Dear Shannon, I'm so glad I found your channel. I love playing with collage, and greeting cards. I enjoy watching your tips & techniques, and generous sharing. You are so creative & inspiring. Thanks a bunch ! As for the page with the baby next to the bottle, well I would just cut around it and move the baby to another page. Then you could work on the original page with the " window".
Okay, so I'm watching the video of this awesome paint chip journal and I'm thinking "hmm, I wonder how Shannon decides where to put stuff?" And sure enough, I'm getting to the end and dancin' a jig in my brain over the fact that you've answered my question. That's what I like about your videos. You talk about your thought process. By the way, I made my journal last week and just love it. It has a Shannon-inspired cover (painted paper like) and it's been sitting there empty waiting for me to do something with it. I'm ready to start gluing! Thank you!
I like your style creating from a piece then finding a place to put it! I also like all your creations! I'm glad to see your videos again! You do amazing work and u r so entertaining! TFS
That was fun. Big Bertha is really coming along nicely. You will have to let us know what it weighs when you are done adding stuff. I create almost the same way you do. I'll find something nifty and then start thinking about which junk journal to put it in, then which page... I have several junk journals.
I love this book! Ive been collecting paint chips for about 20 years now and I am definitely making a junk journal with them but I love your style with the collaging you did...fabulous!
Pink Poodle Crafts Do you ever watch Deb Packwood? Her channel is called Artzology. She just recently made a journal from paint sample books...it was fab!
ohh cool,... ill have to check her out... i dont know how ive never seen her before (watch ill go to her channel and discover Im a subscriber lol story of my life haha)
Loved this walk thru your creative brain. TFS Got my Daddy Van's and am doing my kitchen cabinets and am doing a tag swap and will be using it on my tag!!
This is such a fun book and I love the practice of starting with the bits you like and finding homes for them. Often a journal page will come about for me because of some bit that I know I want to add to the finished page. I do not do this type of art, nor do I have an awesome collection of random bits....so I just get to enjoy yours :D.
Claudia Rossi You're probably thanking your lucky stars that you don't have a bunch of random bits since they'd be one more thing to pack up or deal with!
Lol I love Big Bertha! We used to have a car we named Big Bertha- big brown ugly thing. Yours is much more colorful. I've almost got up enough courage to do step 3 in journaling by 5's. I didn't wait for the paint to dry before I did step 2. What a mess but fun. Thanks so much Shannon you actually make people feel like they can do it.
Oma's Thoughts They CAN do it! It can be a little scary, just do the best you can. Your goal isn't to create 20 awesome pieces of art, your goal is just to do each session. You can do that!
OK my picture of you and Jason is getting clearer. Baby vs bottle? Cover up that baby! I can not believe he hasn't snuck sneaked snucked into Bertha and erased the eyes out of one of your magazine women yet. Seeing that Altoids man makes the whole book priceless! Seeing where you are going with this is fun and now I wish I had begun one. Fantastic use of all the junk mail.
Any update coming for Big Bertha . It's been a while. You've inspired me to make my own Big Bertha, I'll show her on my channel when she's ready? I really hope you will drop by and come see when it's uploaded. I'll let you know. Thanks Shannon for the inspiration!
i have started collecting me some paint sample paplets so i can start making me one of these journals. but i sure do wish i had the cover u got for urs. its my favorite color purple and everything.
Shannon Green yea im trying to figure out what i could use that would kinda be like urs. was it a rug? i have thought of rug, pillow shams chair coushions, tapestries. lol
It was upholstery fabric that I had used to cover my dining room chairs. A good substitute might be some place mats. You can sometimes find heavy funky place mats for a decent price and they'd be a good size too.
Darlin you just crack me up big time.. Love it!....Just wondering..Do you thumb through a magazine from the back to the front?...I sure do.... Big Bertha is wonderful... It's soooo nice to know I'm not the only one clipping pics from mags.. and saving bits and pieces... For me it's almost an addiction..and partly from working in the art world for so long.... One of the biggest fights with DH was him accidently throwing away some of my pits and pieces.... Wooowee.. near caused me to get out my big switch... LOL... I'm sooo glad my collect of things that's become journals.. are now an "in" thing.. before they were just thought of as weird... But then that's just me... Keep showing Big Bertha's progress... hugs..cj LOL..!
like how you do your thing lol......building a sort of sticker book .. need to look into getting some of that van stuff I have some napkins I could use it on and put in my book
Marie Emond If you order from Daddy Van's website before the end of this month you can use the coupon code SHANNONFEB to get 20% off your order. :) www.daddyvans.com/
This is fantastic! I've done these and its a fun way to use the random bits that come our way. I end up saving everything and there's more leftover than I started with. LOL
Thanks for giving us a peek into your creative process! I'm going to try working "backwards" more often. I have been known to turn pages/images upside down to work with them more intuitively so my concrete brain gets more flexible. :) Thanks for a great video!!!
Hi Shannon! I create the same way as you! And I have done it in my house! I have made everything I love and worked around these things. I have my house tour from my move if you care to look! Thanks for sharing Big Bertha! Janet =D
Love that you are slapping receipts in here :) IS THAT A BASKIN ROBBINS TASTER SPOON AS A PAGE MARKER?!?! Brilliant!! Gahhhhhh I am loving Big Bertha!!
MR.VICTOR CRAFTER It is more of a collage book or a glue book. Just a place to glue in random things. At first it was very random and made no sense at all but the more stuff I add to it, the more it starts to make sense and some of the pages have even developed their own theme!
A little of both really. Like my "Use It Up Journal" it's a great place to put a lot of the paper bits and ephemera that I've collected over the years and haven't used. When it's done it will be more decorative...just a fun book to look through!
Enrica Mcintosh That would certainly work but I actually used a 5-hole long stitch. It's similar to the one I used in this video but without the template and measuring: ua-cam.com/video/lpXWmM8fwCw/v-deo.html
You could put a thought bubble by the baby and the Tanqueray bottle saying "21 years to go." Or like I used to say "When I grow up, I want to be just like my Mama, and cuss, drink, and smoke." Lofty ambitions, huh? I did reach those goals.
Oh, please don't do anything more to the Tangueray Baby page!!!! It's a great story. What a hoot! Some of my best laughs in life come from my "OOPSes". Hugs, cat
Please forgive me for asking and please know I am funky. But, I have not grasped the reason for making junk journals or big bertha. that name is bad for me because she is the reason I obey the law, lol. do not want to be roommates. So, what do you do with these journals once you make them?
Phyllis Robertson Once they're done they don't have a specific "use". They're decorative. I find that when I'm in a creative rut, flipping through some of my past journals like this is very inspiring.
Maybe, unconsciously of course, too much Tanqueray = babies, or maybe, again unconsciously, babies (crying or whining) = Tanqueray..... just some ideas..... LOL. I cracked up when the "repair" option was to ditch the baby vs the Tanqueray though! :) Debbie
Absolutely love where this book is going!! And thank you for sharing how you go about adding to Bertha......makes me feel better about how I do it!!
lynjeaful Thanks for watching Lynne!

Barb Pollitt Woo hoo!!
Where did you find such pretty napkins? Do you have any doilies, seed packets, tissue box bits, or wrapping paper in here?
This is such a fun book and I love the practice of starting with the bits you like and finding homes for them. Sonya Pickens LOL Actually I got it from a custard shop but yeah, that's what it is!
have you done a update on Big Bertha since this one?
my first viewing. Is that some kinda of paint sample book? Where in the world did you get it?
I love Big Bertha :)
ithinklikeacow Thanks, me too!
Shannon, please explain what it is? Art journal? Art book? Collage book? Or something else.
MR.VICTOR CRAFTER It is more of a collage book or a glue book. Just a place to glue in random things. At first it was very random and made no sense at all but the more stuff I add to it, the more it starts to make sense and some of the pages have even developed their own theme!
Gmmmmmmmmmmmm. It is amazing ........ And it will be purely decorative in nature or also practical?
A little of both really. Like my "Use It Up Journal" it's a great place to put a lot of the paper bits and ephemera that I've collected over the years and haven't used. When it's done it will be more decorative...just a fun book to look through!
Do i fussy cut a lot
If do it is very neat
Thanks for watching!
Big Bertha is on the move.
scobbydotwo My girl is growing up!
Hi
Am I right in thinking you are binding this with a simple three hole pamphlet stitch? In Fact, i am probably wrongx
Enrica Mcintosh That would certainly work but I actually used a 5-hole long stitch. It's similar to the one I used in this video but without the template and measuring: ua-cam.com/video/lpXWmM8fwCw/v-deo.html

Julie Jones That baby's gotta go!!
And thank you for bringing awareness to infant alcoholism, its not talked about enough lol ;)
Pink Poodle Crafts I totally agree! LOL

I'm thinkin Texas has much more interesting junk mail than we do....
Patty Kelly LOL Gee, I never knew that about us!
Shannon Green Yes. Today I got a lovely card from the Neptune Society offering me FREE pre-paid cremation.
