Jazz/Blues numbers by people like Jimmy Rushing as well as more Fats Domino, early Elvis, Jerry Lee and possibly Chuck Berry. Still, between writing and performing I suppose she only has a limited amount of time available.
To be honest, with the hundreds of videos I've edited, (she did ALOT of covers in the early days), I'm most excited to hear her original music. I think all of her albums are fantastic, all but one were filled w/ original songs. Listen Up! her 'music industry' debut is her first and always will hold a special place for me. Better might be my favorite of her 3 original albums although as time goes on, and editing the songs for this channel, Lo-Fi Soul continues to grow for me, I love Baby Doll, Don't Know How to Love You, Broken Record etc.... I LOVE her song writing, so eclectic...so yes, I'm hoping for a show of all originals except Creep and Can't Help Falling in Love...which are crowd pleasers and Haley has to perform those.... I think Haley needs to sing songs of her time. When she gets older, maybe in her 40's/50's, then maybe she can slide into the Jazz stuff. For now, I want to hear what she's got in her vibrancy. She's gone 7+ years of singing covers, let's hear "Haley" :)
@@HaleysTusk I've got a lot more into modern music since listening to Haley. However, as far as covers go, most of hers are 60's and later. I'd started following jazz by then and was hearing very little of what was happening in Pop and Rock. I didna like the group Rock much compared with the early Rock soloists, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Fats Domino who were replaced by the groups. So a lot of that 60's onwards music seems fairly modern to me. However, by listening to the originals she's covered I have started to appreciate that there was a lot more creativity then than I realised. I obviously missed out on a lot. Mind you her versions are so often far better because she is a far better vocalist than most of the singers she' covering. I don't always realise when Haley is harking back to that era in her own original material much of which is really good, apart from the fact that it's herself singing it. There's a lot of older music, big band and blues, and some of the American Song Book material that I like very much, and would love to hear Haley put her inimitable stamp on them. She's done some super things with NOJO and the No Vacancy Orchestra, and more recently with Jeff Goldblum. However, I'm pleased at just about everything she does anyway so I'll enjoy her Lo-Fi Soul promotion tour in Glasgow hugely whatever.
If you watched "Haley's Journey" vids on my channel, you'd hear her Chicago accent is much thicker. Her interview 'voice' is a lot better nowadays, although the accent will slip out now and then, especially when she says the word "Chicago" :)
As far as Haley's 'diction' goes, I think that's an artistic choice, more to do w/ the sound than the lyric. Listen to Haley's cover of "Oops I Did it Again" w/ PMJ....she really makes no effort to finish off many of the lyrics or words, which in a way contributes to the 'laid back' appeal of Scott's composition. I don't know that much about Jazz, but I've seen said that many Jazz 'greats' , especially those known for scatting, including Ella Fitzgerald, sometimes had a tendency to not be overly concerned w/ the diction or clarity of the lyric as long as it's not important to the song.
++HaleysTusk I've no prejudice against (most)accents, having a very non-Standard English one myself. However, I must say that Ella Fitzgerald had very clear diction. In present times, Morgan James is another very fine singer whose diction is very clear. It doesn't matter to much to me really. I just sit back, knocked out by Haley. She actually sounds clearer on her latest album "What's That's Sound", a great album. Definitely the best for me. The arrangements, the bands, and the production which allowed her great voice to come through so well. It's easy for people to say, Och, they're only covers, but she is an exceptionally fine singer who has the voice to sing better than nearly all the original 60's singers. That's why she sounds better than the originals. She's a far better singer!
Mark Ballas is having a great time, well, they all are. I just love to see happy people enjoying what they are doing. This was a great performance.
Haley makes every song she sings her own! ❤️❤️❤️
First 10 seconds play, and I fall in love with the song, the voice, the look. So underrated. *cries*
She is so good because she put's her heart and "old soul" into every note.
Very good version of this song by this amazing loveley singer!
refreshing to see people having REAL fun on stage :)
I LOVE seeing musicians having fun and getting into the music and the crowd. The only thing better is being one of those musicians having fun!

She is just so cute, wiggles in all the right ways and has such an amazing voice and singing style.
So cool. The voice combined with the personality... Perfecto ❤️❤️❤️
I love the crowd participation and the surprise ending.
Wow!!!!!! What a voice and style!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Fantastic, Haley!

Yes. Her creep cover is amazing

Haley please do River Deep Mountain High play Tina Turner... but don't try to overdo it.
Andrew Carl Elliott Tina Turner’s career was all about going over the top...don’t think anyone is in danger of “overdoing” Tina Turner 🙃
Haley looks a little like Miley to me. She should go far, but the way the business is now, will she?
