Big guy had some decent strikes and clearly had the power to rock Mirko. He just didn't know how to stay out of range.
Idk why he didn't play way more offensive, get underhooks and just lift and throw, kick HIM in the head or leg, he might smash right through his guard. In my pov it behooves the bigger guy to play aggressive, especially here against CRO COP. His height and reach made cro cops counter striking less effective so he could have gotten away with recklessness

It matters to a certain extent. 240 is about as big as you want to get. There is a reason weight classes exist. Super tall fighters can't defend take downs and guys over 250 are usually trash and gas out. 250 is huge. 280+ is oversized. I know guys who are 140 lbs at 5'3 who destroyed 6'7-7'1 dudes. Sorry mass monsters.
size matters because this guy is oversized. Even a welterweight would beat him. Mirko isn't even that good. An average welterweight or middleweight would destroy him. Anything over 240-265 is a disadvantage. 5'11-6'2 is perfect height

Hong Man Choi may not have been fast and fluid due to his size but he was decent trained fighter. Look at his K1 fights. Mirko is a very smart combat sports fighter and knew that a big man carrying around that might weight would be susceptible to leg attacks. Lord knows how much force that Hong Man Choi's joints take from his movement. That's why giant people often need walking support or walk awkwardly. On the one hand I am tempted to say that attacking the legs was a bit underhanded by Mirko but, on the other hand, he was fighting someone who probably was twice his weight. Bottom line to this fight... speed, precision and exploiting weakness won the day over size, strength and reach.
I've seen this one fight of his, and I can confidently say that he's a terrible fighter, with garbage training.

Mirko started diverting Hong by not focusing on his legs initially. Mirko clearly knew the weak point was Hong's leg, when the time was ripe he gave that kick to the weakest part of leg and knocked him out.

Cro cop made it look like an easy fight but it was not .He chopped him down with out getting cornered and that was the best strategy !!

You hit the nail on the head. That’s why some of the best heavyweight boxers weighed under 100kg. Tyson weighed 98kg in his prime and Deontay wilder fights at around 96kg but is considered the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time. One you reach a certain weight extra muscle mass will become a liability. It will slow you down and also cause you too lose punching power because you can’t generate the necessary speed and flexibility to hit hard.

Of course size matters, but skill is just as important. In their primes I'd have picked Semmy Schilt (who is Choi's size) over Cro Cop with confidence. When skill is equal, size usually wins.

I love Cro Cop. He's a fantastic fighter and not afraid to take anyone. Like when he smacked Bob Sapps big ass so hard he almost started crying.

From past experience with it, people with giantism have denser bones. Even for a big person, a 'tap' (or slap) from their fist/hand packs a lot more weight than you might think! Mirko seems to feel that surprise too :)

No, the guy was brought in as an attraction, see how he moves he is not in fighting long enough. He never thought he could win I believe. Mirko said he was a nice respectful character
Just something overall, but his name is Hongman and not just Hong. His name is mostly written wrong here on UA-cam. His given name should not be written as "Hong Man", either "Hong-man" or "Hongman". Hong-man Choi or Hongman Choi is the correct way.
The reason is because in the western world (even Wikipedia etc.) has adapted to do it that way to avoid confusion.

Hong Man CHOI
John Fitzgerald KENNEDY
When ppl read this they think "Man" is maybe like "Fitzgerald" a middle name, and that "Hong" is his given name.
So if you write "Hong-man" or "Hongman", nobody will think "Hong" could be his given name or "Man" is a middle name.
He himself writes his name on his Instagram page as "Hongman Choi". And even Wikipedia and todays romanizations write the name either Hong-man or Hongman. Only some UA-cam uploaders and other websites still do it wrong.

The Croatian ran the show once he figured out that his opponent was a big target with little fighting experience; his kick was perfectly timed and placed!

Braindead take. Korean fighter is skilled. Both had surgeries before the fight. Crocop already planned what to do in the fight before he got in the ring. Korean had plenty of experience. He had more than 20+ professional fights before he faced crocop.
No organization would put inexperienced fighters against top professionals, let alone against killers like Crocop or Fedor. Hong man ka definitely skilled, his size is his disadvantage.
Imagine Hong Man with real skills, would've been undefeated forever.

I always laugh when I see videos saying "Size doesn't matter." .. Why are there weight classes then? .. It would be more accurate to say "Size isn't necessarily always an insurmountable disadvantage." To assert that it "doesn't matter" is just ignorance and wishful thinking.

I mean size does matter almost all the time but when it comes to a dude with freakish size like him 9/10 times he probably doesn't have good neurological efficiency and his joints more than likely are heavily damaged just from the excessive weight.
